Description from owner

Summers House, an Inn Wine Country property, is a rustic contemporary country house and architectural gem. Warm, welcoming, filled with art, antiques, and books, the house garners rave reviews from groups who enjoy its embrace. As one notable author who who enjoyed the house stated, 'Now I have been spoiled; every other place we stayed in after yours seemed well, souless. That might be so for all our future vacation homes.'

Summers House has views that reach to San Franco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, yet is just three miles, 10 minutes, from Historic Sonoma Plaza. Designed by award winning architect Robert Zinkhan, and beautifully integrated into the natural landscape, it epitomizes his goal: To create "The house as art".

Summers House features Mexican paver tile floors, a beautifully tiled, handcrafted, fully equipped kitchen, and native stone fireplace. The striking fireplace was constructed from cobblestones left behind when quarries on the property provided stones to pave the streets of San Francisco during the 19th century. Today, huge moss covered boulders still sculpt the land. Tumbling stonewalls have been restacked to enhance the landscape, while maintaining the property's historical integrity. Native American arrowheads found on the property also provide reminders of the past.

Comfortable and practical leather furnishings complement antiques, art, the home's natural cedar walls and exposed beams. A large 18th Century European dining table comfortably seats guests. A quarter sawn oak upright piano, a part of the family for nearly sixty years, has been restored and tuned.

Three bedrooms, all with lofts, and two bathrooms welcome groups of six (an occasional seven or eight with approval.) The master bedroom boasts an extremely comfortable king bed, and Jacuzzi bathtub. The two bedrooms that once housed the Summers children, feature queen sized beds and share a bathroom accessible from both bedrooms. Each bedroom includes a private sink and vanity.

An enormous deck, with a wonderful jarrah wood outdoor dining table, spans the south side of the house and captures views of Mt. Tamalpias and the San Francisco Bay. Views can be enjoyed from the living and dining areas as well. Sunsets are breathtaking.

Wind up one of the most scenic country roads in Sonoma to reach Summers House, located on a private country property in east side Sonoma. Drive through vineyards, pass by Ravenswood Winery, and climb up into the hills where the house is nestled on a wooded hillside where wildlife abounds. Drive slowly as the road is a hiker's paradise and wildlife crossing.

Sonoma Plaza tasting rooms, restaurants, shops, galleries, historic sites; and art, cultural, film, food, wine, entertainment events are just three miles away. Enjoy Sonoma's Farmers Market in Sonoma Plaza on Tuesday evenings and in Depot Park on Friday mornings.

It is centrally located for visits to Sonoma, Carneros and Napa wineries. San Francisco and Pacific Coast beaches are one hour away.

Summers House has been the pride and joy of its owners for nearly 40 years. It has provided the setting for many family-owned business gatherings, which have supported food, wine and art, charitable endeavors. It is an inspired and inspiring home with a special sense of place.

“Clean,comfortable and a great view”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2016

The residence lived up to its description. Was occupancy ready and very well kept. The view from the deck is breath taking. Six adults in comfortable beds, two queens, one king in master. The house is nearly 50 years old but the wood and stone interior made it quite nice and very home like. The cooking utensils and cookware are great. You can prepare virtually any dish. My only suggestion would be to power wash the back deck and chairs on a regular bases. Since you are living in a vertible forest, birds are common and leave their calling cards accordingly. Definitely will go back when we're out in sonoma again!

Owner's reply: We very much enjoyed having this group of extremely gracious, complimentary people. We do strive for cleanliness everywhere - including the deck! We do last minute checks before every arrival. The birds do visit daily and add ambiance to the great outdoor space, along with their calling cards. We look forward to accommodating all of our return guests. The house is just shy of 40 years old. Very original 1970s kept in good condition. Our guests love its charm.

“Great escape in Sonoma”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2015

We stayed at the Summers home for a three day weekend. All was very clean and the views from the porch were spectacular. The drive up the road was always a treat. Lots of folks walking and riding bikes. I was a bit concerned that the Summers live below the rental but was never an issue while we were there. They were very accommodating. Only suggestions that we would have would be some amenities in the bathroom and perhaps some coffee for the morning after you arrive as you don't really want to leave to go get some! Ravens Wood winery down the road comped the tasting for us as we were "neighbors" and "Cat" that works there is a hoot. They have a great attitude and make you feel welcome. If coming in late afternoon, would encourage a stop at Whole Foods or the Market to stock up on a few things. It's about 10-15 minutes to the store. Again, had a great stay!

Owner's reply: It is a pleasure to accommodate guests and assist them with their enjoyment of our wonderful wine country. We provide a tip sheet that encourages all to stock up on supplies when they arrive in Sonoma before driving up to the house. Suggestions from our guests are greatly appreciated and help us insure great experiences. We will definitely now provide coffee just in case. Bathrooms are stocked with quality liquid soap and ample towels. We ask guests to bring other preferred personal toiletries.
