Description of the Rockland vacation home rental
5 bedroom farmhouse with 2 fireplaces, large kitchen, dining room and living room on 12 wooded acres. Enormous screened porch, all with great views of the harbor and islands. Dirt road to beach and beautiful, panoramic views of Penobscot Bay. Swim, kayak, snorkel, picnic on a private beach. Play croquet in the front yard as you watch the boats go by. Walk to the lighthouse and see a 360 degree view of Penobscot Bays many islands, the Camden Hills and the Samoset Resort. Owls Head light is one of Maine's most photographed sights. Have a lobster and clam feast in the front yard or on the porch, depending on the weather (yes there is a large lobster kettle). House is fully furnished with linens, towels and a completely equipped kitchen. There's a TV, wood for the fireplaces and plenty of old and new books in the book cases to cuddle up with in the living room or rocking away on the porch in a rocking chair. On friday evenings, 4 or 5 wind jammers will anchor in the harbor and you can see them take down the sails for the night with a pair of binoculars.

Area Information
Owls Head has it's own airport less than four miles from the house, with direct flights to Boston. It is also home to it's famous Owls Head Transportation Museum. Town tennis courts across for the airport. Owls Head is a large penninsula that juts out deep into Penobscot Bay, with the lighthouse at its very tip. Rockland is just five miles away. Every summer, Rockland hosts The North Atlantic Blues Festival (mid July) and the Rockland Lobster Festival (the first 3 days of August). There are many fine area restaurants, including: The award winning Primo, The Waterfront, Amalfi, Peter Otts, The Sail Loft, Francene's, Miller's Lobster Pound and Cafe Miranda, to name a few. Owls Head is approximately 2 hours north of Portland and 2 hours south of Bar Harbor. There are various ferries to the local islands, including: Monhegan, Metinicus, Vinalhaven, North Haven and Islesboro. There are several golf courses nearby, climbing and hiking in the Camden Hills (with spectacular views up the coast) or have lunch on the docks in Camden as you admire the hundreds of yachts that are tied up in the foreground.
