THE VILLAGE - is peaceful, with a slow rate of annual development. Mature trees tower over small buildings that are mostly 1 and 2 stories high. For a village, Samara is amazingly self-sufficient. SERVICES - a private doctor, a public medical clinic, dentist, tourist information, tour operators, bicycle/ATV/car rentals, gym, vet, banks, ATM's, car mechanics; and classes for Spanish, massage, surfing, kayak, stand-up paddle, horse-riding, yoga, pilates and zumba. STORES - small supermarkets with local and imported goods, clothing and variety stores for beachwear, water-sport, gifts and house-ware. Natural Center with market of local goodies twice a week and a 7-days a week Organic store (amazingly well-stocked!). Bakery with breads baked daily; heavenly cinnamon buns, muffins, brownies and ice-cream cakes. RESTAURANTS - beach-front, open air meat grills, seafood, Italian, local Tico, vegetarian, vegan. Bars, live music, karaoke; one bar serves mico-brewery beers and another has wine selections, Both foreigners and locals call Samara their home.
THE BEACH - The road into town ends at the Police station and the Samara beach. Semi-circular in shape, it would take about an hour to walk from one end to the other. Because of the shape and the natural rock wave-breaks offshore, Samara beach changes character along its length. At the north end, it is calm like a swimming-pool, especially at low tide, hence its popularity with families with small children, snorkelers and beach explorers. Further south, the waves get bigger, delighting surfers of all ages. At the south end, the water is again calm and is popular for fishing and swimming. It is also a good spot for watching pelicans and jumping fish. Parts of this beach have restaurants just off the water (marvelous setting for drinks and meals). Other parts of this beautiful beach are quiet and undeveloped, ideal for relaxing and sunbathing. Towards the south end is the village of Matapalo, home of the local fishermen offering fresh catch of grouper, red snapper, sea bass, tuna, marlin and shrimps, all cleaned on the spot, ready to cook. The beach is wide enough for occasional intense soccer games, frisbee and for several volleyball courts. Just outside of Samara are many natural attractions and other superb beaches such as Playa Carillo, Playa Barrigona (Mel Gibson's hangout), Camaronal, Punta Islita, etc.

Reviews for this vacation other rental in Samara, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
December 10, 2015
Having spent several nights in December, I enjoyed staying in this scenic location. You can relax and enjoy a stunning sunset from your balcony. It was always cool and breezy. No mosquitoes. I slept very well without having to use air conditioner. The place is in close proximity to the Samara beach. Early in the morning one feels at one with nature and at the same enjoys the amenities of modern life. The room felt comfortable and homely. Both owners, Canadian couple, Hussein and Larisa were very helpful in answering questions and providing helpful information about the area (e.g. restaurants, supermarkets, beaches, transportation, etc). I would definitely stay here again during another visit to Costa Rica.
