Area Information
North Park was established around 1915 and features classic architecture wide streets, and central location. The neighborhood started coming into its own early in the new millennium. When a check-cashing store changed over to a dessert restaurant, local residents knew something was happening. New restaurants are still opening, and the neighborhood has become home to hipsters from all walks of life. But don't take my word for it. Even the New York Times has written about all the good things going on in this neighborhood!
+ Bi-Weekly Free Summer Concerts at Nearby Bird Park.
+ The North Park Farmer's Market is every Thursday evening from 3 - 7pm on North Park Way at Herman Street.
+ Ray At Night artwalk just up the street is every month on the second Saturday night, from 6-10pm. Art and free live music in a festive setting.
+ Critical Mass bicycle ride leaves from nearby Balboa Park at the water fountain off Park Blvd., 7pm on the last Friday of each month.
+ Annual Toyland parade every December

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are there interesting places near the house we can walk to?
A: Yes! The house is a 5-10 min walk to two separate areas featuring restaurants and bistros, (Thai, Italian, Mexican, Vegetarian, California Fusion, Ramen House, and more), craft brew houses, wine bars, coffee shops, a yoga studio and a concert venue (The Observatory - North Park), and parks. I usually meet guests for a brief orientation of the home and neighborhood, and we have a comprehensive guidebook with all my recommendations onsite. I am always available for recommendations too by phone or text message.
Q: What activities are there for children?
A: This house is ideal for families because it is literally a 5 minute drive from the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park, and a 6 minute walk from Bird Park, which features a playground and great views of downtown. There are free outdoor concerts there in the summer. The Bud Kearns Memorial Swimming Pool is about 2 minutes away by car. We also have games and puzzles at the house, a free NextFlix account for free streaming movies, and a dvd player. Balboa Park contains most of San Diego's museums, and the San Diego Children's Museum is located at 200 W. Island Ave. downtown.
Q: What recreational activities are there for adults?
A: Nearby Morley Field (3 mins by car) is part of Balboa Park and offers golf, tennis courts, frisbee golf, swimming, mountain bike and hiking trails. We also have citywide bike sharing though DecoBike. The nearest rack is a few blocks away at 3880 30th St. at University Ave. Mission Beach is only 15 minutes away via Pershing Dr. and I-5.
