Description from owner

The Gull House is completely secluded, you will not see another building, only the rocks, ocean, birds, seals and surf. Our guests tell us they love the feel of the house - its unique privacy, spectacular view, complete kitchen, telescope, hot tub, and first class housekeeping.

A comment from our guests:

"At 33 years of marriage, living overseas doing a lot of traveling, not many places can top this. Hot tub was great. This whole experience was even more than we expected and we are hard to please." Curt & Mary Jo, Ashland, Oregon

Located just cross the street from the Seal Rocks you are a short walk from the beach where the tide pools, during low tide are magnificent. The sea life is so abundant in this area that the biologists from the Hatfield Marine Science Center come here to collect their specimens. The seals love to sun themselves here on the rocks; binoculars and a spotting scope are available for your convenience.

We offer a full kitchen, high quality linens and many extra amenities; we have put attention to all the small details to make your memories truly remarkable.

A note about children: Children are welcome at the Gullhouse. Although we enjoy a fabulous in-your-face ocean view, and the house is visually protected by a small bluff and vegetation, a two-lane highway must be crossed in order to reach the beach. (Expect some traffic noise.)There are a number of beach access areas close-by that will accommodate your family vehicle where children don't cross a busy road. Please be aware of this hazard before you book.

Beds: 2 King Beds, 1 Sofa Bed, 1 Crib

About the area

Seal Rock is a small Lincoln County community along Highway 101, just south of Newport. These "Seal rocks" form a ledge of partially submerged rocks in the Pacific Ocean surfline. They extend parallel to the coast for about two and a half miles at a distance of a half mile from the beach. The highest rock rises about 20 feet out of the water. There is one large rock at the shoreline and many smaller ones. The place was called Seal Illahe, Chinook for seal home or seal place. Seal Rock's first post office was established April 25, 1890, with postmaster J. W. Brasfield running things. Seal Rock was at one time a popular resort destination. Bottom Fishing, muscle harvesting and clamming are very productive here at Seal Rock. There are antique shops, woodcarvers' galleries and other specialty shops. Recreation. Visitors enjoy beachcombing, agate hunting, surfcasting, rock fishing and observing sea life in the tidepools offshore. There are several turnouts along the highway and at Seal Rock State Park. The Gull House is located just south of Seal Rock State Park and is within walking distance.

“Christmas at the GullHouse”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2016

We originally booked four nights and then stayed one more! That pretty much sums up our don't want to leave!! If I could imagine a more perfect retreat I would likely still choose this one. The view alone is deserving of five stars but I want to add in that the house is really a home while you're there. Only once did I catch myself thinking "I wish I'd bought" and that was with the sound system that I could not get to work. Peace, quiet, privacy and spectacular views made this a great vacation. The house, hot tub and all round comfort made it even better. Thank you to Debi and Rob for providing everything we needed with great care and attention to detail. All the best for 2017 !

Great home and area for nice, quiet getaway. Secluded and private home in very small community, yet within 10 minutes of two larger cities. Went to 'get away' from the rat race. Could not have pick a better house and area to do so! Enjoyed every minute... booked 3-nights... stayed 5-nights and would have liked to stay longer. Hope to do it again next year!!!

Owner's reply: There is NOTHING that makes an owner feel better than the guest loving the house so much that they ask for extra days! We were pleased to accommodate you and delighted that you enjoyed your stay. I got reports of whale sightings from the house this morning! We hope to hear from you again.

“Very relaxing stay”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2012

We absolutely loved the privacy of this place, the view was great, the hot tub was relaxing (and not too hot so it was tempting to spend hours in it staring at the ocean), the king size bed was comfy, and it felt like Debi and Rob had thought of everything to accommodate their guests. We would definitely stay here again, and the location of the house was great - close to Newport, and not too far from Florence either. Loved it - thanks Debi and Rob for letting us stay!

Outstanding location so private. Beautiful views from the deck that you won't want to leave and move in. Speaking of moving in there is absolutely nothing you need to bring other than your suitcase for this rental. Everything and I mean everything is already there. Loved the area so centrally located to all of the Oregon Coast. Owners were absolutely delightful to deal with very helpful. There are 100's of brochures, books etc. with what all there is to do in Oregon Coast and surrounding area which helped a lot. Peaceful nights sleep with very comfortable bed. You can't go wrong with this rental if you are seeking a very private location and outstanding views.

“Loved this place!!”

The house was perfect for our bridal weekend! The deck and hot tub were just perfect and we spent most of our time soaking up the sun on the deck listening to music. The house was stocked with all the things you could need and was the perfect size. The view was unbeatable!

“What a View!”

Reviewed 25 Feb 2012

There are so many extras there that whatever you forgot - they'll have it! It was windy & raining for 2 of our 3 days, but with the view from the family room, you feel like you're getting a real show. It was very comfortable, and king size beds were a plus! The kitchen suited a cook like my sis-in-law and the dining table was comfortably large. The seclusion from neighbors and plenty of deck space, would make it an ideal summer location for sun-worshipers.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Gull House. The views were amazing and it really felt like we were the only ones around. The hot tub was the highlite of the trip, with amazing sunset views and they even provided robes! The house was fully stocked and made us feel at home. Wondeful experience!

Our stay at the Gullhouse was one of the best vacations we've ever had. The location is fabulous - private and quiet. The view is unparalleled. The house is very nice and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We loved our stay here and look forward to coming back again and again. The owners, Debi and Rob, are extremely nice and accomodating, and have provided a wonderful retreat for those of us who have the misfortune of still living in the city! A total getaway - you won't be disappointed.

The gull house is a great vacation getaway. The house is private and overlooks a beautiful section of beach. The hot tub is perfect for viewing a sunset and the house is well equipped and very clean. It is an excellent place to escape the busy life and to slow down and listen to the earth...

“Quiet Time”

Reviewed 15 May 2009

We call ourselves "The Traveling Forks". Two couples in their 50's looking for something out of the ordinary. We found it at the Gull House. No one around, ocean views galore, and yes, we saw a couple of whales. The owners are definitely proud of their beach house because it shows in every room. The guys thought that not having a TV wouldn't work, but we played several games and never missed it. We truly enjoyed ourselves.

We love the privacy and the beautiful ocean view. The house has been very comfortable, with everything you could want or need at every turn. Comfortable bed with nice fluffy bedding. What a wonderful weekend it's been! Friday was beautiful with some sunshine and perfect picture taking weather, then we woke Saturday to high seas and wind. The wild waves crashing on the rocks were awesome. Your place is comfortable, quiet and private. A perfect getaway. Thanks for sharing it. The view couldn't have been better. Jeanene & Clark, Corvallis, OR

What a wonderful stay we had - wish it could have been longer. Very comfortable beds, all the amenities we could want and a gorgeous view. Must try dinner at Quimby's in Newport - fabulous food! Thanks! Debbie and Richard, Concord, CA 2/08

We really enjoyed our stay here - what a great view!!! Enjoyed the wine and seafood feast & overall had a great weekend. Thanks again for your hospitality. Dean, Tonya, Silvia, Wendi, Gene & Virginia, Corvallis, OR 2/08

Our family drove out from Wyoming. It was the first time our girls got to see the ocean. We couldn't have picked a better place. We saw seals and starfish from the windows the first morning and went down to investigate. The area attractions were fine, but our family had the most fun walking and exploring the beaches. We'd like to come back someday. Heather, Robb, Avery and Elaina 5/08 Wyoming

I very much enjoyed the view and the hot tub! It's a very cozy place with lots of character. Thanks, Cynthia Portland OR 4/08

What a wonderful weekend! We had rain, snow, hail and clear sunny skies in the span of 2 days. I had the beach to myself most mornings. It's lovely to be so close to Newport but away from the crowds. The hot tub and view are spectacular. Michelle 4/08 Portland

The place really looks nice. We had a great weekend. Your view has to be one of the best on the Coast. We didn't see any whales this time, but we did see a seal pup on the beach. Thanks for sharing this special place. Carl & Ileana 5/08 Portland

We enjoyed our stay very much at the Gull House. The view is certainly wonderful. To listen to the surf at night is very relaxing. Oregon is a beautiful state. Than you for sharing your treasure. Al & Shiela, St Louis, MO 6/08

Had a great time! Awesome view. Had everything we needed. Thanks! Karie & Jason, Portland 3/08

We can't express how great our stay was at your beach house! Although the towns off Newport and Lincoln City were swarming with"spring breakers" we were blessed with the cozy, quiet that your place provided - everything was perfect for us and although we did miss having TV it was a real treat to get away from it all! Thanks for your great directions and attention to all of the details. We believe this could become a yearly tradition. Lisa & Dave, Macon GA and Bill, Medford OR 3/08

God Bless you both for sharing this little bit of "Heaven on Earth" with us! It was truly more than we could have hoped for...the perfect place to spend our belated honeymoon! It also created a spark within us to possibly move to Oregon and for that we say ... GOD BLESS YOU BOTH! Scott and Janis 6/2008

Thanks for sharing your home with us! We will be dreaming of this in the Texas heat. We had a great time. Larry and Karen, Burleson,TX 7/08

Thank you for sharing your place with us. Your home is very beautiful and welcoming! Everything we could want is here - and more. We are all very comfortable here and are not looking forward to the Denver heat! While we were here we saw the sea lion caves, tide pools everyday, 3 light houses, sand dunes (I survived the dune buggy ride!) and the aquarium in Newport. I got the most enjoyment in the time spent here at the house. God Bless. The Garcias, Lakewood CO 7/08

This was just the perfect place for us to relax, even for only a few days. The interior decoration and the outside environment blend so well. We enjoyed little details like red/orange mushrooms along the lovely path, tan or silvery slugs down at the beach; chickadees and flycatchers flitting in and out of the feeders...
The view is, of course, spectacular. Nothing beats waking up to a view like that with the gulls & pelicans gracing the sky while waves crash onto rocks. Thank you. Glenda Oct 2008

We had a most enjoyable weekend. The weather was perfect. We truly enjoyed watching the seals on the rocks. The eagle few by for us several times. Your home is most comfy! The view beyong beautiful! We couldn't count all the pelicans, though we tried several times. Thank you for sharing all this with us. I can't think of a more wonderful place to be. A piece of Heaven on Earth! McMullin Sisters Oct 2008

We arrived Friday after dark and didn't realize till morning how close to the beach it was. The view is beyond beautiful, it's breathtaking. That night my husband kept trying to turn down the heat to get rid of the noise. He finally realized that the noise was the surf, not the heater. The noise took on a whole new meaning after that! We mostly relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful view, gresat decor and homey atmosphere around here. To say we had a pleasant stay is an understatement! Thank you for sharing and supplying EVERYTHING, even qtips and movies and spices! Val & Jenell, Battle Ground, WA 10/08

We got so lucky re weather; every day was sunny & beautiful. At one point I was looking for the porch light switch so I could turn off the light, only to realize it was the moon. The pelicans and eagles were so wonderful to see. We even got to watch the Coast Guard rescue a disabled boat; the telescope really was nice so we could watch all the action. We were disappointed we didn't see any seals, but on the last day they graced us with their presence, ther were several sunning on the rocks. We enjoyed the hot tub & never got around to using the jaccuzi tub in the bathroom. You have done a nice job with the new carpet, sky lights, etc. What a cozy home you have. Thank you so much for sharing. Richard,Gloria,Debra & Jerry, Vancouver WA 11/08

What a fabulous home with an unbelievable view. We had a truly enjoyable stay, and loved the whole "Oregon Coast" feel and experience. We were treated to a terrific winter storm with great high tides and storm surge. Our rain jackets got a workout. The house was all we could have asked for, very comfortable, warm and quiet.

The hot tub was also very well used, but with hats on during the rainy times. Thanks so much,
Scott & Christine, BC Canada 11/08

What privacy and yet a view that everyone would come running to see - We especially loved our night under the stars (in the hot tub, of course!) The clarity and brilliance was amazing - no clouds. At least for one night - your generosity with your home & sharing of all your provisions was amazing - SO well stocked - Thanks! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - And hopefully will return.

Happy New Year to us! We had a wonderful relaxing time in your cozy home. Weather was typical for coastal winter weather...cold and rainy, but the hot tub was greatly appreciated! I will always have fond New Year's memories.

Thanks for a wonderful place to relax & enjoy! So nice to have alll the "little" touches that make a stay special. We felt so at home.

Loved the spa-even with 70mph winds & stinging rain in our faces. Quite bracing! Can't believe the view and the "invisibility". We loved it.

Video selection is great- you really have gone the extra mile to make Gullhouse fabulous!

We left the confusion, dust, mess of a remodel and came to the perfect, restful - peaceful spot. We even called home and stayed an extra day. Thank you for sharing your special spot with us. We loved everything and really enjoyed the tips from Rob on places to see and eat. We will be back - soon! Terry & JoAnn, Portland 1/2009

WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!! Went to the aquarium Saturday. On the way back to the house Zac suggested we stop at South Beach and take a walk on the beach. He needed to change shoes so I went ahead without him. When he walked up behind me I heard him fumbling with something. I turned around and he was down on one knee and he asked me to marry him!!! Ahhh!!! I said "YES!" South Beach and this beautiful house will always be near and dear to my heart, because it's where the love of my life asked to spend the rest of his life with me. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful hde-away with us. I couldn't ask for more! Sasha & Zac -engaged Jan 31, 2009

Coming from snow & no powoer in the Sierra Foothills of California to Seal Rock. Wine tasting from Portland the sun splashed us this morning and we soak it up! Begin with a hot tub, the Green Salmon in Yachats provided tasty coffee & snacks. We went to the Seal Caves - th seals have really bad fish breath! Later, off to walk seal rock beach. Gorgeous abslutely perfect day! Took lots of pictures, ate lots of great food in Depoe Bay (The Tidal Rave) more fabulous views! Back to soak in the hot tub and snack on cheese & cracker delicacies. We are blessed by mother nature and feel like cats in cream! Jenny, Linda & Stephanie Feb 2009

Second time staying here. Enjoyed the addition of the telescope. Had all sorts of weather...thunder, lightning, hail, wind, sun. Didn't get to see any eagles or whales, but did see seals, birds and maing tidepools! (tide was scheduled at 0.0) Hot tub was great! At night the sky would switch from stars to rain to rain falling from stars. It's just as hard to leave this time as it was last time. Thanks again for sharing your lovely home. Janet & Mike, Vancouver, WA 2/09

Loved the Gull House...looking back just realized we never left since we arrived. Great view, hear the ocean at night, view of the moon with possible saturn nearby with a comet trailing just below!! I witnessed why Seal Rock is thusly named...beheld seals on the rockds, beautiful cute and plump. There is an interesting shell graveyard on the beach along the cliffs. And spectcular waves to spend hours watching.. thanks for your hospitality, we will be back! Nico & Gayle, Portland, OR 2/09

Thank you so much for the priviledge of staying in your beautiful home. The view is absolutely amazing! Just sitting here listening to the ocean and looking out the window brings you a sense of calm and peace. It's exactly what we needed before starting a tough week. We will definitely be back and make sure to tell our friends!! Melissa and Randy, Newberg, OR 2/09

We had a great stay here. The windy, rainy storm made it even more great. We were warm and cozy all night. The ipod dock worked out especially well as did the proximity to the beach. We will forever remember this house as it is now our engagement site. We stood on the first rock fars side of the highway as we were almost blown away, with all of our rain gear on and both said "YES"!

Thank you and yours for helping provide our special memories. Annie & Damien, Portland, March 2009

We absolutely loved the Gullhouse! It had all of the comforts of home with an amazing view, beach access, and private hot tub. The place is fully stocked and we can tell you've put a lot of thought into the comfort of your guests...thank you! This vacation was great! Such a wonderful time to get away from the hustle and bustle and have some very much needed R&R. This is our second year returning to the Gullhouse & it will not be our last. We revisited the Oregon Aquarium, but other than that, we watched tv and hung out at the beach. We were invited to a glass blowing shop after hours to watch how glass was made, that was fun & a total fluke that it happened. Now we are really interested in taking a class or two! Overall great experience. Dinner at Georgies was just as yummy as last year. Thank you so much for everything! -July 2009

We had a lovely time - beautiful scenery - privacy - we loved it all. Our friends had a new grandaughter right before we came and my husband's sister passsed away right after we arrived - so this was a lovely place to celebrate lives in all ways. We REALLY enjoyed our stay at your house. The view was so beautiful, we even saw seals out on one of the rocks. The sunsets were beautiful, too. My husband & I came to Oregon many (20) years ago. We were so eager to come back, and this time with our girls - who were not born last time we were here. It was their first visit to the ocean. They were very excited. We loved the tide pools, seeing seals and sea lions, interacting with an octopus at the marine center. We celebrated my birthday, it was the best one ever! We went to one of the glassblowing shops and I made a starfish, it was so awesome! Thank you for providing such a nice place to stay, and for all your help in directions and advice on places to go. It was nice to have the convenience of home on a vacation. The hot tub was such a nice bonus seeing as we weren't brave enough to swim at the beach! Thank you for the wonderfully relaxing weekend - twas much needed. Special thanks to the ocean and sky for continually providing "conversation" that was more or less impossible to ignore!
The hot tub was wonderfully hot, and the kitchen provided everything we needed to not destroy any meals--and that is a lot when I cook! Mike & Adrienne, Portland, OR November 2009

What a dellightful weekend we spent in your lovely home. It was so easy to make ourselves at home, "We girls" enjoyed sitting in the living room, sharing & reminescing while watching the ever-changing view. Good meals, games, lots of laughter.

It was a special time for us and we thank you for providing the special place. Cathy, Linda, Mary & Mom, November 2009 ps. Amazing tide pools! What fun!

Great place! Stormy weather! Love the hot tub (very hot!) and the king size bed & the awesome views! Thanks for a wonderful stay and the anniversary bottle of wine! Maggie & Kelly, Salem, OR - November 2009

Wow, we come to Newport 3-4 times a year to visit family. We have stayed in many rentals. But this one far exceeds them all. What a fabulous holiday. We will be back. Dec 2009

Another GREAT stay at Gullhouse!

Of all the beach houses we've rented, this is the most welcoming and comfortable. Scott, Karen & Susan 1/2010

The place is wonderful. Relaxing was our main goal and this was just the ticket. Hot tub was great, the house has everything you need. We were lucky enough to see whales one morning. Sea Caves were a big hit also. We will come again for sure. DeDe & Robin 1/2010 Seattle, WA

We had a great time and a fantastic view! We enjoyed the whale watching equipment and the hot tub! Anna & Will, Eugene 3/22/10

Thank you for sharing your cozy little spot! We came to celebrate our 14th anniversary and it was the perfect excuse to lounge and be lazy. We had less sunshine and more "liquid sun" than we hoped, but it was still so relaxing to watch the squalls blow through. The hot tub was great, even in the drizzle! Todd & Julie, Portland 3/20/10

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Gullhouse. Weather was great. The house is well equipped & comfortable with great views of the ocean. We saw the seals on the rocks and a bald eagle. We didn't see any whales at the house but we saw two on a whale watching trip from Newport. A great home - sorry to leave. Graham, Ian & Oliver 3/17/10

Came from Vancouver, USA, can't believe it was 60 & sunny, no wind. What an awesome day. Sean

The view and viewing spots from the house were perfection. This was such an awesome little gem that we were fortunate enough to find! Tiffany

Incredible views! The location is perfect. A view with plenty to do. The weather is incredible, which is an unexpected delight. This was a good choice. Neil

Having an amazing time with no kids! Great house and views. Christy 2/19/10

This is our second trip to Gullhouse and it couldn't have been more perfect! The weather was mild for this time of year. Soaking in the hot tub under the stars into the wee hours. All had a fantastic weekend holiday. Thank you so much for sharing this little piece of heaven with us. Rob, Dawn, Dominic & Ania

Thanks for the use of your comfy home. The view doesn't get any better. The Smiths 1/25/10
