Panorama di PraianoThe structure of the town is that of a typical village of the Amalfi Coast, the Divine Coast: on this beautiful coastline men had to conquer their space on the steep mountains on the sea. The town of Praiano is located at the feet of Tre Pizzi
Windsurfing Courses & KAYAK Excursions and Rental in Amalfi Coast
Mountain (1120 over the sea level) and stretches out to Marina di Praia, the charming beach situated at the end of Praia Valley surrounded by high rocks, a real natural port that has always been used since the times of the ancient Plagianum (original name of Praiano). Still today it boasts a Middle Ages tower that belonged to the system of towers once built to defend Amalfi Coast from the Saracen incursions. One of the most typical features of the Amalfi Coast villages including Praiano is the presence of many stairs and the most charming places of this territory can be only reached by staircases. This is why these places are unspoiled and still preserve their most typical beauty and features, which would be otherwise exposed to mass tourism.
Capo Sottile is in between Praiano and its hamlet called Vettica Maggiore where the small bay called "della Gavitella" lies; unlike the other beaches of the Amalfi Coast and thanks to its particular position, this beach is sun-kissed from sunrise to sunset, also boasting a breathtaking view on Positano and on Capri island. You will also admire there a watch tower built during Spanish period, and a natural cove situated in a grotto called "Fontana dell'Altare" ("The Fountain of the Altar").
In Praiano there are many interesting shrines showing the inhabitants' deep faith.
To really enjoy all the beauties of the area round Praiano, your holiday here should be completed with a boat trip to the most enchanting spots of this coast reachable only by sea such as the small beaches hidden by rocks, or the suggestive sea caves called 'Africana' and 'Suppraiano'.
Among the most interesting events held in Praiano, we mention the summer event "I suoni degli dei" ("the Sounds of the Gods") proposing music concerts on the squarebefore the church of Santa Maria a Castro, which is situated on the famous trekking way called 'Path of the Gods'; and the nocturnal version of the same event, thus called "le notti di luna piena" (the nights of fullmoon), proposing night concerts performed in the moonlight, in a really charming and picturesque atmosphere. An other interesting festival is the "Festival della tradizione" (festival of traditions) rich in folk dances, tales and songs.

Lovely Hillside Villa with Ocean View in Praiano
November 22, 2015
This small two bedroom apartment with a beautiful view of the Tyrrhenian Sea had all the amenities to make our honeymoon trip to the Amalfi Coast area a pleasant and relaxing experience. This villa included private parking and a generous meal at La Tagliata Ristorante in Positano which was fantastic. There is a small grocery store just up the hill from the villa which makes stocking the kitchen a convenient event. We enjoyed relaxing breakfasts in the morning with stunning views of the blue ocean against the equally blue southern Italy sky. With the exception of a few loud motorcycles every now and then, the nights in this villa are quiet and relaxing with beautiful sunsets and moonscapes over the ocean at night. The neighboring homes have beautiful gardens that can be seen from the windows during the day and really make this spot quite pretty in the day. We were there in mid October and never ran the air conditioner or the heating system once, although those features are also available in this apartment. The terrace has fully functioning French doors that allow you to open up the villa to the fresh Ocean air while being able to adjust the breeze coming inside to your liking. All the windows have plantation shutter type coverings that permit a completely unobstructed view outside this lovely little apartment. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware and all we had to do was shop for the foods we wanted to prepare and it was like our home. The terrace has a semi-private feel to it so if you want to sunbathe there you can do so without much attention from the neighbors. The dining table is large enough for a group of six to enjoy dinner there and the small pit group sofa and entertainment center are cozy and easy to use. There was also free wi-fi and the owners supply the security code for connection which is really convenient for planning outings in the area. There are restaurants just down the hill from the apartment that are right above the water and terrific for a romantic candle lit dinner or sunlit lunch and only a brief walk to get to them. Be prepared to climb lots of stairs as this is Amalfi and that is the norm. The clock seems to turn more slowly in Praiano and relaxation is very easy to achieve while staying at Villa Dora, named after Mama Dora herself. Giuseppe and Giorgia Barba are very nice people and you will not regret staying at Villa Dora. We will definitely return for our next milestone honeymoon vacation in Italy.
Gorgia and Guiseppe's vacation apartment in Praiano is large, well-appointed, and a great value. The pictures represent it correctly. The "loft" is actually a small but completely adequate bedroom with access to a second bathroom with shower. The location is gorgeous, with a large terrace with a dining table to take advantage of the view. It is a long walk from where you park or leave a taxi down to the apartment. We used porters to get our luggage up the long, modestly ascending walk back to the parking/taxi pick up area. There is a well-stocked grocery nearby, up steep steps, with an owner who loves wine and will more than gladly advise you. The Barba's offer a complimentary meal at their amazing restaurant above Positano. We took the local Positano bus to get there, and so can you with a littler effort. Otherwise, use a taxi from Positano. The meal is as incredible as the view. Gorgia and Guiseppe are very helpful. We interacted on the phone with Guiseppe, and his English is very good. Gorgia's written English is very good, and my expectation is that her spoken English must be as well. Praiano is about half way between Positano and Amalfi. It is far less touristy. Staying in Positano or Amalfi is more convenient but significantly more expensive, especially for an apartment anywhere near as nice. Gorgia and Guiseppe provide a parking space. A car makes it easier to reach the other towns of the Amalfi Coast. The disadvantage is that you have to drive the cliff-hugging highway, narrow everywhere but especially through towns, and then you have to find a place to park. With a bit of effort one can use the buses. The SITA bus runs between all the coast towns. There is a local bus that goes around Praiano and another local bus that runs between Praiano and Positano. One must consult the schedule that the Barbas provide. You can get online from the Praiano Tourist Information Office. Altogether a delightful place for those willing who want something other than the full services of a topflight hotel.
