Description of the San Miguel de Allende vacation home rental
From the rooftop of this luxurious hilltop home on a narrow cobblestoned street in San Miguel, you can almost reach the glittering spires of the Parroquia on starlit nights. The house renovations highlight the amazing artisan work by local artists who are masters in carved furniture, metal repoussé works of art, sculpted stone, sponged paintwork, tile work, vaulted ceilings (bóvedas) and wrought iron. The architect created light filled spaces, fully taking advantage of the golden light of this town...even the bathrooms all have skylights.

You enter from the street through heavy mesquite doors into the older colonial part of the house dating to the 17th or 18th century. As you come into this original colonial foyer with 15 ft high ceilings, you'll find the ground floor bedroom and its hand painted tile bathroom. The bedroom has a gas fireplace with a stone mantel carved out of the local cantera stone. Going past this columned entrance into the renovated part of the house you will walk through the courtyard and to the 'portal' containing a wet bar with red cantera sink for dining al fresco. The courtyard has a grill and an authentic pizza/bread oven. The scent of jasmin tangled around the columns and the Juliette balconies perched above this courtyard will dazzle you.

My husband and I are both serious cooks and our 'hacienda style' kitchen is designed to cook and entertain, with a tiled kitchen island and custom designed gas burners fitted with a 'comal' (griddle for tortillas). It is a delight to cook in this kitchen, with enough space for friends and family to be part of the fun around this kitchen island.

There is filtered water throughout, including the wet bar.
Only the faucets for watering our plants have unfiltered water from the city.

The heavy mesquite dining table can accomodate up to 8 persons. This dining area is a combination dining/living room. Our cook is on call to prepare breakfast for you three times a week and for a nominal fee you can arrange for her to prepare a gourmet Mexican dinner for you.

The living room space has a carved cantera stone fireplace and a seating area. A flat screen television is hidden behind a handcarved entertainment center/bookcase in this area.

The master bedroom, on the second floor has a balcony towards the street as well as a courtyard balcony. It has an imposing fireplace for cold winter nights (in fact, every bedroom has a gas fireplace) and a spacious lightfilled, tiled bathroom with a bidet.

This floor has the 'mayan blue' bedroom with its boveda ceiling and Juliette balcony. The ensuite bathroom is a vision in travertine with prehispanic looking cantera columns lining the entrance to the giant tub/shower area. This entire area is bathed in sunlight from multiple skylights.

On this second floor, there is a fourth bedroom converted into the library/office area for you to work in, although the distraction is the view of the spires of the Parroquia from this space. This office space has a fourth bathroom.

The stairway from here takes you up to the rooftop through a horizontal sliding glass door, a design by the architect to bring light into the house and allow a passage to the roof at the same time. The rooftop is the non plus ultra of this house, the perfect place to have breakfast, sunbathe, or to contemplate a beautiful sunset with a glass of wine, surrounded by pots of lavender.

Our housekeeper, cook, and gardener/manager are there to help make this a perfect vacation.

My husband and I traveled with two other couples to SMA for the first time and renting this house was IDEAL! Gilda and Fulvio were extremely welcoming and helpful with all sorts of information for our visit, and their staff was professional and terrific (we even had Maricruz cook three authentic Mexican meals for us and each was amazing!) The design and décor of the house completely exceeded our expectations. The interior courtyard and roof deck were lush and coming from the snowiest winter in Boston's history, we were thrilled to be surrounded by such beautiful greenery and flowers. And we used the roof deck quite a bit... watching the hot air balloons overhead in the morning, relaxing with a book in the afternoon, and having cocktails in the evening while taking in the view and sunset... the roof deck was a bonus we truly enjoyed! In addition, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen and bathrooms were updated and beautiful, everything was clean, the water was filtered, wifi was available, etc. Finally, the house was centrally located which enabled us to walk to restaurants, markets, sights, shops, etc. Whether for a lazy morning, or the end of a busy day, there was nothing better than retreating to this casa. Truthfully, I can't imagine a better home for our stay in SMA. And we would definitely return!!

This year my husband and I decided to spend two months in SMA. We were so lucky to find this amazing home! From the moment you enter, and step in to the beautiful courtyard ,with the sounds of water from the fountain, you know you are on for an amazing treat... This house exceeded our expectations ...the layout works perfectly, and everything is much better than in the pictures... The staff, Maricruz and Miguel, are very courteous and efficient, making for a wonderful stay...Maricruz cooking is outstanding ! You will enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine.. From the well appointed kitchen ,through comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms,to the amazing rooftop, with million dollar views of the Parroquia and the city,is very difficult to find a better home. Gilda and Fulvio are delightful owners, very accommodating ,helping us with any information we needed. We are very happy we rented this house again for February and March 2016!!!
