About the area

Lake Santeetlah is a pristine mountain lake with 76 miles of shoreline. Eighty percent of the land around the lake is managed by the U.S. Forest Service making this beautiful recreational lake one of the best kept secrets in the Smokies. A great place for swimming, boating & fishing, Lakefront Cottage on Lake Santeetlah is located approximately 8 miles north of the town of Robbinsville. A small mountain town within a 10 to 15 minutes drive from the cottage with all your basic shopping needs, medical care, drug stores, gas stations, public swimming pool, tennis courts, library and restaurants. This Smoky Mountains area is rich in outdoor recreation from recreational lakes, hiking trails including The Appalachian Trail, mountain biking, horseback riding, gem mining, whitewater rafting, kayaking, scenic drives & historical sites. Motorcyclists and Sports car enthusiasts have discovered the area with it's Internationally known Tail of the Dragon (Hwy. 129), Moonshiner's 28 (Hwy. 28) and the Cherohala Skyway, a National Scenic By-Way. Just minutes from the Cheoah River for whitewater rafting & kayaking on a Class III & IV+ river during special events. Within a 20 to 25 minutes drive is Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest & The Cherohala Skyway. Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, named after the gentleman that wrote the famous poem "Trees", is a virgin timber forest with hiking trails and trees over 400 years old. You'll need 5 or more people to reach around some of those trees!! The Cherohala Skyway which is a designated National Scenic By-Way has breathtaking scenic views as you travel to elevations over a mile high. Don't overlook the hiking trail out to Hooper Bald. It's an easy trail and well worth the hike. As my grandson said as a youngster several years ago when we reached the bald "Wow!" There are several hiking trails for your enjoyment that provide views that can only be enjoyed by foot. For a challenging day hike, you can hike a section of The Appalachian Trail as it crosses through the county and Fontana Dam and then enters the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Or, discover Yellow Creek Falls & hiking trail off Hwy. 129, approximately 12 miles North of Robbinsville. Twenty Mile, located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located off Hwy. 28 near Fontana Dam. You're sure to enjoy the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center Gallery or a Saturday evening of entertainment during the Summer Evening Concert Series. Local Artisan Studios can be found throughout the county and our local artisan's welcome visitors. So come and explore, relax and enjoy our beautiful mountains.

“Fall retreat”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2016

My family stayed at Lakefront for a long weekend with grandparents. What a wonderful spot in God's creation. This was our 2nd time on Santeetlah and at Lakefront Cottage. We enjoyed the fall colors, long walks and the peace and quite of the beautiful mts. We rented a pontoon boat and rode all over the lake, for bird watching, picnics and the water (kids even swam!) Hope to return soon! Having access to a canoe or Kayak as some rentals provide would be nice. thanks for sharing your mt. lake get-away.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Lakefront Cottage on Lake Santeetlah. We're pleased to read how much you and your family once again enjoyed your stay. We understand how providing a canoe or kayak at the rental cottage could be enjoyed by some guests but care of equipment and liability is a concern so we prefer that guests either bring their own or rent from local boat rental businesses. Thanks again and we hope you will visit us again in the near future.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

My husband, our two young baby girls and family friends really enjoyed the lakefront cottage! The pictures do not do it justice...much more modern looking in person. The pictures of the scenery can't touch the experience of being in such a pristine and beautiful environment. If we could, we would come back for all seasons to just take in the views and calmness. We will be back! Only thing we had for complaints was the dock needs some updating but otherwise...we had no complaints. Make note there is no cell phone service or Internet which could be a pro or con. We enjoyed disconnecting so it was great for us! Thank you for a wonderful vacation! - Submitted August 10, 2014 by the Jones family.

REALTOR NOTE: A new dock was installed in October, 2014. Cell phone & Internet services depends on your carrier. If you have Verizon wireless and an iphone you shouldn't have any problems with service. Also note, there's a land line with nationwide, unlimited long distance at no additional cost to you.

My family of four from Naples, FL enjoyed this lakefront cottage with a dock. It was fully stocked, clean and lovely. I would like to see them add the use of a kayak or canoe. Not too far to many interesting things to do as well. Very relaxing! Submitted by Renee D. - August 6, 2014

Diana, Thank you for your efficiency and care in making the arrangements. The house was wonderful for us. We enjoyed the porches and the lake access. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and well appointed. We surely look forward to our next visit to Lake Santeetlah!! Submitted by Ginny from Rome, GA - July 17, 2014

Thank you Diana for helping us arrange our vacation at this lovely cottage! This was our 5th visit to NC and by far our favorite spot!! It was wonderful to arrive to such a clean smelling and immaculate home. We commented that we always try to leave rentals "nicer than we found them" but that we had our "work cut out for us!" The place was exactly as listed, no surprises. The lake view was my favorite. The lake is clean and wonderful for kayaking, boating, tubing, skiing and swimming. Coming from busy Florida beaches, this setting was so peaceful and relaxing. We appreciated that the grocery was just a short drive as were a few restaurants. Although we did not use the downstairs (separate entry) bedroom, it would have been perfect for older teen / adult children or mother-in-law. We look forward to our next trip in 2015!
