Description from owner

The 10,000 square foot Castino Lakeview Mansion sits high atop a bluff with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. It's just steps down to the expansive beach and marina view, with sand volleyball nets and fire pits. The house combines the feel of yesteryear's opulence with all the modern amenities. The home was built in 1912 by a coal and shipping baron JP Reiss on the Great Lakes, and he spared no expense. The features include mahogany trim, barreled dining room ceiling, and ornamental plasters, along with iron, stone and brickwork. There are 9 bedrooms in the main house, including a variety of bunks and sleeper sofas, so it can comfortably sleep a combination of children and adults up to a total of 24. (There are two additional bedrooms in the coach house also available for rent, including a bath, kitchen and family room.) The main house has 9 bathrooms, 11 fireplaces, 11 flat screen TV's, Wi-Fi and an outdoor patio fire table. There is a full kitchen (plus a kitchenette on the third floor), along with a gas grill on the veranda overlooking Lake Michigan, the beach and the lighthouse on the point.

The lower level is a playground for young and old, including a full mahogany bar, foosball, ping pong, billiards, plus laundry facilities. There's no need to ever leave the house, the grounds nor the beach.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

The location to Lake Michigan was closer than I had imagined. I loved looking out the windows from the cozy warm spaces of the mansion and admired the serene views across the bluff overlooking the beach area. It was cold during our visit but not too cold to keep several family members walking into to town to do some exploring.

This is my second visit to a Castino vacation home and I feel they know how to make a house comfortable for large groups. My favorite space on this trip was the formal living room area with the fireplace and elegant appointments. Another favorite was toasting champagne in the beautiful dining room in the evening glow of the impressive chandelier. Ours was a quick stay so I can't wait to return in the summer to enjoy more of the house!

This is definitely a four season vacation home.

The photos don't do it justice. This place is gorgeous. It is like an English manor house, yet only a couple of hours away from Chicago. And, it is right on Lake Michigan, so there are stunning views from all over the place. Every room has its own bathroom, and most have a fireplace. The common areas are immense and beautifully decorated with antique furnishings.

But it is comfortable, too. Again, the photos make it look stuffy, when in fact, it is so pleasant and warm. They are currently remodeling the lower level, which will create even more space for family fun, like pool, ping pong, foosball, and toys.

The architectural details are amazing, like the woodwork in the dining room and the plaster gargoyle faces in the tavern on the lower level. The staircase would be perfect for a bride's grand entrance.

We stayed with a group of girlfriends, and cooked in most of the nights. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, plenty of dishes, and 2 refrigerators. We had a really nice dinner, shopped, and went to the museum in town, all just a pleasant 10 minute walk away. There were more things we wanted to do, but we were having so much fun relaxing in such a beautiful space. The days got away from us. Next time, I would to go to the Kohler showroom, to the spa at the American Club and take a much longer walk along the lakefront.

I would love to get my extended family up there for a summer vacation, to take full advantage of the grounds and lake. I know the guys would love to golf at Whistling Straights.

We will be back!

Great place for our large family! First floor is all beautiful living space, second floor has 5 spacious BRs w baths, third floor has additional BRs and baths. Basement has ping pong and pool table, etc. TVs all over-- new flat screens. The kitchen is fully equipped with all necessary appliances--we brought in a chef from Milwaukee, who prepared a gourmet dinner there one evening. The whole first floor has beautiful wood walls in Victorian grandeur.

New Owners are maintenance fanatics and property manager quite nice and helpful-- provided babysitting, made helpful recommendations, and even picked up stuff at store for us!

Sheboygan has several really good restaurants, great children's museum, wonderful arts center, and is 10 minutes to Kohler with the American Club amenities (spa, golf courses and the "toilet museum"-- a/k/a Kohler plumbing fixture displays). The Sheboygan theater has been beautifully restored and has various programs-- we saw a comedian there.
The house is on top of a bluff and overlooks the lake-- great views! In better weather (we were there in January) one could walk down the hill to the beach, I believe.

In summary, it is like stepping back in time to "old luxury" without sacrificing any modern conveniences. I have already recommended this place to friends and relatives-- and hope it is available when we want to return!

Seven dear friends wanted to celebrate a BIG birthday for one of our group. We decided to spend the weekend somewhere special where we could relax , enjoy each others company and feel pampered. The Mansion fit the bill and overdelivered. We had the run of a huge, gorgeous house for the entire weekend. It was the perfect setting for birthday cake and champagne in the dining room ( after winetasting and dinner at the Black Pig in town) and (more wine) and late night converstion by the fire in the living room. The bedrooms are all decorated in charming, different styles - with one thing in common - very nice bathrooms. Sheboygan's a cute town with some nice stores ( Nest), good restaurants & a fabulous art museum. And, the Mansion overlooks Lake Michigan. It was a chilly weekend in March - so our hardier friends took a stroll on the beach. All in all a great experience - and as advertised, affordable luxury. It's so much nicer to stay in a private "house" with friends, than in a hotel. Two thumbs up - we really enjoyed staying at the Mansion . We're thinking about including the guys next summer as there are several good golf courses nearby

What a wonderful place this is! The historic charm of the mansion is rare and undeniable. Even though we were just a couple of hours from home, we felt like we had a real vacation. Thanks to the Castino's for their hospitality with ease of booking and for sharing this special place. Who knew Sheboygan had so much to offer? We plan on trading up from Lake Geneva for the comfort and amenities this wonderful city and home has to offer.
