“Magical Beach House”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2016

My husband and I reunited with old friends from college for a post-wedding beach week. We wanted a place that would house three 40-something couples in comfort and style, yet still feel part of the beach--away from the usual boring, new construction, cookie-cutter build out and something unique with a true 'beach house' vibe. We found our house! This perfectly boho, incredibly dialed-in, mid-century bungalow was exactly what we were looking for—beautifully furnished, well equipped in the kitchen and perfect for cooking, hanging, BBQing, cocktailing... we went out only two nights out of seven because we loved being at the house so much! The backyard is lovely with manicured lawn, crepe myrtle & hydrangea, gas grill, comfortable seating and awesome outdoor shower (!). The screened entry, hallway and back porch was so special in light, space and design–if it weren't for the heat, I would have slept on the sofa 'swing'. We had many happy hours just hanging out and porch sitting. The location was ideal. I'm not a big fan of Dewey nightlife, so the quiet neighborhood (Rehoboth By the Sea) was well away from the bustle but situated perfectly between Rehoboth and Dewey–so both are easily accessible on foot or bike. The beach itself was really peaceful. No high rises or hotels in sight, not too crowded and seemingly a good mix of locals and visitors. We brought our own chairs and rented umbrellas from the beach stand. Well worth it as they would set it up for us everyday and we'd already have our spot waiting for us upon arrival. On our last night we took a night stroll out to the beach and saw some folks having a bonfire–apparently, with a permit, this is allowed. Very cool! Loved walking or biking to Fifer's Market–local produce, some gourmet stuff, eggs, coffee, the sweetest little beach market about 2 short blocks away. One thing we love to do is hit Henlopen Oyster House for happy hour from 3-5 and then hop next door to Salt Air for their happy hour from 5-7! Great food & drink at both and a quick trolly or drive from the house. It's really hard to find a house in the Rehoboth/Dewey area that has not only the location and vibe, but the elevated decor that this house has–at this price. In three words, this place is 'beach house perfection' and we will definitely be returning!
