I Didn't Want to Leave...

Hale Ama is indeed Paradise ..... a happy welcome to feeling calm and centered, this tranquil gorgeous home was like easing into a warm bath. Every room is beautifully and comfortably appointed, the floor plan is thoughtfully designed to accommodate large or small groups , with many indoor and outdoor "nooks" for private escapes . The entire home is one with the magnificent ocean and nature's surroundings. Just a few of the many things that stood out for me: Hale Ama's serene ocean views combined with its constant breezes and fresh salty air are a huge part of this home experience; the peaceful quiet bedrooms and their very comfortable beds/mattresses - all have attached modern bathrooms , screened windows if you choose to sleep with the ocean breeze , ceiling fans galore, a fabulous cooks' kitchen with a large counter/bar, an incredible outdoor grill....the surrounding outside deck with its comfy loungers and the charming picnic table -- our favorite place to dine morning, noon and night ) the kayaks , bikes and other beach toys provided us with many a memorable experience.... snorkeling side by side with the patient wise old sea turtles that arrived like clockwork daily just beyond our deck on "our" beach to take in their morning nap in the sun ...biking 10-15 minutes to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world , paddling the blue ocean with friends, the delicious morning smoothies and afternoon margaritas compliments of our own giving mango tree, a relaxing massage outdoors - next to the ocean ! in a private corner of the deck, and especially meeting the kind and always helpful caretaker and his wife along with the many new lovely local friends .... the Puako General Store, the Waimea fish market : "Hale l'a Da Fish House" , and oh my , the shaved ice!!! , dancing in the moonlight on the roof top of the Blue Dragon , lunches at Cafe Pesto ....and most of all , the spectacular sunrises and sunsets with best friends on the deck of Hale Ama . This vacation home and location are the absolute perfect environment for a truly fun, inspiring and rejuvenating get-away... Hale Ama and Puako are remarkable and I didn't want to leave...I highly recommend ! Thanks for the sweet memories !

I’d been to Kauai many times,…the lush dramatic jungle isle of the Hawaiian chain. I didn’t know what to expect coming to the Big island, just hoping our booking would be all that it seemed from ‘the Pictures’ and list of things that sounded pretty awesome. Wanting a new Hawaiian adventure, we went for it. After a convenient stop at COSTCO right there by the Kona airport (super convenient!) we were on our way to Hale Ama along the straight lava flanked road a coté de la mer. We were definitely on an island of molten history. You could FeeL it. In 1/2 hour or so we drove off the main highway to Puako. the view gorgeous as we circled in closer and closer to the ocean, our rented home to be. We pull into driveway, begin the unloading. Upon opening the front door the view and the tradewinds had us all dropping our ‘loads’ and going straight to the large inviting deck at the ocean’s edge. pretty much jaw dropping. i suggest arriving in the afternoon if you can! the caretaker has things open for your arrival. I’ll Try make this short! This house is built with great love and attention to detail. The choices of wood, mostly from the island, are gorgeous. the choices of artists…depicting native JoY, carved hieroglyphs in unexpected places, every dish, cooking utensils, knives, wine glasses, platters you’d need, and more. even spices! a ’temporary' home in every sense. Look forward turtle love in your front yard! You are in Hono Bay, so will see many…often greeting you in your front yard :-) and we saw the sprays of migrating whales when we were there. The reef out front of the house is full of colorful fish,…in a calm protected area safe for children too, and us older folk. Do bring water shoes, as you will need then to take walks on the lava. You can get them easily there or wherever you are coming from. got mine at CVS! Home is close to fun restaurants, markets, And farmer’s markets, and galleries…. lots of hiking and seafaring opportunities of course! Yet the beauty for me, was that you are off the main drag of hotels and lots of folks vying for a place to sit or take in this paradise. call me selfish,…but sharing this with your loved ones is something you won’t forget. At Hale Ama there is one surprise after another. Just GO !!! ohhhhhh yeahhhhh. Unbelievable. this renter throws in an amazing masseuse gift. there at the house,...on the deck. And she’s excellent,... you will want her bac

SOULFUL JOURNEY

This amazing place is now firmly implanted into my soul. Having stayed at this wonderfully appointed home in the most gorgeous location has forever changed my vision of the perfect vacation. Just walking in through the front entry took my breath away. You see the expansive views immediately and once you recover from this sight, you see the most inviting home ever imagined. I just stood still and couldn't move taking it all in. Deep luscious wood floors, an outrageous long mango dining table, state of the art gourmet kitchen, lovely comfortable living room with bookshelves that expand the side wall with art and literature are your first few steps inside. As if in a dream, I just wanted to reach out and touch everything to see if it was for real! Once I realized it was, I stepped out onto the front porch that had the most uniquely thought out table that just said 'sit down and be at peace'. Looking out over the ocean, I could see forever. At this point, I began to breathe - calmly and peacefully. Once I realized there was more to see and that my bags were still at the front door, I ventured back inside to discover the rest of the home. I wandered down a hallway that revealed a huge media room with a large screen for viewing and the seating comfortably arranged. Off to the other side of the main floor was a sweet bedroom/ bath with it's on private entry. There is also a extra pantry and washer and dryer area smartly and privately placed on the first floor. As I continued to my 'look see' of the house, I headed up the stairway that led to an office area and two gigantic bedrooms. The master bedroom had a ocean front deck and comfy loungers. Possibly the most unbelievable view was from the master bath shower area. Wall to wall open windows, I never wanted to get out of the shower for staring out over the ocean! Having the most wonderful opportunity to travel with four special girlfriends, we all decided to hit 'the pause button' in our daily hectic lives and make this trip happen. The journey of discovery Puako offered was an experience that will be everlasting. Swimming in the pristine white sandy dream coves, snorkeling, kayaking and watching the sea turtles journey up on the beach daily in front of the home was amazing to witness. Our ritual was watching the breath taking sunsets every eventing. Truly a gift:)

What a vacation!

From the moment we landed in Kona, it felt like this was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime vacation…and that is exactly what it was…the Hale Ama Puako was perfect. This spectacular ocean front home has it all…views, privacy, location, serenity…with every comfort you need and more. When you walk through the front door, not just the first time, but every time, it looks like a scene from a living painting. This view transcends through the living room out into the ocean as if you are seeing one continuous space. At the end of each day, this same view has the most indescribably beautiful sunsets illuminating every room…I will never forget these moments or this home. The living room opens up to the Lanai for everyone to be together where we relished our morning coffee, meals and laughter…yet with separate spaces, and great lounging furniture, to curl up with a good book…or take a nap…while the cross winds create a no stress zone. There is not an amenity that has been overlooked…the kitchen, the outdoor kitchen, the media room, bathrooms, spacious and comfortable bedrooms...and the master bathroom…straight from a Hollywood movie set…the ocean outdoors…indoors. 10 stars Hale Ama Puako for a week that is now etched in my heart. The memories created with friends that I cherish from so much this home has to offer…bike riding, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, ocean-side hikes…close to everything…white sand beaches, crystal blue water, sea turtles by the dozens, island shaved ice, a fresh fish market second to none, restaurants, shopping, dancing…and the most delicious smoothies ever…made from the front yard mango tree…we did it all!! A special thanks to the Hale Ama Puako caretakers…they made sure we had a great time and had everything we needed for a wonderful vacation…forever grateful!! Mahalo!!

This was the second time that my wife and I vacationed in this beautiful house on the beach. The house is beautifully appointed and very comfortable, with magnificent use of Hawaiian native woods throughout. However, what really sets it apart is the beautiful beach and natural lagoon that the house opens on to. The sheltered water provided a unique opportunity for snorkeling with giant green sea turtles and other tropical fish. The sea turtles are not shy and swimming alongside these magnificent animals is a rare experience. Although the Hawaiian Big Island is the largest of the Hawaiian islands it has one of the lowest population densities and trips to the various sightseeing sights were never crowded with tourists. However, the setting is so idyllic that we found ourselves mostly walking, cycling and kayaking close to this beautiful home. Something we were not aware of on our first stay, which was later in the year, is that Puako Beach has its own micro climate and when there was rain in other parts of the island Puako Beach remained sunny!

This house has it all! The views are breathtaking from every room in the house. I especially loved the master bathroom with the beautiful view out the window.. We enjoyed snorkeling with the turtles every morning right in from of the house and the bike rides to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The house is spacious, beautifully decorated and so cozy. We enjoyed the Hale Ama so much that we simply did not want to leave to go anywhere. Fresh mangoes everyday off the tree made for outstanding smoothies The kitchen is ready for anything and a grill that is fantastic. Geographically it's perfect. 30 minutes from Kona airport and other attractions nearby. Puako is a special little place that is uncrowded and a sweet little street with wonderful people just ready to say "Aloha"..... We loved it so much and look forward to a return trip one day....

Magical Oceanfront Home

We had such a fantastic stay! The house was spotless and had all the amenities you could ask for, and more that weren't even listed - a free massage, gift certificate to the general store, etc. The housing managers, Peter and Holly, took care of the internet issues (due to a big storm the first night) quickly and were flexible about our checkout time. We took some of their suggestions on restaurants and local music and had a great time.

The snorkeling in front of the house is incredible - tons of sea turtles, fish of all kinds, urchins and coral. Our other favorite activities included horseback riding through the Valley of the Kings, attending the Waimea Ocean Film Festival, and sampling fish tacos from everywhere possible. We can't wait to come back for another visit!

Amazing trip!!

We came to Hale Ama with my entire family to celebrate my mother's 75th birthday. Everything about the property and our trip was perfect. The house is beautiful, perfectly maintained, and is very comfortable for a large family. The location is ideal, on the water and very close to great beaches and activities. Finally, the owners treated us like friends, making sure we were comfortable, offering suggestions on how to get the most out of our trip, and responding immediately to the smallest of requests. We will definitely be returning. Thank you for such a wonderful trip.

Absolutely Exquisite

We had the good fortune to stay 10 days in this wonderful oceanfront home. We thought we were in heaven! Everything about this home captures the essence of artistic and natural beauty. At every glance we see magnificent ocean whether sitting on the expansive veranda or the gorgeous dining solid wooden table. The architectural detail frames the ocean in every view and the human artistic beauty is everywhere including wood flooring, stairs, hand rails and cabinets. The granite surfaces are simply beautiful with colorful inlaid Hawaiian figures and forms. The multiple silent overhead fans help to enhance the ocean breeze and provide cooling and freshness to the atmosphere. The sound of the ocean reminds us of its presence just steps away. The huge opening glass windows allow merging of the beauty of nature and home. You are instantly drawn to the ocean. The humpback whales are numerous and so close we would often hear their thunderous splash while we sat on the veranda. Turtles are everywhere. Huge tide pools directly out front provide me extra enjoyment fly fishing. I have caught fish in the pools for the past 4 years (catch and release with barbless hook) It is fun watching the local men fishing with nets.

This home is without a doubt something we consider very special. Puako is a special place that is uncrowded and provides privacy and unparalleled beauty.
We hope to return.

Stunning beachfront home

We spent two delightful weeks in this home. The Pacific Ocean is literally in your backyard. You can wade just a short distance in and be within an arm's length of several Hawaiian sea turtles, not to mention coral formations that attract beautiful reef fish, and (once or twice) even a Manta Ray. The house itself is spacious, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. The kitchen is highly functional, and there are ample seating areas for dining or lounging around.
The primary problem is convincing yourself that you might want to leave the house and actually see the rest of the island. Once we managed that, we found Puako Beach to be well-located for visiting just about every site on the Big Island.
On top of all that, the owner and property managers are efficient, extraordinarily helpful, professional, and very pleasant to deal with.

We LOVED it!!

We had a marvelous time in our vacation on the Big Island, and a great part of it was the beautiful house where we stayed. It is very modern, clean and beautiful. The internet speed was excellent. The rooms are large; the living room has a very high ceiling (we love high ceilings :) The view is incredible, and the nano-windows allow you to enjoy it to the maximum. We spotted turtles a few times, and once I saw a whale blowing, very exciting!

Geographically it is also well located; it is on the west coast, which I think is the most convenient one, and not too far from attractions in the North and the attractions in the South of the island.

We hope to travel back, and if we do, we would love to stay here again.
