Description of the San Miguel de Allende vacation home rental
Located 20 min walk or 8 min ride from Centro Historico, this beautiful, open plan home has everything you'll need for your trip to beautiful San Miguel de Allende.

The master bedroom has a large walk-in closet, comfortable King sized bed, gas fireplace, ceiling fans and entrance into a beautiful well-equipped bathroom. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed, full wall of closets and built-ins, ceiling fan and boveda (domed brick) ceiling. Both are tastefully decorated with carved painted headboards from the state of Michoacan. The adjoining bathroom has doors into each of the bedrooms. The bathroom has a large ergonomic bathtub, with shower over, a bidet, lovely cabinetry, and Mexican tile work, and skylights as well as a large window looking onto your private courtyard garden area.

The spacious walk-in closet has built-in drawers and shelves, and there is an ironing board and iron for your use, as well as a fold out drying device for your hand washing. There is a shared washer and dryer, and a clothes line as well.

This is a 3 home compound, shared with two one bedroom apartments that are separate from this, the main house. You all have use of the common laundry room with reasonable restrictions on times. Use from 9am until 9pm.

Your kitchen is equipped with a dish washer, gas range and oven, microwave oven, coffee maker, toaster, blender and all the dishes and cutlery you will need. There is a lovely pantry with antique doors, a double wide refrigerator, ceiling fan, skylights, under cabinet lighting, exhaust fan, etc.

Open to the kitchen is a dining room with charming Mexican table and chairs, and side cupboard, as well as a handy storage closet for your baggage. The wifi modem is in this dining room and provides free WiFi to the entire property. You will have a land line phone that you can use for unlimited calls to Mexican and 48 contiguous states in the US. No other use, please.

Also open to the kitchen and dining room, is the living room. two large walls of windows looking out to your private outdoor space, and one wall with gas fireplace. The wood beamed and tiled ceiling, make this a cozy sitting room. There are two sofas that can double as single beds in a pinch, and of course, another ceiling fan.

There is an outdoor stairway up to the rooftop terrace where you will find excellent views of the city skyline and surrounding mountains, as well as the acreage just behind the house that is undeveloped, and full of birds and indigenous plants. There is a space that is covered on the terrace to provide shade, where you can enjoy your morning coffee and evening wine, as well as an unfurnished art or yoga studio. In inclement weather, the outdoor furniture can be moved in here so you can enjoy the evening fireworks, or dramatic electrical storms. This is also an excellent place to write, or paint any time of year. There is a sink and counter space and a BBQ (nothing fancy), for your enjoyment.

I ask that you arrive between 3pm and 8pm. If not, special arrangements can be made, and guests will need to pay a small hourly fee to the person I hire to meet and greet you. Departures must be by 10 am unless otherwise agreed to. This is all because we have to make the house clean and ready for the next guest.

Area Information
As the center of Mexican Independence, as a World Heritage City, and voted number one vacation destination in the world, by Conde Nast Magazine, you can imagine there must be something special about San Miguel de Allende. And there is! The cobbled streets, and centuries old historic center is absolutely precious and beautiful. San Miguel has been an artist colony for decades, and has attracted several thousand expats from the Canada, the USA and abroad. The resulting influence is seen in very tangible ways...the restaurants are safe, using purified water for drinking, for ice and cooking. There is a higher consciousness about cleanliness in all food service, and even the street food is safe and delicious! Native Artisans from all over Mexico have brought their skills to San Miguel de Allende, and there is a 3 block long Native Artisan Mercado where you can shop for or just enjoy looking at, silver jewelry, Oaxacan rugs and tableware, beautiful embroidery work, incredible bead work, and much more.

I feel you need about a week to see all there is to see in San Miguel...one day, go on a 2 hour walk about town and get the history in either Spanish or English, your choice. You'll be taken into places the general public cannot enter. The history is so rich and colorful...this is a must for all capable of a walkabout. On a Sunday, sign up for the house tour, and be taken to some grand and modest homes, to see how the locals live. Now and then there is even an Hacienda tour! Spend one day at one of the many natural hot springs and indulge in the spa services! Not a water lover? There are many good day spas right in town too.

This is "Foody Heaven"! For a fee, I will take you on a 3 day food lover's spree, so you hit the best of the best. Visit the Saturday Organic Farmers Market, take Spanish or Art lessons while you're here.

There are tours to local out of town sites like Pozos and Atotonilco, and the city of Guanajuato, where old silver tunnels are now roadways under the Historic Center.

We are only about 4 hours from Mexico City. First class buses run all day between the two destinations...it would be well worth it to go for a couple of nights there, and visit the world class museums!

Here in town, are more galleries, open art studios, and wonderful shops for all sorts of things to send home, than you can count.

This particular address is about one mile from town center. It is fairly flat and easy walking, but there is a bus about a block away, and taxis are flat out cheap here.

Recently, a guest of mine rented a car at the BJX airport or nearby, (through Kayak) for $4 per day and $12 for insurance, so that they could travel around Mexico. I do not have off street parking, but usually if you do not leave anything in your vehicle, it has been fine parking on the street.

This immediate neighborhood or "Colonia" is called Santa Cecilia. It is a typical working class Mexican neighborhood. If you have an interest in speaking and practicing Spanish, and seeing how sweet the 'real people' are, try living here for awhile, and use the local shops and open-air mercado for your fresh fruits and vegetables. There are little tiendas/grocery stores on almost every street, where you will find milk, beer, cheese, produce, etc.

There is a basketball court and small playground a couple of blocks away, but you might find the court being used for Zumba exercise. If so, join in if you wish. There is a hair salon within 2 blocks.

Because you are a bit out of down town, you get a couple of special benefits: First, the price is better. Second, it is much quieter than in town where rockets, fire crackers, church bells, bus and other traffic, and partying, may disturb your sense of peace and quiet. If you want to be in the middle of that, please do choose something in Centro Historico. It can be lots of fun. I personally like the idea of respite in my home. After a day of walking, eating, site seeing, I find it wonderful to come home to a peaceful environment. You can even do some bird-watching from the beautiful terrace or rooftop, because there are some acres of open space with all the native trees and cacti. I've seen road runners on several occasions, hummingbirds, scarlet or crimson fly catchers, etc.
