About the area

Gorgeous Crown Point. Watch boating, jet skiing and swimmers and the seasonal Sea World fireworks from your private patio. Belmont Park and Sea World are at the other end of the bay. Dozens of restaurants, bars, beachy-shops abound. History of Casa Riviera In the 1920's, there were few houses on Crown Point; mostly farms. The "water" in Mission Bay consisted of marshlands. By 1926, plots were being sold for homesites, the Mission Bay Yacht Club and dock were built at the edge of Edge Cliff Drive, and the bay was dredged for sailing and to reduce flooding. We believe Casa Riviera was built after 1927 and more than a decade before the Palmer homes were built on Crown Point during the 1940's. They were 3 bedroom 1 bathroom 1,000 sf, Eastern style homes built for the expanding Naval presence in San Diego, selling for $5,800! Casa Riviera always was two stories, with the balconies, the entry and fireplace tiles original to the house. Very well-built, it has withstood the salt air and Father Time! “Crown Point Perfect!”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2016

It was a treat to come back and rent the home that my family owned for over 30 years. It has been perfectly and lovingly restored - and is far more functional than it was "back in the day" with a chef's kitchen, expanded views from the master bedroom, a large hot tub in the private back yard, and the spacious front deck! If you are a runner, this home is the pefect place to start and end your 6 mile loop around Mission Bay each morning. Just steps above Mission Bay and the jogging/walking/biking path, you can get anywhere in the Mission Bay/Pacific Beach area safely and quickly by bicycle. Here's to the owners who have invested in each and every bit of trim and detail to make this lovely spanish style home a true trip back in time. Thank you!

Owner's reply: Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the restoration and upgrading of this historic home! I'm only too happy to share them with the new owners. We're glad your stay was enjoyable and look forward to your return. Remember to use your loyalty benefits when you make your reservation...Valued Returning Guest Discount! “Perfect week for a wedding in San Diego”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2016

Casa Riviera was everything we anticipated and more. We made Casa Riviera our home while visiting San Diego for our daughter's wedding. The house and grounds were well kept, well stocked, spacious, and inviting. The view was amazing. The location was central and a short drive to everywhere (airport, downtown, beaches, La Jolla). We could walk and ride bikes all around Mission bay on the Bayside Walk and cut over to the ocean. We carried the kayaks and paddle board across the street and had fun in the bay. We are a family of 4 adult couples (parents, 3 children and their significant others) and we had plenty of indoor and outdoor space for socializing as well as private spacious bedrooms and quiet sitting areas. Patti Sears made sure that all of our accommodations were as expected. I would highly recommend this vacation home to anyone.

Owner's reply: We're so glad this lovely family enjoyed their stay and shared a wedding photo, as well! They are welcome back any time...anniversary celebration? Remember your Valued Returning Guest Discount, too! Cheers, Patti and the Great Escape Team

“Casa Riviera - A Beautiful Oasis”

Reviewed 28 Jun 2016

Although I grew up in San Diego, I have lived in Tucson, AZ for the past 26 years. My nephew was graduating from La Jolla High School, so my family and I decided to make this visit a family vacation. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to vacation than Casa Riviera. Although we had a few minor problems when we arrived, the property manager was very attentive and resolved the issues immediately. The views from this magnificent home are incredible. The house is large with many different areas for anyone to go off on their own and have some quiet time. Casa Riviera made this vacation an amazing venue for family gatherings. We will definitely be returning again. Thank you for an outstanding vacation home!!

Owner's reply: The Robles Family is welcome back any time! Such a pleasant and cooperative group....I'm so glad they enjoyed themselves and this historic home. See you again soon and remember your Valued Returning Guest Discount is waiting. Cheers, Patti & the Great Escape Team

“Stunning! Perfection! Relaxing!”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2016

Four couples shared this magnificent home for a long weekend. From the moment we walked through the door, it felt like home. I am a native So. Calif. girl, and the 1920's spanish home just wraps her arms around you. The plaster walls, the detail, every inch was restored to perfection down to the original tile in the entry. The eight of us were traveling from the Pacific Northwest to a rowing regatta on Mission Bay, and this house could not have been more perfect for us. Walkable to the park just a few blocks away to the regatta finish line. The kitchen is a chefs dream, every small tool one would ever want or need. Several options to dine, whether it be on the front patio overlooking Sail Bay, the side yard with beautiful flowers at your small tiled table, or choose the larger table under the flowering vines. Two bedrooms upstairs share a gorgeous balcony overlooking Sail Bay, provides a great spot to have your morning coffee! The bedrooms were gorgeous and the bathrooms - beautiful tile everywhere! We did not have time to use the kayaks, but the bicycles were perfect. The large living room was a gathering place for everyone in the evening. The furnishing in this home are so beautiful and homey. I also love the breakfast room with such detail and views of the backyard. Wish we could have just moved in!!! We especially liked the fact that it had a garage and laundry room. The bay is just a short walk across the street, so if traveling with small children, one would definitely need to supervise the crossing, though not a busy street, there is not a designated crosswalk, however, the stairs down to the sand are close by. This is the second time we have rented from Patti, and Great Escape Vaction Properties, and she is a dream to work with. Always responsive, and the properties are always as described, if not better in person! Thank you once again for a wonderful mini vacation. We will definitely return!

Owner's reply: Thanks so much Joann for your kind words! You & your family are always a delight to work with, as well..I just knew you'd love this home! Since talking to my guests is an integral part of my business, not relying on the on-line only process, I'm able to get to "know" my guests...long story short, this family of crew-rowers will be competing later this year in Boston, home of this property's owners, who also turned out to be crew-rowers, & who graciously invited our guests to join them! Super!

“Perfect place”

Reviewed 24 Aug 2015

What a perfect place to celebrate my mother's 88th Bday vacation. There were 7 adults and 2 toddlers. The house was ideal for our needs, it was very well equipped with everything. It was all the comforts of home with the added benefits of a vacation. I would truly rent from this location again.

Owner's reply: This lovely family is welcome back any time! One of the perks of this job is "meeting" families such as the Quan's. Hope they return soon and remember the Valued Returning Guest Discount!

“INCREDIBLE HOME!!”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2015

We had our yearly family vacation in the beautiful Casa Riviera, it was an awesome stay. The house was clean, fully stocked with everything we needed to live like we were at home away from home. Beautifully decorated and very spacious. Love the nightly firework show from Sea World.

Owner's reply: This wonderful family enjoyed both the home and its history. They took such good care of everything, too, and I certainly hope they take advantage of their Valued Returning Guest Discount and schedule another vacation!
