Description of the Santa Rosa Beach vacation home rental
Tucked in amongst palms, magnolias and oaks in world famous "Old Grayton Beach" sits Casa Sombra, a beautiful architect designed retreat for the discriminating beach traveler. This "shady house" is a stunning home located in historic Old Grayton Beach about 300 yards from the white, sugar sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and the assortment of shops and restaurants that make up the funky and eclectic Grayton Beach.

This beach house is beautifully decorated with lots of local, colorful artwork to excite the senses and stimulate the imagination. It has its own private pool, that can be heated, and an outdoor fireplace set amongst the indigenous tropical vegetation. Two identical master suites, one on each level, have access to their own outdoor porches overlooking the pool area.

There are four bedrooms with an additional space set aside for a daybed off the upstairs den (children only). The bedrooms include two kings, a queen, a pair of bunk beds, and a day bed, sleeping 11 people total. Sorry, no pets are allowed and there is no smoking.

The house has an elegant, spacious feel with high ceilings, complimented with ceiling fans and specially designed lighting to accent key spaces and the colorful artwork. Heart pine floors adorn the major living areas and the kitchen is equipped with Wolf and Subzero appliances and the finest cookware for even the most accomplished chef. Casa Sombra also has surround sound stereo speakers located throughout the house, and also outside speakers in the back of the house overlooking the pool.

There is plenty of space to move about with almost 3,000 square feet of interior space and an additional 1,400 square feet of covered porches for outdoor living. From the upstairs porch, there are tranquil views of Western Lake. Ample terrace space is provided for comfortable pool lounging. Two families can easily enjoy the house, yet maintain their own measured degree of privacy.

Bordered by two state parks, one which includes Western Lake, an excellent natural preserve for kayaking, fishing and crabbing, Grayton Beach has long been recognized as one of the finest beaches in the world. The town of Grayton Beach, founded in 1890, is one of the oldest planned beach communities in Florida's gulf coast and has been recognized by Florida's Governor and Cabinet as a Florida "treasure".

Located on Highway 30A, between Destin and Panama City Beach, there is plenty to do within a short distance. Shopping, amusement parks, several superb golf courses, tennis, fishing, and other water sports are all close by as are many excellent restaurants. Bring or rent bikes and enjoy the bike trail that links the nearby coastal communities of Seaside, Watercolor, Seagrove and Rosemary Beach.

We book our house Saturday to Saturday during the weekly peak spring break and summer periods. Additional charges include: Pool heating and Outdoor Gas fireplace extra charge- $40/day or $220/week.

Area Information
Grayton Beach is a state of mind. Our town is a funky little beach town full of free-spirited folks with a laid-back attitude. The narrow roads are shaded by southern magnolias, towering pines and moss-draped oaks. The salt air is ever present and so is the fine white sand covering the worn floors of our old beach cottages.

The town of Grayton Beach is mostly nestled inside Grayton Beach State Park and spreads right down to the beach and the Gulf of Mexico. Ahhh - the beach! Named as the most beautiful beach in America by "Dr. Beach" - it's wide and clean and a genuine piece of paradise. Just off the beach you'll find the famous Red Bar - a must visit for all our visitors - great food, drinks, music and an interior decor you have to see to believe.

On the beach you can relax and watch families play where Western Lake kisses the Gulf, sometimes opening and exchanging salt and fresh water. Wildlife and fish are abundant. Heading out right from the beach every day are the boats and captains that make up the Grayton Beach fishing charters known by locals as the "Mosquito Fleet".

Grayton Beach is the heart and soul of South Walton County - a diverse string of beach towns including Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Seagrove, Seaside, WaterColor, Blue Mountain and Sandestin. Almost half the land in South Walton is protected as state forest and state parks. Grayton Beach is a comfy place with quaint historic cottages next door to modern beach homes. It's an eclectic beach burg with good times, picket fences, funky art, and great dining & shopping. When you walk down one of Grayton Beach's well-worn roads, you get the feeling things haven't changed much in the last hundred-plus years since the town's founding.

Grayton Beach's unofficial slogan: "Nice Dogs, Strange People".
