Description from owner

Welcome to the amazing Sunset Beach House!

Enjoy the most spectacular natural beauty Michigan has to offer at this delightful 6-bedroom, 3-bath lakefront cottage situated on Upper Scott Lake, just 2.5 hours from Chicago and 3 hours from Detroit. Just a short drive away you will find the beautiful Lake Michigan coastal communities of South Haven, Saugatuck, and Holland. Explore the many sparkling sandy beaches, amazing dunes, and breathtaking lake views to be found on America's "Third Coast".

This extensively-renovated home is attractively decorated and is perfect for either families with children or a group of friends rekindling their friendship - all in a perfect country and lake setting. Our home consists of like-new ranch-style construction, completed as of July 2012, which has no stairs inside. The home sleeps 14 max guests (12 max adults), which includes children of all ages.

The great room offers entertainment and dining options including island seating, dining table, or small intimate table that can also be used for card and board games or scrap-booking. The comfortable leather couches are a perfect seating area to watch movies. The kitchen is well-equipped and even has a mini-refrigerator for kids to stock with their own snacks and drinks. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated, comfortable, and inviting. The screened porch is a great play area for kids or a sitting area for reading; it's also great for just looking at the trees while sitting in a rocking chair or on our comfortable rattan furniture.

The beach features the best hard-sand bottom on the lake and is excellent for swimming. And, our swimming area is especially great for kids because the lake here gets deep slowly--knee-deep for 20 to 30 feet out. The canoe is a fun way to explore the lake. If you have a boat and want to use the private dock, there is always someone you can call to help you for a small fee. Kayaks are available by reservation for rental by the day or week, for a small fee per kayak. The sunsets can be spectacular on the lake. A deck with tables for outdoor dining is a perfect place to enjoy a great view of the lake. A roaring fire pit is an excellent place to end the day, while telling ghost stories and roasting marshmallows for s'mores.

6-Bedroom Breakdown: 2 rooms with king beds (one with en suite full bathroom), 2 rooms with queen beds, 1 room with a full bed, 1 kid's room with 4 twin beds (2 bunked sets).

“Perfect family vacation home”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2017

This home had everything you could possibly want for your vacation. It was as if the owners spent a week there and purchased any and everything they needed or wanted for their comfort. We stayed with our two married children and three grandchildren. Everyone had their own room. The kitchen was beautiful, well stocked and had excellent appliances. The family rooms were roomy, light, and perfect for us. The little ones loved the small beach with shallow water. When we first arrived, I thought the price was a little high for the location (8 miles off the highway), but we all really enjoyed ourselves and the surrounding communities of Holland, Saugatuck, and South Haven.

Owner's reply: We are so pleased to know that you and your family were comfortable in our home, and that you enjoyed your vacation!

This house is the best for large groups! We loved the dock, the canoe, the fishing, the fire pit... It was truly the best way to start the summer. We will definitely be renting this home out again next year. What a lovely location on a breathtaking lake with such amazing people.

Owner's reply: We love hearing from our renters and we are so pleased to know that we helped start our your summer on a really positive note! Please be sure to book early if you want your pick of peak summer dates.

Your home was even better than we expected! We had a large group - both adults and kids - and it was more than accommodating! The home is beautifully decorated and immpeccably clean! Everything we needed was provided and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! workong with the owner was seamless; she answered all of our emails immediately and the property management person was equally as attentive when we encountered issues with the dishwasher. I would definitely recommend this home to our travelers! Thanks!

I rented this property by myself...yes by myself to get away after experiencing some emotional trauma early this year. The staff was amazingly supportive of my wishes, and encouraging. This place was everything that was advertised and much more. Everything was provided. So much space. I had a question while I was there and the housekeeper responded right away. It could have been because I was there for Christmas, but it was amazingly quiet and peaceful. Comfortable. The view of the (frozen) lake was divine. The home was beautiful and charming. I spent a lot of time in Pullman as a kid, and the town has a certain aura that hasn't changed, and Sunset Beach captured that feel for me precisely. My only issue was that the wifi didn't work on my devices, but it wasn't a big deal for me, so I didn't bother anyone about it. But that is something that may need fine tuning. Other than that, everything was amazing. I can't say when, but I will definitely try and rent again. Thanks so much for providing me the space I needed to assist in the healing process.

“Beautiful lake views”

The house was very beautiful and situated on a lovely lake. We rented it for a long "girls' weekend" and were very pleased with house. The decor was a great blend of old and new. It is located close to several charming towns where there are lots of things to do. We will most likely plan to rent it again next year!

Owner's reply: We are so pleased to know that you and "the girls" had a pleasant stay in our home, Joyce!

“Better than I imagined”

First of Elizabeth was such a pro and made booking so easy and never hesitated answering what seemed like a zillion quesions. Directions were perfect-- My first impression was the yard, wow, beautiful landscaping, well maintained. Walked in to home and another wow--clean, spacious and inviting. There were 11 in our party and it never felt like we were on top of each other--there is plenty of room to be alone or be with everyone. Highlights were playing pool. ping pong, canoeing and of course that great firepit. If I had to, had to say something that I didn't like it would be a small skillet where my eggs didn't stick, but hey, maybe it was my cooking skills for that day. You can tell pride in ownership and I for one (my family seconded) cannot wait to return. That wonderful secluded, yet everything at your fingertips feeling was AWESOME!!! Thanks for making this trip a memory for the books and so easy to plan. I consider myself lucky! If you are contemplating staying here don't think twice but stay away from my week :)

Owner's reply: NOTE: THIS RENTER ACTUALLY STAYED IN OUR UPPER SCOTT LAKE RETREAT (LISTING ID 21933) We just love hearing that you enjoyed your stay, Yolanda! We will be sure to stock the house with a better egg-cooking pan in your honor :)

“Wonderful place to vacation.”

This vacation was truly the best time I've had in a long time. Our friends and family had such a good time playing game, enjoying the water sports, bonfires every evening, and pool table tournaments every evening. The large spacious Lakehouse provided plenty of room for everyone. Our group what's more than impressed with this house, and plan to return next year.

Owner's reply: Please note that this review is actually for our listing ID 195385 (Sunset Shores Lake House)!

“Family Vacation”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2016

Our family enjoyed the spacious house with the lake view. We were able to prepare food in the fully stocked kitchen. We all enjoyed the lake with the kayaking, fishing, and swimming. The kids went swimming every chance they could get. The deck was nice for relaxing, grilling, and eating. Also, the screened in porch was great for reading and quiet times. This is our second time vacationing at this house. Once in the winter and this time in July. We had 11 in our group and we all had plenty of room. Great place to spend with children and grandchildren.

We just wanted to let you know that our 4 generation family vacation at your rental was great! We hated to leave to come home today. The weather was perfect, water warm, and the fish were biting! Thank you for allowing us to rent from you!

Our children enjoyed Sunset Beach very much. It fulfilled our needs, the sunsets were beautiful and the home clean. Thank you so much. ~ Anonymous Renters from July 18-25, 2015

Hello Elizabeth -

I just wanted to say thank you for everything!! We had an amazing stay at Sunset Beach and could not have been happier. The house is amazing and the lake was beautiful. Our family made some great memories these past few days! (I did not have a chance to write in the book at the house so I wanted to pass on our compliments via email)

Also, we left some rafts and inner tubes for the next guests to enjoy.

Thank you again for everything and I am sure you will hear from us again next year :)

Jenny Hamilton (June 25-29, 2015)

We had a great time. Weather was great. The house was in great condition. The mornings were so peaceful looking out at the lake and watching the swans go by. Looking forward to coming back.

I had an amazing, relaxing time at Sunset Beach. I rented the home out by myself during Christmas to help myself heal from trauma I experienced during the year. The home and the view was beautiful, and everything that I needed was already there. I wanted for nothing. Everyone I worked with to book the rental was great and encouraging. The housekeeper was immediately responsive when I had a question. Being in Pullman again (I spent a lot of time there as a child) was exactly what I needed to help the healing process along. My only issue was not getting the Wifi to work...I didn't bother the housekeeper because it wasn't a big deal. I will definitely book again in the future.
