Great for a family

July 16, 2010

We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children who stayed at this apartment for 1 week while visiting New York City at the end of June 2010. It was very clean and spacious and Winston, the owner, very helpful and on hand for any issues (we had none) or general information. Despite the heat this year, the property has air con in the bedrooms making it very comfortable. The location was ideal for visitng the city and yet being in a residential area was nice and quiet at night time. When visiting the city take the express A train - makes less stops -about 25 mins to 42nd street/Times Square) The apartment was very well equipped and perfect for a family on a budget who might want to do some self catering. Otherwise, there were a few restuarants nearby as mentioned in the owners description. Would highly recommend it.

We were a party of 6 (2 adults & 4 boys)who stayed at Winston's apartment for a week at the start of our holiday and again for 1 night before returning to South Africa: that last night was like coming home to a safe haven after 3 weeks in Orlando and the Bahamas! This apartment in Queens is very reasonably priced, situated in a safe neigbourhood and just a short walk from the nearest subway station, which by the way takes you directly past Central Park, via downtown, to the north of Manhattan (A line). The apartment is outside the chaos of the big city and it offers a suburban insight one rarely experiences at large inner city establsihments. A memorable experience indeed! The apartment is small - not a good option if you are planning to stay at home all day - but brilliant as a springboard to discover NY and have a safe place to crash at night. Despite it's size, it's well laid out and can accommodate 6 people on 3 proper double beds (thus, no backbreaking thin mattress sleeper couches!). It has al the amenities you would expect from a self catering apartment (all fully functiona) and is well stocked. The place is exceptionally clean and occupant friendly. Best thing about this department though is the host and his family. I've had the fortune to travel the world and nowhere have I been met with such a positive attitude, courtesy and willingness to help as experienced here. Thanks, Winston. You and your family palyed a major role in a great holiday!!

WHAT A FIND IN A BIG CITY!!

June 24, 2010

I spent many many hours searching online for somewhere to stay in NY and had almost got to the point where we thought we would have to spend vast amounts of money to stay in a small box! I then found Winstons apartment. We were slightly anxious about booking only because of scam stories you hear but trust me this is the place to stay. Winston is lovely and so is his apartment. I stayed there with my husband, daughter and 2 year old granddaughter. We had lots of space and everything is spotless. Lots of lovely towels, bedding and comfort. It is about a 10 minute walk max to the A train which gets you into Manhatten within 20 minutes. We felt safe at night although I don't think I would walk around very late at night. Only because of having a young child with us. This is not just Queens but all of New York city. It is a big city and like all cities common sense prevails. There is a bar called 0'BRIENS just under the train station as you get off coming back which has real NY characters in it. We sat there for a couple of hours chatting to locals and felt perfectly safe. I recommend Winstons apartment definitely!!!!!

I spent about seven weeks trawling the Internet for an apartment close to my in-laws in Queens, New York. I came across Mr Winston Bain's apartment on vacationhomerentals Website and immediately noted he had very good reviews. However, as a first-timer, I was a bit concerned about parting with my money as I heard that some apartments deals were actually scams. On meeting Mr Winston Bain I was struck by his manner and openness...especially as he made himself available to us 24/7. Top guy ! My family consist of two very active boys ages 4 and 16 plus my wife. We really loved his apartment and stayed here from 29th DEC to 7th Jan 2010. It is conveniently close to everything - 4 mins walk to the subway station 88th St & Liberty Ave - take the "A" train which goes express (25mins) into Manhattan, a big supermarket and 3 minutes away you will find "Boston Market" Restaurant 83-02 Atlantic Ave Ozone Park NY 11416 - does a mean cornbread..really fresh ! As it was snowing outside - we made good use of the flat screen TV'S in both rooms with a cable link to 2000+ channels...for TV lovers! All in all, Mr Winston Bain made our holiday a truly pleasant experience.

Well, what can I say that previous reviews haven't already said...nothing really. Winston greeted us with a warm and friendly welcome which was the start of a very comfortable stay at this well kept apt. My daughter also says that it was great to have her own space when she wanted it, not so if we had booked a hotel room in Manhatten. This trip was her 21st birthday gift from Mum (me) and Dad (who couldn't make the trip due to work commitments). We had no problems at all, either with the subway ($25 for 7 day metrocard, well worth it, even used this on Staten Island for a bus ride to Historic RichmondTown) and didn't feel uncomfortable when walking around the neighbourhood. It is a lovely time of year to visit NY as everywhere was starting to get in the Christmas spirit, decoration of houses, shops, etc. I would definately recommend this apt to my family and friends for a stay in NY.

We stayed at Winston Property for 4 days in September, from the start of the process, i.e booking, arriving,duration&leaving-Winston was always there to help. We had his mobile number and any problems we could phone him up, even organising rides to and from the airport. The house is in walking distance of the house&there is a supermarket just round the corner. We had no hassles while we were there. It was really an awesome experience and gave us a good feel of New York. Thanks to Winston who got our tour of the US off to a great start! Thanks again from all the South Africans

I've spent 5 day's in Winston's property. It was very well described in advertisment and I got what I was expecting. Interior is quite simple, but one can find everything that might be usefull during short stay in NY: very well equiped kitchen, clean bathroom, nice bedrooms. This apartment is very clean and makes a familiar atmosphere, because owner lives on the ground floor and helps if necessary. The only disadvantage is third room, that is quite small. We were travelling in 5 pax and our collegue who lived in this little room did not feel very comfortable. Payment was quick nad without any troubles, Winston delivered also for us a transportation to and from the airport. He is a nice man and I can recommend him and his flat.

We had the best time possible in NYC made that much better staying in Winstons Apartment in Queens. Close to manhattan by subway but far enough to get a great feel of the city we had no problems with this accommodation at all. Winston was very helpful answering all our questions before we even asked them. The Apartment is well set up with a family in mind. We travelled (with 3 children) through many cities on this trip and this was the best apartment we found. We are reccomending this place to all our friends and can't wait to go back. Thanks Winston.

We spent our (one week) holiday with our three children (21,20 and 18) and liked the aprtment very much. It takes only 10 min. from JFK and Manhatten is easy to be reached by subway; it takes about 30 min (10 min walk and 20 by subway). The apartment had all the facilities we needed: kitchen, bathroom and a comfortable place to stay after a long day of hard sightseeing in the city. There are several shops nearby (only 5 min. by foot) and another big advantage is the price: you won't find a place like this for this price in Manhattan! Overall: we had a wonderful stay and will definitely recommend this place to others.

My stay in NY would not have been so perfect if i had not found this wonderful apartment. It is conveniently situated arnd 30 mins from NY city centre (via subway), 5 mins walk to the subway station, adjacent a grocery store and a beautiful park just around the block. The apartment is very clean on the second floor of a 2-storey house. It is fully equipped with everything you need including clean towers, kitchen tools. It even has cable tv with 2000+ channels to choose from! This first visit to NY from Hong Kong was very worthwhile and this apartment made everything perfect! I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends who plan to visit the city.

Last time in New York we stayed in a Manhattan hotel and did all the main Manhattan sights. This time we wanted to taste the other side of New York -- Queens, Brooklyn and further afield. Winston's first floor apartment -- clean and well-equipped -- was ideal for two adults and a teenager. TVs in both bedrooms plus a kitchen and a "compact" living/dining room. It is a cosmopolitan neighbourhood with never a hint of trouble or unpleasantness when we came back late at night. Two subway stations are within 10 minutes walk (about 30 minutes to central Manhattan)-- a big supermarket and a brilliant buffet restaurant are 3 minutes away. Weekly tickets for subway and buses are great value at 21 dollars. Winston was a great host, unobtrusive but always on hand. I have to admit that we were warned before going that some advertised apartment deals around New York are a scam so we were a little wary. But this is the real deal for those who want to stay somewhere out of the ordinary.

I'm so glad that I found this apartment when I was looking for a place for my family to stay during our visit to NYC. It was large enough for my two teenage sons who like to spread out and they loved the TV in their room! The whirlpool bath saved my legs after we had walked all day. And the towels were the best we've ever had away from home. It is very convenient to the subway which we used a lot. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. There's a laundry about 3 or 4 blocks away that we used twice, several food choices, and a grocery store. And the rental price was fantastic! We definitely recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to NYC.

Hi Winston! It was our first trip to NY and we found this apartment as a very good alternative to the hotels in Manhattan (much more space and a lower price). The standard is good and with two nice bedrooms and a great bathroom the four of us (my wife and two teenage-girls) had nothing to complain about. The distance to Manhattan is just 20 min. with the subway (Metro-card 7 days=25 dollar). We would love to come back another time.

We had a fantastic stay at this property in Queens, New York. The apartment was excellent for us and our three children aged 7, 9 and 11. The Subway station is about a 10 minute walk along interesting tree lined streets and Manhattan is about 20 minutes away. Staying in the Queens neighborhood showed us a real, traditional New York suburb and we spent some evenings watching the local lads and girls play basketball and racquets in the park, which also has a great play area. Winston could not have been more helpful with maps, directions and general advice. The apartment is a good size so we were able to spread out and when we apologized to Winston for the noise the children were making his response was that it was a happy noise so it was good to hear.

Apartment is close by the subway, a huge grocery, food court, rent a car service etc. Area is safe to walk also at midnight.

For the 3 of us, who went on holiday to 4 different cities and stayed in 4 different accommodations, we all agreed that this apartment was definitely the best we stayed in. 2 big bedrooms, kitchens with everything included, a bathroom with toilet and bath, which includes a whirlpool. We sure used that one a couple of times. Supermarket, pharmacy, laundry, restaurants, etc are all very nearby. So is the subway who takes you directly to Manhatten. Neighbourhood is quiet and very safe. We're all students, which means that we had to keep costs very low, especially when you're travelling to 3 other big cities. My friends were surprised that we got such a great apartment for a cheap price. Especially when you're in New York, because we have been looking for accommodations in New York, but everything is so expensive. It was our first time in New York and we had such a great time in here. We all will definitely come back to New York and stay again in this apartment.

I've been to New York several times and stayed in lots of different hotels, but this was by far the best experience. The apartment was very nice and very clean. There was more than enough space in the apartment for me and my two friends. It was great to be able to get up and cook a nice breakfast before taking the subway into the city. We came home very late a couple of times, but felt secure in the unfamiliar area. Although the subway ride was a little long coming from the city, it was well worth the comfort and the price of the apartment. With a grocery store right around the corner and only a five minute walk to the subway, I would recommend staying at this location to anyone who wants to experience what living in New York City is really like. We had a great time and can't wait to come back and do it all over again. Thank you for making our trip memorable!

The apartment is cute from the street and very nicely decorated inside. It has brand new appliances and a luxury bath. The bedrooms both have cable and comfortable beds. Paloma was very friendly and kindly met us when we arrived very late at night. She showed us how to operate the various appliances and TVs. Paloma also left us a map and directions to local restaurants, shops and other facilities. The apartment is conveniently located in Queens near to JFK (but you can't hear the planes, so don't worry). It is close to several subway stations (within 10 minute walk). If you are from London it's like staying in a flat in Hammersmith and Fulham, where you get the benefit of more space than a central London hotel, but still near to the underground and closer to Heathrow airport (which is handy if you have an early flight). I highly recommend the apartment and intend to stay again in the future.

I just can't say enough about my stay at this apartment!! My friend and I had stayed at two other apts in Manhattan and this was our last place, we definitely saved the best for last!! Winston was such a wonderful host and help to us, and the apt had every amenity you could possibly need when staying away from home!! The jacuzzi was awesome, especially after coming home from a day of walking around all day! My advice is to stay in Queens and take the subway into Manhattan, you won't regret it! The subway makes it easy to get into the city quickly and trust me, you will like this apt much more than any apt in Manhattan. Thanks again to Winston for being such a gracious host and for making our stay a warm, wonderful and memorable one!! I will definitely recommend this apt to anyone I know who is ciming to New York!! Sincerely, Sheila Valenti, Northern California :)

I rented the apartment for myself and my two sons and daughter in law in Novenber 2007. My son and daughter-in-law had one room and I shared the room with the 2 twin beds with my grown son. We enjoyed it very much. We drove from DC and had the car so we drove into Manhattan every day. It is about a 30 minute trip but easy to get to. The subway is within walking distance(5 mins) and would be easy to use. Let me say something about the neighborhood. CarS were parked on the street, we came in late every night, etc. and no issues at all. I went out early every morning to the neighborhood Dunkin Donuts and, again, had no issues and was never worried. It is a quiet, comfortable, working class neighborhood. The beds were comfortable and clean, the kitchen had everything you would need for a short stay, and the bedding, towels, toiletries, etc. were all great. Paloma and Winston were fabulous, friendly, and helpful with anything we needed. I would highly recommend this as a place to relax and enjoy NY.
