A lot of the best seafood you can get along the coasts of Ecuador is here.

The restaurants are basically specialized in seafood. The typical food are for example: the shrimp ceviche, arroz marinero (Seafood Friend Rice), and many others. Some of the places that you can find all the types of seafood that you will like to try once you are in Salinas are: Restaurant "Mar Y Tierra": This is one for the most prestigious restaurants in Salinas, because of the time they have been working, and also because the food is delicious, if you go to Salinas you must go to "Mar y Tierra" to eat. The best ceviche (Cocktail Shrimp or Fish or Mix )at least the most famous places for ceviches are two: "Cevichelandia", and "La Lojanita". They are located in the second street, one street from the Malecon. Besides this in the malecon street, you can find a lot of restaurants, that are chepaer but are still good. The seafood is not the only famous food, also the "carne en palito"(Beef Skewer), and the "arroz con menestra"(Rice and Beans), are also really good. One of the best "arroz con menestra" can be found in "Carloncho", a restaurant that is in the malecon.

Transportation to Salinas from Guayaquil.

There is one company that runs shuttles between GYE (Guayaquil) and Salinas called "Ruta del Sol". They have offices in both locations. In GYE they are behind the Ramada Hotel in GYE and in Salinas next to Bariloche Café on the Malecón.

They operate 7 days/week from 8am-6pm. After/before-hours pick-ups available at higher rate. Per person shared vehicle rate is $10 one way. Private car $50 to $80 one way. Private van $90.

Call me for more info and schedules:

GYE office
SAL office

They also pick up/drop off in/around the Salinas area, such as Anconcito, Punta Blanca, Ballenita, etc.

MI Comisariato JR.
We are very lucky to have a supermarket close to our apartment building called Mi Comisariato Jr. Named Junior because it is not as large as their other stores, it does have most of what a family would need on a daily basis. The fresh bakery is well stocked with rolls, breads, croissants stuffed with fresh cheese and ham (one of our favorites), sweet rolls filled with pineapple or mora (blackberry) jam or fresh cheese as well as fresh rolls for hamburgers, hot dogs and submarines. They have a very small deli with sandwich meats and cheese sliced to order where you can also get decadent bacon. Their choice of fresh fruits is not huge but is acceptable.

It is located in the southwest of the country on the right bank of the Guayas River, about 20 miles from its mouth in the Pacific. Its population, coupled with its metropolitan area totals habitants, which makes it the country's largest city .

everything I needed

June 3, 2013

Perfect for my needs. Fully furnished. Manager was helpful with taxis and translation. If you needed something, he was there. Was quite noisy, right on the malecon. But if you like being in the thick of goings-on its a blast. Building security was always there and helpful. Great, clean. Wi-fi, DIrect TV (with some english channels). Convenient to grocery store (right behind the building)! Taxis & buses abundant. And being on the malecon-restaruants and service everywhere. Only draw back was it needs a potato peeler.

Owner's reply:

Thank You very much for your nice comments.

My Salinas Vacation

January 17, 2012

I have to say that apartment was really above my expectations. Edificio is located in the front of the beach, and from 15th floor it has a breath taking view. Apartment is very quiet during the night, which is important for me. It is fully furnished, and it has all what is needed for a good vacation - including washer and dryer. It also has an Internet access, and local telephone line. But you may buy telephone card to call your family and friends abroad. Apartment building is just few years old, and it was designed by a master architect, so it makes you proud to live there. Working staff is very friendly, and more than helpful. If you like cooking and eating fish, you may go boat fishing, or go to the nearby fish market, where you may buy the best fish just for a few dollars. If you like "Thermal Waters ", there is one very near in "San Vincent Aquas". Termales are ranked as one of the best in the World. You may enjoy there:sabila massage, and volcanic bath (rich in minerals) in mad basin and later bath in hot water basins. There are many restaurants and two luxury hotels near the apartmant building. One of them is hotel BARCELO. Daily they serve a great evening brunch buffet. Every Saturday evening they hold dancings. To spend time, you may take some trips to nearby Ocean fishing towns, or visit touristic place Montanita - it is one day round trip.. Apartment has 60 Sq Mts (a little less than 500 Sq Ft). It has a queen bed, recliner and sofa, and HD flet TV - it is furnished in a nice style. It is just perfect for a couple in love or a small family. I could say much more, but I will let you to discover it, and later add your own opinion. I wish that all future rentals will have the same loving and unforgetfull and enjoyable time in Salinas as me and my love had. Marco Osipowicz and Mary F...

Perfect apartment/condo for a family of four. The apartment was clean, easy to get to and relaxing. My family and I had a great time. The apartment has a beautiful ocean view to the beach. it is not located on the beach but walking distance is only 2 blocks. The price is reasonable for the apartment. Not as advertised

September 27, 2011

This property is NOT on the beach nor does it have a coffee maker. It is approximately 2 blocks from the ocean, with a view through other properties, and approximately 1 mile from the walking part of the Malecon. The pictures posted on the web-site of the beach, ocean and Malecon are not taken from this apartment. There is no hot water in the apartment other than a small individual unit attached to the shower in the master bedroom providing luke-warm water. The water in the apartment is not drinkable and we had an ant problem. The building is clean, it does have a nice elevator and small pool (the picture on the web-site shows the pool but is also not taken from the apartment) and the young men working as 24-hour security and to let you in and out of the pad-locked gate are very nice though they speak little or no English. I would not recommend taking the offered car service from Guayaquil as there are cheaper and safer alternatives. Salinas itself is lovely and fun. From Americans we met while there, we found that there are other cheaper but nicer alternatives to this apartment.

When I got into our unit on the fifth floor, it was a real shock to open the door. The unit was dirty and ugly. It was not at all like the pictures that we had seen on the Internet. No parasols in front of us, old and sagging mattresses, oceanview in-between 3 buildings. The kitchen was dirty and crummy with old, rusty and unsafe appliances. The propane was sitting next to the oven and the microwave and sandwich maker were full of crumbs. No curtains whatsoever to maintain privacy in the kitchen and living room and damaged roller bamboo curtains in the bedrooms. The kitchen window had the roof of the adjacent building right in it giving direct access to the unit to anyone who wanted to break in. The lock for the sliding patio doors was also broken. This building was in such a rundown and tough neighbourhood that it had to be kept locked-up at all time and only one person had the key to the heavy metal gate. It really looked like a jail. And when we wanted to leave the building or come back into it, we had to wait for this gatekeeper to come and unlock the gate. Although willing to be useful, the spoke NO English. We also noticed that some doors had 4 dead bolts on their door, a sign that everything was not a secure as we thought it was. After a long day of traveling in the dust, we found out that there was no hot water for showers. We went into the lobby to inquire about hot water and the person sitting there had no idea what we were talking about, like hot water in the shower was a big luxury that this building could not afford. We also asked to talk to the owner (who was hiding somewhere in the United States) but the security guard had no way to communicate with him or with his sister (4 hours away in another town). The only way that we could communicate with the owner is through the Internet, and there was no Internet in the building, the closest one being in a Cyber cafe at half an hour walking distance. The pictures posted on the Internet do not reflect the building and the unit. If you want to see the real pictures, send me an email and have a look for yourself. Then decide if you want to ruin your vacation time in this building and this section of Salinas. BTW, don't expect a refund for you screwed vacation.
