Description from owner

Go local, enjoy the relaxed life in a Portuguese village near the sea. So much more than any resort can offer at a great value! The house is just 45 minutes North of Lisbon airport. Situated above the historic town of Serra d'El Rey, and near Baleal, Obidos and Praia D'el Rey. Truly unique and local experience.

To make you feel at home-away-from-home the house is decorated with lovely antiques, original art and Portuguese ceramics. Internet is available and the kitchen is fitted with modern amenities, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee brewer and washer/dryer.

Each of the rooms have beautiful wood windows, providing light, fresh air and remain private and extremely comfortable. The neighbors are friendly and helpful and you can walk to village centre to eat or shop in a minute. Serra d"El Rey boasts interesting shops, many restaurants, cafes and bars, small grocery stores and bank with ATM.

I've also provided board games, maps, guide books, a shelf of books for reading, cards, puzzles and satellite TV with English, French and Portuguese stations.

Beds: 1 Queen Bed, 2 Twin Beds, 1 Sofa Bed

About the area

Spend your days at magnificent white sand beaches, golfing at five star Praia D'el Rey Marriott Resort, fishing in Piniche or enjoy wandering the walled city of Obidos, visit the farmers market of Caldas d Rainha, cloisters of Tomar and other historic sites easily from my home just off the IP6 and A8. And, a great base for looking for property on the Silver Coast. Dozens of beaches are within 5-10 minute drive, the surfing beach at Baleal (fabulous!), Praia d'El Rey and the Obidos Lagoon. The freshest seafood in Portugal can be found in this region and consumed while sitting at the edge of the sea watching the sun set. Castles and palaces aplenty, lip-smacking wine, and beaches where you can laze for days. Recommended historic destinations within 1 hours drive include; Peniche, Obidos, Mafra, Nazare, Alcobaca, Caldas da Rainha, Fatima, Sintra, Tomar, Lisbon and a bit further the Roman ruins of Conimbriga, Bucacco and Coimbra.

“Great location - village, not plastic touristland”

Reviewed 12 Feb 2015

I never like staying in tourist meccas: I found this place (nestled in an old village, but 3 minutes from the Motorway) to be a perfect base to explore the shore (Baleal, Peniche, Praia del Rey) and endless cultural gems. Obidos is just a few minutes away, and Lisbon itself is less than an hour's drive. Walk around the village and the nearby parkland hills, topped with modern windmills. The house has a spacious kitchen/dining area, two full bedrooms quite separated for privacy, each with its own toilet/shower. Sofabed in the living room (we didn't use it). A nice little private patio, too. The wireless internet worked pretty well for me. I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to feel like they are in Portugal, and not Yet Another mass-produced condo in a development.
