About the area

Agia Napa Agia Napa has been transformed from a sleepy fishing village into a lively resort that has something for all ages and contrary to popular belief, this cosmopolitan town isn't all about bars and clubs for the younger generation. If you look closely you will discover that Agia Napa is full of history and tradition, impossible for even the fussiest of visitors not to find something that would interest them. The center of the town is built around a medieval monastery. Surprisingly this has been well preserved over the centuries and a visit here is like stepping back in time. Just to the side of the main square, traditional folk dancing takes place during the summer. At the end of September Agia Napa street festival takes place with singing and dancing performed for anybody who wishes to watch. Special acts from all over the world are brought to perform at the festival. One of the most beautiful locations to visit in Agia Napa is the fishing harbour. Vast amounts have been spent on revitalizing the area. The entire harbour is pedestrianised with cafes and fish tavernas lining the area. At night beautifully designed lights light up the area, setting the scene for a romantic meal or a stroll along the harbour watching the moon float over the sea. Protaras Frequently described as the ‘jewel of the Mediterranean’ Protaras is an elite beach resort on the south east coast of Cyprus. Just 45 minute drive from Larnaca international airport. Looked over by green rolling hills and the breath-taking church of Profitis Elias that stands over 100 metres high, the small town of Protaras has a magic all of its own. Golden white sands and sparkling blue waters as calm as the morning breeze make up some of the most enchanting beaches on the island. This is where you can find rugged cliffs standing high over small bays and local fish tavernas serving fresh fish whilst you take in the spectacular views. A short drive inland will lead you to the scenic “valley of the windmills” here the blades help pump the water that irrigate this fertile land. Protaras is also the home to beautiful Fig Tree Bay, considered one of the islands best beaches. The safe, shallow, crystal clear waters are ideal for sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, snorkelling and scuba diving. The roads in Protaras are of the highest standard with large pedestrian routes at the side of most routes. The entire length of the main costal road in Protaras which spans from Paralimni via Protaras and into Agia Napa is lined with a large pedestrian route that is ideal for walkers and bikers. For those of you who prefer being closer to nature, there is a wooden path that can be followed around the coast, across rocky caves and secluded beaches where you will find small churches perched high on rocky landscapes overlooking the sea. Protaras has over 300 establishments ranging from, pubs, bars, cafes, jewellery shops, tavernas and much more. The area of Profitis Elias is the most sought after residential area of the town and once you see the views you will know why. The festival of this chapel is the 20th July, a 2 day festival is held where the road is pedestrionised and stalls and cafes are set up selling traditional Cypriot food and sweets. Wine trips Cyprus has been a vine-growing and wine-producing country for many years, making it the perfect place to tour vineyards and wineries and enjoy some diverse tastes as you go. Internationally, Cyprus is best known for Commandaria wine. Most wine production remains based on a few varieties of local grapes such as Mavro and Xynisteri although international varieties are also cultivated. Although, chronologically, Cyprus belongs to the old world of wine producing countries, the industry has gone through changes that place it more on par with the new world. You can enjoy the best Cyprus wines by touring the vineyards and wineries. A warm welcome will await you – and some sensational wines too. Cooperative wineries of the region, operating within an internationally accepted and protected zone, are well worth a visit. Bus tours Discover the real Cyprus away from the beaches and resorts. On a double decker bus tour you will be above the crowds allowing great views of the places of interest. In addition to the great photo opportunities, the tours will also reveal the best places to re-visit should you intent to hire a car later on which would give you the way to explore the area. Simply choose a tour that interests you and book. Probably the most famous boat trip is the Black Pearl which can be found at Agia Napa harbour. The Black Pearl Pirate Boat Agia Napa is the Biggest Pirate Boat ever to plunder the Mediterranean Sea. The trip is a Family Orientated Cruise, which is fun for all ages, No matter what age you are you are guaranteed a lot of laughs and memories to cherish by stepping back into the past, where pirates ruled the high seas. Fishing for: Tuna, King Fish, Barracuda, Hunter, Spanish mackerel, Red Snapper, White Snapper, White Mullet, Grey Mullet, Mouse Fish, Pig Fish, Flat Fish and more.... Golf Golf is somewhat new to the island of Cyprus. The Cyprus Golf Federation was established in 2000 and its main aim was to encourage and control golf on the island. The number of golf courses has more than doubled since the introduction of the CGF and with lots of exciting plans afoot, it’s an exciting time for golf in Cyprus. As it’s relatively new to the golfing world there are only seven golf courses in Cyprus; one in the north and six in the south. However whatever it lacks in quantity is certainly made up for by the sheer quality and diversity of the courses. Diving Cyprus has something for everyone. The local diving conditions are excellent with visibility up to 40 meters in warm blue seas. Marine life is profuse with up to 200 species of fish gather in the waters around Cyprus. The diving is varied, we have one of the most famous wrecks in the world, the 200 meter ferry Zenobia, and abundance of smaller wrecks scatter the coastline, as well as excellent reefs and drop off's. Snorkeling The warm climate of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus attracts visitors seeking fun in the sun year-round. Beaches range from quiet, secluded locations to crowded party scenes, all of which offer opportunities for those who wish to explore the ocean by snorkeling. Snorkeling in Cyprus can be great fun, if you know where to go. In the summer months the sea is very warm and usually very clear. On the east coast of Cyprus near Protaras and Agia Napa two recommended places are, Konnos Bay and from the beach near Agia Anagiri church. Also the reefs at Cavo Greco. Jeep Safari Troodos Jeep Safari is a definite must during your holiday in Cyprus. Visit the green heart of the island, "the Troodos Mountains" where time has stood still and long standing local traditions are still practiced. During the Troodos jeep safari you will meet the locals, visit forgotten villages, gaze upon breath-taking views from the summit of mount Olympus and feast upon scrumptious local delicacies. Walking Cyprus is excellent for enjoying some walks whilst on holiday - with quite often the opportunity to visit and enjoy some of the great beaches during the walks. Whilst out walking we advise having a decent hat, good walking boots as well as plenty of water with you. Walking in Cyprus is a delight. Historic villages and breath-taking coastal views add to the serenity of the climate and wonderfully clear air. Cycling With its all year round warm weather conditions and numerous possibilities for both Mountain biking and Road Biking. You can choose whether you want serious sports training or more recreational cycling, just taking in the breath-taking views around the Island. Experience the island’s culture, history and wonderful scenery from the saddle of a bike. A cycle tour enables you to come across things which you would probably miss from inside a car. A chance encounter with a local, a stunning landscape to linger over, the sights and sounds of nature from up close, an ancient ruin or a secluded cove. Follow one of the many cycling routes or even make your own. Set the pace you desire whether training or leisure and fill your lungs with fresh air while making your bit to fight global warming and protect the environment. Horse riding If you want to get the kids into horses and riding then this is ideal. Ride through sprawling acres of untouched terrain with an experienced instructor. Ride in some of the best countryside in Cyprus, as yet unspoilt by the encroachment of tourism. Cantering along sandy beaches and trekking into the hills. If it appeals to you then give it a try.
