It was really a fluke that I selected this beautiful and well maintained cabin. But we are sure happy that we did decide this was the place. If you want a place that is close enough to all the activities, but well outside the touristy areas of Pigeon Forge, this is a great choice. My wife and I enjoyed every minute of our stay and we really hated leaving there. We would head out each day to some activity and then look forward to coming back to the hot tub, cooking out on the grill and relaxing. This cabin has all the modern conveniences with the views you would expect from a rural log cabin. I am not sure how many pictures we took from the walk around balcony. My wife would jump up each morning to film the sunrise. I will say the place left its best for our last night. As we sat in the hot tub chilling, I noticed how many stars I could see. When we got out it was awe inspiring the number of stars in the sky. I just wish we had the right camera to capture the sky that night. Not only do we want to go back, we can't wait until the next chance. We definitely want to do a fall there. Thank you Luana and Floyd for such a wonderful place to stay.

The Best of the Best

My wife and I have stayed at Shell Mountain for 3 years in a row. Honestly, it is the best place we've ever stayed. The house is great and really comfortable. Great beds, really nice bathroom with BIG shower/tub. Beautiful living room with windows, windows, windows. It's great, inside and out. But the BEST thing is what you find outside. All through the Smokies there are areas provided along the roads where you can pull off to see a scenic view. But honestly, the best view we've seen is from the porch at Shell Mountain. It is a HUGE view of a beautiful valley, with the Smokies just a few miles away. Mt. LeConte and Mt. Guyot, two of the highest mountains east of the Mississippi are in full view, waiting to greet you when you get up in the morning. The view is constantly changing with the position of the sun and with the presence or abscence of clouds. Whipporwills serenade you in the evenings. It is really hard to force yourself to go inside and go to bed at night. No matter whether you drive into Gatlinburg, Pidgeon Forge, or Sevierville, it only takes about 20 minutes to get there, and the drive itself is beautiful, no matter which way you go. It's obvious, I'm sure, that we love this place and will continue to return as long as the Lord allows.

Once again we had a great stay in this peaceful oasis of privacy. Incredible scenery which is brilliant to watch all the changes in weather and light set against the Smoky Mountains backdrop. The house is well equipped with everything you need to relax and enjoy. No need to go anywhere else just sit out on the deck and enjoy. A very special place that we hope to return to once again in the future. We have been here three times and we have not tired of it yet.

Arrived Friday to a beautiful blanket of snow, walked in to a cozy, nicely decorated home, immediately went out on the deck and started taking pictures. Over the course of our long weekend, we drove to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, visiting many of the local shops. Our leisurely drive through Cades Cove on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning (snow still on the ground) was wonderful. The only ?wildlife? we saw at our cabin other than the many varieties of birds, was a happy-go-lucky large, brown hound dog that came by to visit while making his rounds. Sunday morning, we got up early and headed out for a drive knowing that it was going to be a transition day with Winter Storm Olympia on the way. Monday, headed out to catch our plane in freezing rain. This beautiful home has everything you could possibly want, very up to date and spotless. It was fascinating to look at the before and after pictures. What a difference! The furnishings and bedding are so comfortable, you just don?t want to move (but then there?s the view) and all of the personal touches that just make you feel like you?re at home. It was surely a miracle to find this particular cabin with so many out there. There?s a true sense of privacy and peaceful quiet. You feel like you?re on top of the world when you look out across the deck and see that chain of huge mountains, covered in snow. Night time is just as pretty with all the twinkling lights below and bright stars above. Floyd and Luanna were wonderful. They kept in touch by phone, email and text to make sure that everything was perfect (which it was) and kept us posted on weather conditions. Even with the snow and ice, the road up to the cabin was easily managed. The county came by several times to scrape and salt the road. We are definitely looking forward to staying in this beauty again. Maybe try every season! Thanks for everything. It was truly amazing.

My husbands first words when we entered the cabin were"the pictures do not do this place justice". The views are beautiful! The home is very conveniently located to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, all the things one can hope to have. For me, however the hosts are what make this place exceptional. They called to make sure we were aware of the prognosticators weather for our stay (winter weather advisory), asked for us to call when we arrived and to ensure the cabin was up to our standards (which of course it was), texted to ensure we had power during the storm (we did), and called one last time on our final night, to make sure we were happy with the stay. Mr. Floyd and Mrs. Luanna are very thoughtful in preparing the cabin and ensuring each stay is exceptional. I loved getting snowed in here! It was amazing!!

The cabin takes your breath away from the moment you step inside. It is clean and cozy and feels like home for a few days. We booked the cabin mainly for the mountain views, and they are nothing less than spectacular, with changing looks throughout the day. High powered binoculars are even provided to see long distances. The pictures don't quite do it justice. The mountains must be seen in person. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the views too, either from the rocking chairs, outside dining area, swing, or even from the hot tub (which the owner kept at 102 degrees for us). Inside the cabin is very comfortable furniture, a full kitchen (with coffee, tea, lemonade, hot chocolate and popcorn provided), a full bath (with two sinks and whirlpool tub), and two connecting bed rooms. We slept in the bed room on the right that had a closet, washer and dryer, TV, and door that led directly to the deck. And I can't forget about the fireplace. It is gas and turns on instantly with a timer. I would turn it on and watch the football playoffs on DirecTV. All in all, after hours of searching for a perfect getaway, I feel like we succeeded and found a real slice of heaven. We were able to go out a few days and explore Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville, about a 30 minute drive or so from the cabin. We highly recommend doing Cades Cove and walking through the main Gatlinburg street. Also, eating at The Old Mill Restaurant and JT Hannah's is a must. And finally, equally impressive as the cabin itself was the communication with the owners, either by email, phone call, or text. We talked mainly with Floyd, who went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable the entire 5 days we were there. He provided directions with back roads to places where we could explore and shop. Even more helpful was that he provided weather updates, as there was a big snow storm heading our way when he knew we would be traveling home, and being from Florida, we definitely appreciated the advice. My wife and I have already talked about making a trip back, probably in the fall, and have started to recommend this hidden gem to everyone. Hands down, the best vacation we have ever been on.
