Description of the Santa Maria del Oro vacation cabin rental
Situated close to the beautiful Santa Maria del Oro crater lake and surrounded by mountains, it is in a convenient location to visit lakes, waterfalls, volcanoes and explore places of great natural beauty, plus it is only 50 minutes by road to Tepic, the capital of Nayarit; 2 hours to Guadalajara, 3 hours to Puerto Vallarta, and 2 hours to San Blas.

Air conditioned, fully furnished bungalow, brick built with boveda roof, has one double bed, TV with home theatre and DVD player, internet access via HughesNet satelite system, separate kitchen, bathroom, terrace and adjoining shade house with pool table. Kitchen has a refrigerator, stove with oven, microwave, coffee maker and all essential appliances. The house is surrounded by landscaped gardens that slope down to a stream, with ponds, and shade houses (one with a fusball) many flowering plants, bushes and trees.

The house is small but it is situated in about 1 acre of gardens and it is ideal for persons who wish to have peace and quiet and who like to be in contact with nature. There is a great variety of birds and butterflies here and it is very relaxing.

Area Information
Located In West-Central Mexico, near the Laguna de Santa Maria del Oro, an unspoilt crater lake about 2 km in diameter at an altitude of 730 meters. The lake is surrounded by steep forested mountains that rise about 300m above the lake. Winter weather is normally sunny and dry, with temperatures more moderate than at the coast. This area is off the beaten path and is ideal for those who appreciate natural beauty and peace and quiet. The area abounds in birds and butterflies. There is easy walking around the lake and more challenging hiking in the surrounding mountains. It is 50km SE of Tepic, 210km NE of Puerto Vallarta and 190km NW of Guadalajara. It is 20km via a good paved road from the turnoff to Santa Maria del Oro at km 195 on the main highway Mex15 between Tepic and Guadalajara.
Day trips can be made to a variety of nearby places of interes such as the Ceboruco volcano, the picturesque colonial town of Jala, the archaeological zone of Los Toriles at Iztlan del Rio, the Agua Milpa dam, the Cajon dam, and Tepic, capital of Nayarit.
I can arrange hikes and horsback rides to nearby waterfalls and scenic viewpoints and overnight excursions to the historic fort of San Blas, including the famous jungle cruise, or Puerto Vallarta, or Santiago Ixcuintla and the unique island village of Mexcaltitan.
