This quintessential Southern California beach town is renowned for its world class surfing, clean, beautiful beaches and friendly vibe. Built in 1926 for James H. Bennett, San Clemente's first fire chief, Casa Miramar San Clemente enjoys a premier location in the heart of historic downtown, steps from shopping and restaurants, and a short walk to the beach and pier.

Private and cozy, our two-bedroom/one-bath bungalow is protected under the state's Historic Preservation Act. The Bungalow retains its old world Spanish charm with hand scraped wood floors, redwood ceilings, original fireplace and tile. Whip up up a batch of margaritas, smell your steaks sizzling on the grill, water fountain trickling in the background, then dine al fresco on the private deck under a starlit sky. The only thing better than a day at the beach is tucking into comfortable beds decked out in luxury linens with down comforters and plenty of feather pillows!

kayla said... Great Place for Family Vacation
Last minute my sister and I decided to get the kids together for a few days at the beach before school started so we had to scramble to find a place for us and our three kids (10,12 and 13). We really lucked out. It was hot, so perfect beach weather, and this place was great from beginning to end. My sister, and nephews stayed in the house, while my daughter and I took the apartment. Honestly, it was even better in person. The apartment is beautiful and elegant. The house is absolutely charming. Everything looked brand new--towels, beds, sheets, glasses--I mean everything. We could tell the owner put a lot of thought into making us feel at home. (She left homemade granola for us and even offered to make a grocery since we were coming into town late). Really nice to have all the stuff we needed for the beach, including coolers, chairs and enough boogie boards to go around so no arguing between the kids.
The location is really great, too. Quiet but close to lots of things we wanted to do. We didn't even need our car. There's a great Mexican restaurant 1/2 a block up the street. We walked to Pizza Port and Baskin Robins and cooked hot dogs on the grill to take down to the beach. My sister and I enjoyed sitting out on the deck during the evening while the kids were watching TV. Too bad our husbands couldn't join us--they'd have loved it, too.
Good times, good times.
We'll be back!

Get together with my brother and his family for a week every summer. Last year, we sucked it up and stayed at the Montage in Laguna. This year we skipped the fancy resort and rented a house big enough for the eight of us. It was was quiet, private and the set up was great. Perfect location for what we wanted -- relax, talk, read, play some board games, walk to everything, have some great meals -- and not pay through the nose. Could definitely see how places closer to the beach would be noisier and more crowded. The kids had plenty of space to muck about. The owner made some good restaurant recommendations and got us hooked up with surf lessons.

Quaint European-style bungalow. Reminded me of the high end apartments found in Prague, sporting the latest amenities mixed together with Old World charm. Compact and efficient, the kitchen is fully stocked. The bathroom has a full-body shower and towel heater. Gorgeous hardwood floors and ceilings. We really appreciated the fully stocked beach gear closet, with towels, chairs, boogie boards, umbrellas and rolling coolers.
We didn't get an opportunity to try the outdoor bar-b-que because of all the great restaurants only a block away. We also didn't get to fully explore all of the cute little shops on the road leading down to the pier. The weather was so lovely, we just had to spend our days sunning on the beach and riding the famous San Clemente waves.
The weekend of our visit was particularly warm. Thank heavens for overhead fans in each of the rooms. Together with the adobe walls, we stayed cool. The photos didn?t really do this property justice. I was pleasantly surprised about how spacious and open it actually was. On top of that, the roof top and mountain view from the upstairs apartment were exquisite.

Owner's Response
Happy to hear you took full advantage of our fantastic October beach weather and spent your time riding the waves. Thank you for taking care of our home during your stay. Sounds like you left a few San Clemente stones unturned, and that's a great reason to come back. You're welcome here any time!

Spencer C. said ... Cameron's place was awesome!
He was very descriptive with arrival and departure notes including hints for great local spots to eat! He even left some home made Granola he maid for an arrival treat! the place was immaculately clean! He also had a closet full of Beach toys, boards, coolers, chairs, umbrella, towels ect..all you need to head out to the beach. The neighborhood was great and had covered secured parking behind a electric security gate. This is a highly suggested rental in my book!

Yann E. said...A great beach vacation!
We had a wonderful time staying at Cameron's bungalow. It is clean, well-maintained and Cameron has taken care of every detail. Cameron is very organized and responsive. The bungalow (which is really a two bedroom bungalow and separate one bedroom apartment) is very centrally located-two blocks from the main shopping street and a 10 minute walk from the beach. We look forward to visiting again!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is the best family-friendly beach?
A: Right at the Pier where you'll find showers, bathrooms, ice cream, coffee and cold drinks. Don't forget to walk on the pier to check out the fishing prospects (no license necessary to fish off the pier), and enjoy a sunset cocktail at the Pier Restaurant.
Q: What's unique about this property?
A: A few Ole Hanson properties still in existence have a casita, but none of the casita's have a full-size kitchen and separate bedroom. We especially like that our casita is upstairs, making the two spaces more private.

Gated/secure parking for four cars -- off-street parking is a must in San Clemente, where parking is at a premium year round.

An actual laundry room plus a locked storage room for stowing luggage, boards, chairs and other beach gear.
Q: What's a cool thing to do in town we can't do any where else?
A: Take a stroll through Casa Romantica on the way to or back from the beach. San Clemente founder Ole Hanson's 1927 villa is now a cultural center with beautiful gardens and the best panoramic ocean view in town. If you're lucky, you might chance upon live music or an art show. Yoga, art and children's crafts held regularly.
Q: Where can I go for a walk or run?
A: Pick up the San Clemente Coastal Trail at the Pier. The trail runs alongside the Amtrak train track (also a station here in town). The two mile trail is flat (great for strollers or little ones) and you can take it north or south. Of course, the views are unparalleled, and it's a little easier on the calves than running on sand!
Q: Best shopping?
A: I love the quirky used book, antique and consignment stores in the village tucked in alongside unique boutiques, home decor stores, bars and restaurants. If you want a big shopping experience, head north on I5 to the Outlets at San Clemente, OC's only coastal outlet shopping experience where you can shop top brands at outlet prices--with an ocean view.
