Description of the Seal Rock vacation home rental
Located approximately 5 miles North of Waldport just off Highway 101, the Captain's Cabin is a spacious and nicely furnished get-a-way of approximately 1150 square feet. The Captain's Cabin is decorated with our personal nautical and collectible memorabilia. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths (one with shower, one with tub). One bedroom has a queen-size bed with firm Beauty Rest mattress and the other has one twin bed a double futon (blankets and pillows are provided). There is also a hide-a-bed sofa in the den so that up to 6 people can be accommodated very comfortably. The dining area offers great views of the pounding surf and is equipped with a dining table that seats 6 and built in hutch. The hutch contains assorted puzzles and games.. A washer and dryer are located behind the curtains in the den area, which adjoins the kitchen. A convenient breakfast bar with 2 chairs separates the kitchen from the den area. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, cookware, and silverware, as well as a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, & more. The living room has a 25" remote-controlled color TV with more than 30 cable channels, as well as a DVD/VCR player. Each bedroom has a TV with remote and DVD player. There are 3 large picture windows in the living room/dining area, 2 of which provide fantastic views of the ocean, crashing waves, and the large volcanic rock formations which this unique area is noted for. There is now a corner electric fireplace in the living room, where you can sit and watch the huge wave action in the wintertime. A large deck (550 square foot) wraps around three sides of the home and provides some of the best ocean views in the area; the deck has an outside dining table & 4 chairs. We've decided not to install a phone in the cabin, but cell phone reception is possible from the front deck.
Please note that there is a minimum 5 night stay for this rental.
Although the beach is just across the Highway, the easiest beach access is across the highway and about 1 block north. On the way, you can see the remains of ancient Indian shell middens (mounds). The beach below the cabin has magnificent tidal pools and the clamming can be outstanding on low tides, providing the beds are not "sanded-in" and you know the right technique. Whale watching generally occurs between late September and early June, but many of our guests report seeing whales at all times of the year, and often every day of their stay. Seals can almost always be spotted in the surf or sunning themselves during low tide on the small muffin-shaped rock located almost straight out from the cabin. Crabbing can be experienced in the Alsea Bay, just 5 miles south at Waldport. Fishing is available by deep sea charter boats out of Newport, just 12 miles north. Not to be overlooked is the Aquarium at Newport, which has already earned a reputation as one of the finest on the west coast. Just 1 mile south of Yachats is Cape Perpetua, the highest point on the Oregon Coast; the Forest Service has a fascinating visitor's center there with free movies and exhibits, as well as hiking trails that offer spectacular views of the coast.
