Description from owner

"Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!" Thoreau

Escape to the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the sounds of the Shenandoah River. Located just 75 minutes from the Capital Beltway, and nestled on six wooded acres in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, The Cabin is the perfect getaway for couples, families or a small group of friends (2-4 people). The Cabin offers two bedrooms, both with Queen beds. Rustic knotty pine walls and a large stone fireplace enhance the dining and living area. (Gas Logs in Fireplace) The kitchen is fully equipped and is a step away from either an 8' x 14' outdoor deck or your own spacious 20' x 20' screened porch. On the screened porch you will find a four person Jacuzzi hot tub, a picnic table for outdoor dining and a hammock where you can lie back, relax and listen to the Shenandoah River. For those who want the camping feeling there is an outdoor fire-pit.

Our private river access is less than a mile walk from the cabin. We are also within a half an hour of many popular attractions such as canoeing or tubing on the historic Shenandoah River, hiking in the Shenandoah National Park, horseback riding, or fly-fishing on a mountain stream. You can take a drive along Skyline Drive or explore the depths of Luray Caverns, or just browse for antiques in downtown Luray. For children there is Jellystone Park with miniature golf and the Luray Reptile Center and Petting Zoo. Massanutten Ski Resort is only 45 minutes away.

The Cabin is a great base for year round activities in the mountains of Virginia. Come enjoy the privacy of your very own cabin in the woods.

“relax”

This cabin is so nice, we hated to leave. The most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. Loved it!!!

“Warm and cozy”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2014

This little cabin was a perfect weekend retreat for us and our adult daughter, her husband ( who had just returned from service overseas) and 8 month old baby. The bedrooms have enough closet space between them that we did not hear baby during his hourly stirrings. We hiked a beautiful trail in the state park, had lunch at the artisan corner in luray and took in a great bluegrass event at the fire station ( we lucked out on that one since it was not posted on line or at the visitors center in luray; we happened to be driving by the station house and saw a sign). We used the hot tub each night, once after our hike and the other as we watched a march madness game streaming from our computer! Thank goodness for the wifi! And thank you to Derek the owner, who provided a clean cozy space to relax and play.

“Great relaxing spot!!”

“Lovely Little Retreat”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2013

The Cabin provided the perfect setting for a weekend getaway. We visited during the government shutdown, so the National Parks were closed. The weather was unusually wet for the entirety of our stay as well. While these things might ordinarily have been a damper on a weekend vacation, the cozy little cabin was perfect to shelter us from the rain. We cozied up by the fireplace and enjoyed the hot tub on the covered porch while we listened to the rain fall. Just a short drive from downtown Luray, we enjoyed a visit to the caverns and tasty dinners, while the cabin had all we needed to prepare breakfasts in. The owner was very accommodating; as we originally had planned to take our dog on the trip with us and later changed our minds, he was fine with us deducting the pet fee when we paid for the balance of our stay on departure. We would absolutely recommend this property, or any others owned by Woodside Cabins, and hope to return.

“nice cabin with screened porch & hot tub”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2013

We loved staying at the cabin in the woods! The cabin was clean & we liked the cookies that welcomed us.We enjoyed the screened porch for our breakfasts. It was great to be close to Shenandoah Nat. Park, we enjoyed a week of needed relaxation with hiking, hot tub, grilling & exploring all the attractions that Lurray has to over. A neat place to go to is Arrowhead Lake if you are looking for a swim with kids, Lurray Zoo with petting Zoo. The cabin has no Internet reception, Burger King in Lurray offers free WiFi. One thing that we would like to suggest to the owner to improve would be to have secure trash cans that the animals of the woods can't access. We had to pick up the trash three times after a animal left it thrown all over. It would also be nice to have towel rods in the bathroom, since there is no place to hang towels. Thanks for letting us relax at your cabin.

Owner's reply: We are glad you enjoyed the Cabin and all it had to offer. I am sorry about the situation with the animals and the trash. I will take measures to make sure that the trash cans are secured so this will not be a problem for future guests. We appreciate your suggestions and will have some towel hooks added to the bathroom. We hope to add Wifi in the near future. Hopefully you can return soon to see the improvements we will make.

“Awesome rental”

Cabin was great. It was secluded and the hot tub with the hammock was a nice bonus. Would definately rent again it was amazing.

“Beautiful Place”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2012

Picturesque place with amazing deck looking out on the river. We brought our dogs who loved running around the property. Any gripe I might have would be with the national park itself, as Skyline Drive sort of offered the same view over and over with each lookout point. Only could do one hike, which was nothing special. I probably should see more of the park though to be fair. I lived out west for a long time as well and I am used to bigger mountains also to be fair. Wish I had spent all my time at River's nest with that in mind. Still a gorgeous area.

Owner's reply: Bill, We are glad you enjoyed your time at the Chalet. You should definitely give the Shenandoah National Park another visit. Although our mountains are not big in size they are majestic and many of the hikes are absolutely magical. We hope you can return again and explore deeper into the Shenandoah Valley.

Great cabin! Very clean with all the amenities you could need while still remaining rustic. Also, central to all of the great spots the area has to offer.

“Wonderful experience!”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2010

What a wonderful week at this cabin! We celebrated our wedding anniversary in seclusion! It was great! We had a very spring time experience... it started off hot outside and the owner of the cabin put in the AC for us. By the end of the week we needed to use the fireplace. We have been trying to figure out when we can come visit again! We loved the cabin and the area. We visited the cabins, took a drive to Monticello, went horseback riding, among other things. Thanks for having the "book" of activities available... it helped us out a lot.

“River Bluff Cabin”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2010

The cabin was quaint and secluded. The space was comfortable and the inside was clean. The porch was dirty and loaded with dead bugs and such. We were constantly fighting off large ants in the house and a mouse got in somehow and ate our bread and left his droppings everywhere. With an occasional cleaning of the porch (dust and bugs) and spraying for ants and mice, it would be a great place to stay.
