About the area

Great location: Close to fantastic restaurants, shopping, Golden Gate Park, excellent bus lines (#1, #2, #28, #33, #44,). Virtually all major downtown sights are just a direct bus ride away to the east, and beaches, Land's End, the Palace of the Legion of Honor, and Sea Cliff are a quick bus or bike ride to the west. Hop on the 28 bus get to the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marina and Fort Mason to the north. Walk directly into the Presidio/Mountain Lake Park from the back garden gate, and stroll across the Presidio to Baker Beach! The Lake District neighborhood has world-class recreation. You are within easy reach of 3 marvelous beaches: Baker beach, Ocean beach, or China beach. We are also located a short, scenic drive through the Presidio and over the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County, and just over an hour to the quaint town of Sonoma and all the wine country has to offer. Transportation tips: Muni Bus system: If you intend to ride the cable cars, then it is cheaper to buy a bus pass. The fare on the 1 California bus downtown is $2.25 and the cable cars are $5, so it is better value to get a bus pass. The passes are for consecutive days. 1-day Passport $14 3-day Passport $21 7-day Passport $27 Passports may be purchased on the Muni site or at the Airport, SFO Information Booth (Baggage Claim area) For more information on Muni Passports and the CityPASS visit the sfmta site. One of the easiest budget ways to get to the flat from SFO is a door-to-door Super Shuttle: it costs $17 per person each way. Each additional person in your party will cost $10. You do not really need a rental car, except if you wish to see the Wine Country or to explore Marin. There is an Enterprise rental car company on Geary between 6th and 7th. Renting a zipcar by the hour or day is another option if you would like to explore outside of the city.

“Great SF Getaway”

Reviewed 8 Dec 2016

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our several days stay in this cozy, comfortable flat in one of SF’s loveliest neighborhoods. The flat is well-appointed, tastefully decorated, and quiet. We were especially taken with the soft afternoon light that streams into the living room, creating a peaceful glow during the cocktail hour. Just through the back fence we found walking paths, beautifully tended greenery, and a charming lake. The location is perfect for catching public transportation to downtown SF. But you can walk just a few short blocks to reach SF’s spectacular Golden Gate Park, with enough attractions and diversions to gobble up a couple weeks of vacation. Even closer in are skads of Asian and European eateries in SF’s burgeoning “new” Chinatown. Among these is our favorite Burmese restaurant, Mandalay, which we’ve been visiting for 20 years now. This flat, in comfort and convenience, is perfect for two. You’ll wish you could stay longer; we did.

“Comfort and location”

Reviewed 30 Mar 2015

The apt had everything that I needed for a two month stay. The kitchen was fully equipped as were the bed and bath needs. An apartment facing the back overlooking greenery made for a peaceful setting. The location made shopping and getting around San Francisco easy. Lots of fun walking as well as several convenient bus lines. Many ethnic restaurants were within walking distance.

Owner's reply: We're delighted that Susan had a good stay. She was a pleasure to have as a renter.

“Excellent apartment in SF”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2015

We loved our time at this apartment. Well maintained, everything we needed and great location for us (we loved being right by the park and a quick bike ride over to Marin). Very attentive landlords who were quick to respond and always helpful. Street parking was a bit of a hassle, so leave your car behind if you can!

Owner's reply: Shanna and Larry were wonderful guests and we're so glad they enjoyed SF. We agree that, even though it's usually possible to find a spot on our street, the parking situation isn't optimal on weekdays now that the meter maids have become more vigilant. Still, there are solutions to be had if you find you need to have a car with you for your stay--such as leaving the car about 10 blocks to the west where one can park indefinitely, and walking back a number of blocks (or hopping on the #1 bus).

“A Gem in San Francisco”

There is a saying in California Real Estate circles, that the three questions to ask about a piece of property are 1) Location? 2) Location? 3) Location? granting this, 77 7th Ave. on a quiet elegant Street in San Francisco near the Presidio is perfection itself. The apartment is a little jewel; a pleasant bedroom, a well-stocked itchen and a wonderfully furnished living-room dining area with a pretty view, especially at sunset time. We spent several nights there and had a really fine time, taking busses (a three minute walk away) to the downtown museums and the Jackson Square designer area. A five minute walk brought us to Clement Street, famous in the city for its many Chinese markets restaurants and cafes. We highly recommend Don and Leila's apartment to any vacationer coming to this wonderful and exciting city. (p.s. there is even on-street parking on 7Ave., a real rarity in San Francisco.) “The BEST of San Francisco”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2013

This apartment in San Francisco offers absolutely the best of the city. If you want to feel like a native, this is the place! The apartment is attractive and spacious, with lots of light and all amenities, very comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen. The owners have thought of every possible comfort and convenience you might want during a visit. As travelers themselves, they have anticipated your needs in every small detail. There is a small garden, and best of all! you can walk out the back gate into the historic Presidio, as if it were your own vast private park. The Pacific Ocean and Bailey's Beach are an easy 30 minute walk through the park. The street is in a lovely and well established neighborhood, with gracious San Francisco period houses, near the markets, restaurants and shops on California and Clement Street. Downtown San Francisco is within walking distance, and if you want to ride, bus lines take you quickly to downtown, Golden Gate Park, all the San Francisco sights. I would always chose to stay here, rather than in the noisy downtown. Tranquility, parking, green space, shopping and dining, easy access to SF destinations, AND that special San Francisco charm.

“Beautiful apartment in the heart of San Francisco”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2012

We loved our stay at this San Francisco studio apartment. The owners communicated with us from the very beginning and helped answer all of our questions before we booked. Once we booked they were very helpful getting the contract together and describing the process for us as this was our first vacation rental-by-owner. We couldn't be more pleased with their service. We took the Super Shuttle from the airport and they dropped us off right at the front door. I knew from looking at Google maps that Nob Hill was a great neighborhood. It seemed that all of the great restaurants and attractions were on this side of town and we were right! The room was clean and even roomier than I was expecting it to be. The sort of "Galley" style kitchen is roomy enough for cooking and although I planned on buying groceries, we couldn't resist eating all of the great SF food for breakfast, lunch and dinner! The bed was very comfortable and there is drawer space below it for extra clothes. There are a few closets to hang clothes and we used the long wooden table to lay out more (we overpacked!) As suburban dwellers we had to adjust to city living for the week. None of it was bad and we really enjoyed the experience. The California St. Cable Car line is right in front of this apartment which was really neat. There is a bar next door and we heard people talking but it didn't seem to be a late night/rowdy crowd at all. Like most buildings in SF, there is not a thermostat to regulate the temperature, so don't be afraid to open windows! This is a great bargain. The price is right, the service is perfect, and the location cannot be beat. The apartment is in a safe location and we were comfortable the entire time. It is close to everything and I highly recommend you stay here! Some tips: we rented our cars from Enterprise on Turk St. AWESOME car rental place. Drove down to Monterey and Carmel and spent a night there. Also drove over the GGB to Muir Woods- do this! Also went to Yosemite and spent a night there. Ate at Sears Fine Foods, Squat and Gobble, Kokkari, Fleur de Lys, Jardiniere, Nob Hill Grill (breakfast), and many more. Make your dinner reservations now! They book months in advance! Lots of great places on Chestnut St in the Marina District and Hayes St in Hayes Valley. Get the 7 day MUNI pass.
