Reviews for this vacation condo rental in San Diego, California

I had booked this condo in March for a stay in November for a conference.I was required to payin full in advance ,come late August I was informed that my 10 day stay was cancelled and I would be issued a refund . I had only a month and a bit to find new accomedations for a very large conference where all the hotels were booked . I would not recommend booking this property as you will not be assured your booking .

This small, comfortable studio is just right for a single person or couple visiting the area. Full kitchen and bath. Close to the Gas Lamp area attractions, but quiet even on weekends.

I'm an author, and I've been attending Comic-Con as a panelist for the past 3 years. I'm also a business traveler, so I know what to expect from 4 and 5 star hotels. I've been hugely disappointed by how the hotels in San Diego treat Comic-Con attendees, particularly for the amount of money being charged, so decided to try to find lodgings separately -- AND I'M SO GLAD I DID. Mudville Flats has the charm of a B&B with the autonomy of a condo. The room we were in, the smallest of the 3 available, was at least double the size of the hotel rooms we've had. It's an easy walk to the Convention Center, the Gaslamp District, and the ballpark, easy on and off the freeways, and with a full kitchen, secured, covered parking, and wifi all INCLUDED in the price, it's a deal. The owners, Linda and Mike, live on site, and are lovely people, eager to ensure their guests have a great stay. We booked our room for Comic-Con 2013 before we left, and Mudville Flats will be the 1st place I check whenever we're coming into San Diego for any other stay. Downsides: the bathroom in our unit was small, but easy to use and fully equipped. However, if you're a very wide person, it would probably be uncomfortable and difficult to use. Amenities: Patios and decks; BBQ grill on communal courtyard; full kitchen, with all cookware, utensils, flatware, and plates provided; wide screen TV w/free cable; hair dryer; shampoo, conditioner, lotion; free wifi; free secured, covered parking; grocery stores 1 and 5 blocks away; Gaslamp 3 blocks away; walking distance to Convention Center and ballpark; plenty of towels, including beach towels; king-sized, comfy beds; good A/C units and fans; sofabed couch; washer & dryer (extra charge for use, but nice to have available in case of emergency).

Convenient for convention, but...
December 7, 2011
I rented this place for business convention. It is a walking distance and convenient. However, the property manager does not seem like much trust in renters and there are many fees you have to pay if you don't follow the long list of agreement. She charged me $95 for cleaning fee beforehand, but I had to remove all trash from the room or else I get fined. I had to run the dishwasher and put the dishes away or else I get fined, etc. I was nervous when we checked out if I followed every rule so she won't charge my credit card on $500 deposit. I recommend this condo for those who need a place for convention and have experience in renting condo before, but I don't recommend for the first time renters and vacationers.

Some things to know before you rent this property: The owner was awful to deal with. She expects you to pick up the keys before 4pm, but does not let you leave your bags or go into the apartment one minute before 4. We showed up at 2pm after a 6hr flight and had to sit in front of the building with our bags and small son for 2hrs. They did not leave us the parking garage key and no one answered the phone when we called in order to get it. The dishwasher didn't work and the toilets kept backing up. Two weeks after our trip the owner tried to charge our credit card for a bunch of crazy charges without letting us know! Then she sent us a barrage of nasty emails demanding $200.00. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional person and will never rent from her again.
PE Conference stay
April 6, 2011
This rental was a fabulous place to stay for the week long conference. The proximity to grocery stores, the convention center and the gas lamp district was very convenient. Since we came as a group and used both rentals it was nice to have a place to unwind and gather afterwards. We will definitely look into doing this sort of thing at next year's conference!

After initially contacting owner for stay and given an ok for availability. I was unable to get a response from owner as our time to rent approached - and never did. Leaving me to have find alternative accommodations shortly before our stay elsewhere. Will not use this site again in the future.

Don't know if I should be mentioning this place so that I can keep it all to myself. A bit pricier than many of the others available, but the location makes up for it. It provided a quiet haven from the insanity around us during the week where we could just sit out on the central courtyard and relax during the evenings. VERY clean and amenities were all you could ask for.

Great Family Rental

This has got to be one of the best La Jolla area rentals for 6+ under $2000. Secure parking, great ammeneties, newer appliances, etc. Loved the pool facilities and available grills. A skip and a jump off I-5 so all of San Diego is easily gotten to, in addition to La Jolla Village only 10 mins away. Great vacation rental.

Although we paid a moderately higher price than quoted in the online ad, it was worth it especially with two young kids. Some minor glitches here and there, like missing can opener and laundry detergent, but overall we loved it and it would be hard to beat this in a typical hotel setting. We usually stay in vacation rentals and this one is up there with the greats. Underground parking access is key with two spots which came in handy when friends stopped by on a weekend night. Proximity to amazing food and drink in gaslamp was very exciting. Close to freeways and major attractions like zoo, seaworld, maritime museum, seaport village, etc. Bathrooms and bedrooms are well sized. VCR T.V. in guest room seems a bit Jurassic. Kitchen is awesome, very modern. The photos don't do it justice. It's a quiet setting despite being next to serious nightlife. Air con. & laundry works very well. Left wanting: High speed internet access would be nice. Pool is kind of small.

I'd like to keep this place a secret if I can... What a great alternative to a hotel!
