Dirty Villa Esencia

September 6, 2011

After reading the reviews & communicating with Ritama. We booked Villa Esencia for a 7 night stay (08/27 to 09/03). We were a little skeptical since Hurricane Irene has just passed through TCI but were informed by Ritama that her Villa was spared any damages. We vacationed on TCI in 2010 so we were familiar with TCI. We arrived on 08/27 (Couple w/ 3 children under 6 & my mother), we met Ritama who was very nice at first but the 1st sign of trouble came while she was showing us the unit she proceeded on telling us that we should remove her Donna Karan bed cover since we had children with us. I was speechless! We've been on diff. islands & always stayed at nice resorts/Villas with the kids & have never been told such nonsense before. We are of the understanding that "If we damage it then we must pay for it", never had issues before. Mind you, that was probably the cheapest place we've ever rented, we were reluctant to book something more expensive because we were not sure of the damages Hurricane Irene might have had done & being from NJ, we didn't know if our flight was going to be canceled on 08/27 because Irene was about to hit the Northeast as well. On the surface, the unit looked decent although we were surprised that it wasn't made clear to us that it was a basement unit & also a big dog on property. After Ritama left, we started to closely look at the place & needless to stay we knew then that we had to find a new place to stay. There was no way we were going to stay in that dump. I'm not sure what the expectations of the previous reviewers were but that place was filthy and disgusting, the bathrooms & the kitchen were dirty. It was so bad that after spending a day travelling we decided to wipe ourselves & the kids down with damp towels because we were afraid of stepping into the showers. The car provided was as filthy as the house, we were afraid that the kids may catch something if they touch the car & then put their fingers in their mouths. The next morning, we went out & rented a "clean" car with Grace Bay Car Rentals. We also found ourselves a nice clean villa on Taylor Bay through Dinesh from Islandescapestci, we paid more but had the peace of mind that our children wouldn't catch anything from a filthy unit. We told Ritama that we needed more space so we got most of our $ back w/ NP. I have no reason to lie, check the pictures that I posted on Trip Advisor. I'm still speechless that they are renting that dump to people. Sandra
