It enjoys complete privacy with a 6 foot high stucco wall, gates, and tall hedges and trees. The landscape was carefully designed for our guests to enjoy the most exotic and colorful array of succulents and tropical flowers; evoking the sense that you are living in a Botanical Garden. The 4,000 square foot home is on one level, and located centrally on 1.2 acres. With its 13 foot pitched beam ceiling and no two walls parallel, the acoustics of this room are outstanding. Enjoy your favorite music in warmth and openness. This room quickly converts to a large open area great for yoga, dance, or game area. The built-in wet bar makes entertaining easy. French doors open into verandas and gardens. A large faux-stone fireplace warms the dining room also. A skylight provides natural daytime illumination.__The gourmet kitchen is a chef's dream (and a private chef is available upon request). The California Hacienda style affords privacy to its occupants with bedrooms at each end of the house, or the master suite far away from an entertainment room or study. The master suite features a fireplace and private patio; another gateway to the aromatic gardens. All of the rooms have pitched beamed ceilings for an open and airy feeling throughout. __The property is located walking distance to the famous Hendry's beach (a local's favorite with a nice restaurant), the Douglas Family Preserve, and it is next door to the elite estates of Hope Ranch. __Casa das Palmas offers the perfect private sanctuary to which you will look forward to returning year after year.

Amazingly beautiful backyard

July 13, 2014

The home is very quiet and feels secluded. Yet only a one minute drive to the beach. The backyard is exquisite. Beautiful trees which provided just enough shade. Yet plenty of sunshine as well. My family enjoyed tennis, basketball, ping pong an enormous grass area and lovely saltwater pool and spa. Which had a child safety cover. We were close enough to many amenities in Santa Barbara. The Zoo, State Street for shopping and beaches. However, we felt very content many days to just enjoy the privacy of the yard and some quality family time.

Owner's reply:

Dear Polly,
Thank you so much for your kind review. It was very nice having you and your family at Casa das Palmas!
Looking forward to your return.
Warm regards,
Vivi and Chris

At the beginning everything was kind of OK, if we ignore Vivi's negligences. She rented the house for a whole week wedding and intended to clean it up in only 5 hours prior our arrival. Of course the house was in poor conditions and some parts certainly disgusting. It took us a week to clean it up and fix it completely but we didn't complained because she seems like a really nice and laid back lady. Big mistake, she was just pulling the string. Her sons and boyfriend starting leaving their cars in the front yard and she was never available when needed. Always claimed to be in spiritual cleanings, retreats and healings. At the end of the period she didn't show up to check and received the house back (which was in clear better conditions as when we received it) and took weeks to be found by mail, since she never again answer the phone. Out of the U$7,000 deposit fee, she only returned me U$1,784 claiming ridiculous things that were damaged or dirty before we even got there. The car was a mess and she is trying to fix it now out of the deposit. Walls were cracked and she's trying to do the same thing. I'm trying to get an attorney for this, but for the people out there, read all the reviews before renting, she's not what she looks like. I talked to the other guy from Chile who rented the house and he said he had to deduct the fee deposit from the last payment so the balance was U$0 when he left the house, because somehow he knew he was not going to get his money back. I wish I would have used that strategy. Bottom line, be aware, look for other house. This one will ruin your time there

Having made a last minute decision to have a beach family gathering I was realistically not keeping expectations high about finding a place to suit all my needs. This place was everything I could have wished for. The property was inviting from the moment we passed through the gates. The kitchen provided everything for the gathering spot, well equiped, spacious, lots of windows, plenty of seating to visit, couldn't of asked for more there. Beds were numerous [10 of us], and bedding very nice. The grounds provided lots of options for activity for everyone and the gardens were lovely. The neighborhood is a collection of older long established country dwellers with their fruit trees, gardens and animals. I know there was a horse next door but never did distinguish the other animal sounds and I was raised on a farm. The beach, my favorite part. 2 minutes drive down the hill. Would have walked but the road is narrow, curvy and there isn't enough room along the side to safely walk. At the beach there is ample parking, a restaurant that's always hopping, and the best part for me was the long beach where dogs are allowed off leash. That to me was the best part since my dog is a very important factor in my life. All in all a great trip. I could pick out details such as the house is a bit dated, etc., etc., but those things are quite inconseqential to me. It was a lovely home and I felt fortunate to have the opportunity to hand my hat there for a week and enjoy Santa Barbara. The hammocks strung outside along the back patios are beckoning me......... Thank You for the stay. Susan and dog Teton
