Description of the Ridgway vacation home rental
A spectacular setting in the mountains just 13 miles south of Montrose, this house has approx. 3700 sq. ft. house (a converted post and beam barn) -- rustic but near-new construction. The house features an open plan or "gathering room," gas fireplace and custom lighting fixtures. This cook's kitchen features stainless steel appliances, custom cabinets, a prep/serving peninsula, and beautiful tile work--you never have to miss the fun while working in this kitchen! The house is wired for sound, satellite television, and internet for checking email.

The house sleeps eight to ten as furnished with 3 bathrooms (3 showers, 1 bath, 4 vanities). The luxurious master bedroom has a king size bed, an ensuite bath with heated tile floor, and dressing room, and fabulous views out to the Uncompahgre River. There is a second bedroom with a queen size bed and bath also on the main floor. The loft space has 4 twin beds. Another studio suite has a living area, king and twin beds, as well as private bathroom. Laundry facilities are available.

Winter Activities: Skiing, snowshoeing and sledding can all be done right on the property! Crested Butte and Telluride are east and west of the property respectively, and worth the short drive! You may want to catch the shuttle to Telluride in the mornings and return by shuttle after a day of skiing. Ice climbing and hot springs are available nearby as well.

Summer Activities: The river runs adjacent to the property on the west side, and then goes through the property on the south side--great for recreational access for tubing or rafting. The property has a varied terrain for hiking, however Ridgway State Park is approx. 1/2 mile south, Black Canyon of the Gunnison is approx. 20 miles northeast, Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area is approx. 50 miles north and the Colorado National Monument is a 1 hour drive north. There are too many National and State Parks nearby to list, but this is a great spot to access them all!

Autumn Activities: If hunting is your passion, you may be in the perfect spot! The Flying Pig shares a boundary with BLM and Billy Creek State Wildlife Area. With the proper tags, you may find that this is much more comfortable than a hunting camp and provides you with the access you need! If you are here to enjoy the fall colors, you will find the aspens surround you and any direction you look or drive you see the wonder of nature's paintbrush!

The Flying Pig property is located between Ridgway and Montrose. 10-15 minutes either way gives you easy access to grocery stores, restaurants and shopping.
Ridgway: In this charming town just 10 miles south (on the way to Telluride), you will find quaint 'old western' shops, Jeep and Kayak rentals, a fine dining (Drake's), authentic Mexican (The Adobe Inn), Chinese, and even a Thai restaurant, just to name a few of the choices.
Ouray is a bit farther south (20 miles), you will find vestiges of the old mining town, and the beauty of the natural setting will take your breath away. Wander the streets and shops of this quaint town, and stop at the deli, the candy store or a restaurant for a meal. Hike the trails along the canyon walls or try ice climbing.

Montrose: To the north, another quaint western town, provides many options a variety of quality restaurants, bowling, 2 movie theatres, and many great restaurants. If you forgot any sporting goods, you will even find a Sports Authority.

Whether it is the San Juan Mountains and Mount Sneffels, the Uncompahgre River, or the wildlife and natural beauty, this place is picture postcard perfect!

golf trip

I had 10 adult men taking an annual golf trip, this year to the Montrose area. We all like to stay in the same building if possible and this year it was. We had 8 seperate, comfortable beds plus we set up two of our own bed/mattresses because each like their own bed. This place had plenty of room both upstairs and in the loft for eberything necessary. A 3-car garage is available which we used to dry off our golf clubs because of the unfortunate weather. The kitchen was great, the interior of the house was well decorated plus the amenities were more than adequate. We will go back on our next stay in that area if available. Our thanks to vacation rentals and to the owners.

That was the comment made by my 5-year-old nephew when he saw the house for the first time and the "hayloft" where he would be sleeping! My husband, sisters-in-law, and three nephews rented this home for a long weekend in mid-July and it was absolutely perfect. Crossing the stream and driving up the hill to find this house at the foot of a mountain is a memorable experience. Having coffee on the patio first thing in the morning, building a fire in the firepit and watching the stars before going to bed at night, was beyond peaceful. We saw deer just a few feet from the house as well as friendly chipmunks running near the patio. The house is well-equipped with everything you need for a great vacation and the area was close to lakes and streams (for swimming and fishing) horse-back riding, great restaurants and shopping. We definitely plan on returning next year, but for a longer period of time!

My husband and I stayed at this property and enjoyed the accommodations and the setting very much. As you drive up to the property you cross this quaint bridge over the river, and then wind your way up to the barn that has been converted into the most cozy, charming lodge. Each room is furnished to make you feel at home, especially the gathering room and kitchen area with the fireplace! The views from the hayloft area are beautiful, and allow you to see elk as the pass through the property and eagles as they soar down the river. We wouldn't have known that the managers were even onsite, except that they kept the driveway cleared of snow for easy access and provided assistance when we asked for it. We even had them cook dinner for us a couple of nights when we returned from skiing over in Telluride. We loved how comfortable this place was for our family and the kids love the bunks in the "hayloft" area. We thought the rent was reasonable, since we would normally spend that for 2 hotel rooms without any of the extra amenities and comforts. We highly recommend this as a vacation rental to families.
