Spacious and Comfortable, Private gated location --Perfectly located. Airport transport and tours available by bilingual American owner, Wonderful staff (cook, maid and gardener) plus complete menus, Hot tub, Pool table, Solarium, Beautiful Courtyard, Gardens, Terraces—This property has it all! No Children or Pets, please.

This house will truly be an unforgettable experience for you and your party. The property is located in the Historic Centro of the city in one of the most exclusive areas. You will be close to El Jardin with a leisurely 10 minute level walk from your front door. There are excellent restaurants, galleries and shops only two blocks away.

The rental includes the wonderful cook with a large repertoire of Mexican Dishes. (I will send Menus) Your host lives on property adjacent to the house, and is available to help with any problems you may have...a distinct advantage over arriving to an empty house with keys and a sheet of instructions! Airport transfers available too!

Within a quiet and gated community, you arrive at this large colonial house, with impressive carved stone facades and ironwork, a huge outside green area with grass, cactus, avocado, lemon, and pepper trees. Go back along the shaded walk to a very private entrance, where you enter the house with a unique and interesting floor plan; including a sunny formal living room, an impressive foyer, a large formal dining room with seating for eight persons, a spacious and beautiful kitchen with its own large table for informal dining, an arboretum with banana trees, ficus, bougainvillea, a 100 year-old pool table, plus a very comfortable adjoining den.

Walk up the impressive stone 'flying stairway' past a 20 foot cathedral window looking into a patio with a flower lined fountain and a beautiful tile-lined spa (easily holding eight persons) with old columns supporting the tile roof. At the top of the stairs admire the cupola and suspended chandelier, walk into the enormous master bedroom with comfortable Queen Mattress, and adjoining dressing room and bath. The boveda covering part of the master bedroom is a unique design which lowers the ceiling, giving the feeling of a canopy over the bed. Also at the head of the stairs, you may enter the guest wing of the house. It has a sunny and extremely spacious bedroom with a Queen bed, a similar canopy -boveda ceiling, fireplace with gas logs, and comfortable chairs for reading. The guest bath has a shower and is divided into 3 separate sections for the shower, washbasin, and commode. If there are more than 4 people in your party, there is a studio apartment available; with a queen size bed, TV/DVD, fridge, microwave and nice separate bath .

The entire house is a feast for the senses, with windows, light, and unending details... such as the lima-bean shaped tile bathtub in the master bedroom, the hand painted relief on the large arch spanning the kitchen, beautiful woodwork, stonework, arches, terraces, fountains, fireplaces, beamed ceilings, etc. The home has two Wurlitzer Juke boxes from the 30's and 40's (enjoy the lights but please do not play) a piano, an antique Brunswick solid oak pool table from the 20's, (please DO play!), Wet Bar, large outdoor grille, and patio furniture for outside dining. There is lots of comfortable furniture for just relaxing both indoors and out.

The staff includes the very capable and sweet cook, an upstairs maid who washes and irons linens and personal laundry, (personal laundry can also be left at the full service laundromat one block from the house) gardener, and a gatekeeper. Your locaton is perfect to take advantage of all the activities in this interesting city. Main house sleeps 4 persons--Cozy studio apartment also available 10 steps away for additional guests. Secure parking is available.

“Best getaway ever!”

Reviewed 26 Jan 2017

We just visited this gorgeous place for the 4th year in a row. We have NEVER revisited the same vacation place until we first came here in 2014. We have already booked for next year because this is just the best place imaginable. Our host is so accommodating, knowledgeable, & and always ready to point us in the right direction. The food we ordered from the cook was always delicious, as were all the surprise treats left for us (like guacamole, chips, fruit, etc.). Dare I mention the best margaritas you've ever tasted? We're already looking forward to next year!

Owner's reply: You guys are wonderful! See you next year

Comfortable, convenient, and congenial
I've stayed at B&Bs which were lovely, but this experience with was entirely different. Our host was warm and welcoming from the start, enhanced by a hefty pitcher of frozen margaritas and a row of limed-and-salted glasses. The guacamole is not to be missed. What a great introduction to San Miguel!

The cook will provide dinner if you'd prefer to eat in, and while I was hesitant about what this fabulous and plentiful food would cost, we were pleasantly surprised to find it much more affordable than going out. Go for it; you won't be disappointed with anything on the extensive menu. The rest of the staff, a housekeeper and gardener, keep the place clean and comfortable (including your laundry if you need it done).

The house is an easy walk to the Jardin, Parroquia, and shopping, and even easier to the end of the street to hail a cab if you'd rather ride. There was more to see and do in San Miguel and vicinity than could possibly be done the week we were there. Another trip is mandatory and I know just where we'll stay. You will love it too.

1st experience a home run
This time with a tour group and husband. Next trip with girlfriends! Six retirees [65-92] had a wonderful experience at this location. We were greeted with our host's 'Award Winning Margaritas' and fresh guacamole. I never knew I wanted to make this drink but with locally frozen lime juice and a blender; the recipe is easy! A beautiful home, great cook, maid, and gardener, plus a congenial expat host...what's not to like?! [My husband especially enjoyed visiting with our host] The menus and food were reasonably priced, servings were generous, and, delicious! We were a short walk to local restaurants, and one of the main streets leading to the Jardin. There are staircases to bedrooms and San Miguel streets are cobblestones. [reasonably priced San Miguel shoes make walking easier] The three cane users in our group managed fairly well. We were a five minute stroll to one of the main streets where it was easy to catch a cab. Our friends asked, "did you feel safe"? A resounding yes! Our residence and town are clean, safe, and with a 10% expat population, very friendly to English speakers. There is so much history in this area which is likened to the 'Boston of Mexico'. We saw so much related to the Mexican Revolution that I returned home wanting to return. I have already started reading to learn more. One week barely scratches the surface. My biggest regret is that I didn't have a cooking lesson with Delores. Cooking is a universal language.

Perfect House, Perfect Location
Our Christmas week in San Miguel could not have been better. From the moment we arrived our host made us feel welcome, serving us his "famous" margaritas and Delores' delicious guacamole.....a perfect beginning to our time in SMA. The house is beautiful and filled with light streaming n from all the wonderful Windows....great patio where we spent quite a lot of time enjoying the perfect weather sipping margaritas. We had great meals that Delores prepared but also found many restaurants in town that were exceptional...."13 Cielos", "The Restaurant", "Antigua Santa Monica", "Hecho en Mexico"....to name a few. Don't miss sunset at the rooftop bar at the Rosewood Hotel...what a few and only a few blocks from the house. We won't hesitate to stay at the house again...the best host ever.

Perfect Host ....Margaritas and Much More!
I have been in San Miguel before; spent months there. This home has EVERYTHING one could want! Not only is the host's home beautiful and comfortable. There are many possible accommodations in S.M. What makes this house the perfect choice (beside its location) is the service offered by the gracious host. All a guest has to do is arrive. Your arrival begins with world class margaritas and guacamole. There is an excellent cook who has worked decades for the host. The cook serves authentic Mexican meals (you choose from an extensive list) if you wish. All shopping, meal preparation, set up, clean up, is her job. The maid, who also has worked for the host for decades, keeps the house spotless, bedrooms/baths done....and all your laundry also. Best of all, however, is the help given by the host. He lives next to the big house and is available for anything/everything you want to know. He provides service to/from any destination you wish in his comfortable VW bus. He was absolutely invaluable to us. He provides 100%+ help
so that your stay is effortless. Quietly, in the background, but always available. He arranged all our transportation from/to the airport. The location of his beautiful home is superb. San Miguel is UNESCO World Heritage site. Glorious, wonderful....and a very steep uphill walk on every cobblestoned street. The host's location is in a private, flat, beautiful area...just 5 minute walk to the main street of San Miguel. Everything one needs in San Miguel is within walking distance. Anything outside San Miguel ask the gracious host for help. We hope to return.
Everyone is our party of 7 was extremely happy with the home, the services and the help.

Far more than a rental property
This elegant and gracious Spanish Colonial was built to the highest standards with large en suite bedrooms, superb closets, gracious public spaces and patios and courtyards. But a few things set it apart. It is a true home that has been well loved and well lived in. In part that is because the owner and host, Jack, lives on the property and raised his family there. He is there to help in any way he can be it arrange for airport pickups, special excursions, advice. He has a staff who have been with him for years, a cook, a housekeeper and a gardener. Daniele, the cook, couldn't be sweeter. She always had a large crock of guacamole at the ready, bowls of fruit salad and she would cook up delicious classic meals from a list of suggested menus. Your host will do all the shopping. And he is the maestro of margaritas. He ensures that the freezer is stocked with containers of his special base recipe. I stayed in the casita, a former, airy art studio with a private bath that overlooks the courtyard and is separate from the main house. As far a host goes, he has it down. He lives on the property. He's readily available, but he doesn't hover. He also happens to be an interesting and enjoyable American who has lived in SMA for over 30 years. The house is in a charming private area and a ten minute walk from the Jardin. It's very close to the Instituto, the original art school and language school. And the house borders a very pretty park "dog park" which is very congenial for man and canine alike. Many of the dog owners are ex pats so its fun to chat with them. All told, our stay couldn't have been more comfortable.

Lovely stay in beautiful San Miguel
This exceptional property is in an ideal location for walking to the central areas of San Miguel. The house and courtyard are lovely, clean and comfortable. But what makes this property so special is the exceptional service of the owner and his staff. The owner can, upon arrangement, pick you up from the airport and also take you on tours of neighboring areas. It is so lovely to have a car and driver provided. The owner is well versed in the local history, is a great story teller, and a great tour guide. The cook is also wonderful. She can prepare some or all of your meals for you. Her cooking is exceptional. Her guacamole is amazing!!! The owner's margaritas are some of the best we have ever had. Overall the experience here is amazing -- much more than just a great rental, the owner makes it a great experience. The owner also is available as you need him, but never intrusive and he is happy not be involved at all if that is your preference. I would recommend this lovely home to anyone.

Top Notch Vacation!
My family and I traveled to San Miguel this past Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time at this property. What sets this home apart from other rental properties is the owner and the staff. You will not be wanting for anything. Have a question? Just ask the owner who has lived there for 40 years. Have a certain craving for some kind of Mexican dish for breakfast or dinner/lunch? By the next day, we were always served exactly what we had asked for and the food was delicious! The owner makes a mean margarita which was always a treat to come home to as well. The house was perfect for the 6 of us with each party having their own private space, yet lots of room for social gathering too. My children completely enjoyed the pool table and the ping pong table and the video library was great for late night movie watching. The flat walk to the main square is also wonderful as many other properties have very steep hills to climb. If you want the perfect vacation home, look no further. We completely enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend this property!

A home away from home
This was our second stay at 1 Gracia in San Miguel and no doubt we will visit again. The lovely home is large, inviting and full of Mexican charm. We were greeted with margaritas and guacamole on the patio the evening we arrived- what a wonderful welcome to gracious living. Our host provided transportation to other areas we wanted to visit as well as transport to the Leon airport. There is a fantastic cook who will prepare anything you would like and a housekeeper as well. Each of these people very unobtrusive. We would highly recommend this property.

We have recently enjoyed our winter holiday in this lovely home for the 7th time. Great central location. The house is wonderfully set up for two couples, each having their own separate bedroom and bathroom. A lovely, private, flower filled courtyard welcomes visitors with casual outdoor dining opportunities and relaxation space. The views from the rooftop provide great vistas to watch evening sunsets and morning hot air balloon soar-bys. Our host's thoughtful attention to detail is always greatly appreciated.

Amazing location, amazing host
Three of us stayed in this house for 10 days. Our host greeted us with margaritas (his award winning recipe!) and guacamole when we arrived. He gently assisted us with all of our hundreds of questions with genuine ease and friendliness. His supportive presence was a huge asset to our first visit to San Miguel. The house is also in a perfect location. Its in a quiet neighborhood next to a small park but accessible to everything in the city. Our host also took us on a tour of nearby Guanajuato. It made such a huge difference to have him guide us through the city. We had a great time with him. We will all go back and look forward to more of those special welcome margaritas!
