The "Lighthouse Cottage"

A wonderful large cottage on the ocean's edge with panoramic views. Drink your morning coffee watching the sunrise on the expansive oceanfront deck. Spend your days exploring sea life among the rocks, watching the seals and seabirds, walking in the woods, or watching the lobster boats out front. Bring your kayak to launch from our small pebble beach right in front. The clear night sky is filled with stars close enough to touch! Fall asleep listening to the water lap at the shore. Antiquing, fine dining, museums, hiking and golf are just a sample of many ways to spend the day - if you can tear yourself away.

The main level has an open concept kitchen, dining and living room. There is also a full bathroom and laundry area. The cottage has three bedrooms and 1 3/4 bathrooms. The large master bedroom on the main level has a king-sized bed and overlooks the ocean. Upstairs you'll find two more bedrooms, one with a view of the woods with a trundle bed, the other with a queen bed and a wonderful ocean view. This cottage is fully outfitted, linens, towels, including a dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer, and fireplace. We also provide cable television, DVD player and wireless internet access.

Beds: 1 King Bed, 1 Queen Bed, 2 Twin Beds

About the area

Spruce Head is a small lobster-fishing village on Penobscot Bay in midcoast Maine. The nearest city is Rockland, about ten minutes away. There is a small airport in Owls Head with commercial flights to Boston and facilities for private aircraft. Nearby Thomaston, Rockport and Camden are beautiful towns with small shops and galleries. Lighthouses, museums, restaurants, art galleries, numerous summer festivals, hiking, fishing, shopping, day cruises and more are all available within a half-hour drive. And of course, there is lobster to eat everywhere. Or, even better, buy it fresh and bring it back to enjoy on your own deck, taking in the view.

“Peace and quiet on the water”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2016

Our 4th, wonderful visit to Maine and this same home! As always, everything needed for a great week of quiet unwinding....this time with seals!!! Each time we are greeted with new wildlife right out the back deck! We are always so happy to bring Rusty, our Lab, so he can swim and save all of his tennis balls from drowning right out back in the water! The home is well appointed, very comfortable, and Paul and Patty will make certain you are happy and have everything you need. The home is close by to anything you may want to drive to or visit and perfectly located in mid-coast Maine. You can explore near, far or stay "home" and feel time stand still. Hope to be back soon!!!!

Amazing night skies with many stars and breathtaking sunrises! It can't get any better than that. Can't wait to go back.

Owner's reply: Betty, Thank you for a wonder picture you have painted! It will be wonderful to have you return next year to our little piece of heaven on earth. I hope all good thing come your way this upcoming year. Until we meet again. Thank you. Patty

Set in a quite corner of mid coast Maine this beautifully appointed cottage makes for a relaxing and stress free vacation. It is perfectly situated to explore this part of Maine. Highly recommended.

“Magnificent location”

This was our second stay at Patty and Paul's lovely house, and yet again, it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, personal touches from the owners added a friendly welcome. The house is beautiful, comfortable (huge bed, fluffy pillows, heated bathroom floor... too much to list!),well appointed, and a great base for exploring the area. Patty is a great host, and very concerned with ensuring an optimal visit. The view is spectacular at all times, and there is an accessible beach at low tide. We hated to leave, and look forward to visiting again.

Owner's reply: Linda, I'm so sorry we missed you this year. However, we do have to go home at sometime! I'm glad you enjoyed the changes. I forgot I did them in the bedroom. Out of sight, out of mind. I home your next visit we will be up there. I'm so glad you enjoyed the weather and the view. After 2 trips out from the repair person. We believe the problem is fixed. At least until next June! Thank you for being so understanding and enjoying what we have to offer. Patty

“3rd time stay, each time gets better!”

Once again, an incredible week with many, many memories! The home and accommodations are much more then expected from a house rental. Patty and Paul are your Inn Keepers who become your family next door making your stay warm and comfortable. The views are intense, eagles diving, ducks saying hi, just perfect. All right out the back door. We rent a kayak since you have your own beach, right out the back door. Did I mention doggy friendly?!? We love coming here since we can bring Rusty, our Lab whose right at home retrieving tennis balls in the ocean for hours!!! Family friendly, comfortable, lobster everywhere, can bring the doggy, so many sights!!! We'll be back again! Rusty has some ideas :)!

“Lighthouse Cottage”

We had a wonderful time at Lighthouse Cottage. Location was great and the cottage was well equipped and maintained beautifully. Having the owner living next door was a big plus for any questions or information that we needed. Can't imagine a better place to stay while exploring the beautiful Maine coast. We would definitely recommend staying at Lighthouse Cottage.

Owner's reply: Janice, Thank you for the wonderful review. We enjoyed you, Janet, Ed and Charlie. What a great way to spend time with people you love. I'm glad you found us and it was all you had hoped Maine would be for all of you. Please come back soon. We love sharing our View. Take care and enjoy the rest of the summer. Thank you. “Wowed by the view”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2014

When we arrived at the cottage and walked in the door we were delighted by the view of the water through the panoramic glass patio doors. The cottage was clean and ready for visitors. We found a loaf of fresh bread and a jar of blueberry jam on the dining room table to welcome us. A very nice touch and delicious too. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of blankets and towels. We did expect bunk beds in the one room but it was a trundle so we still had the 4th bed to sleep on. The living room had plenty of seating forthe 4 of us. The area was great to see and all the people we came across and talked to were very friendly. We had a great time seeing the area and sitting at the cottage on the deck. The view made it hard to read but the reading could wait the view couldn't.

Owner's reply: Joyce, I'm so glad the view was the only interuption for your reading. Thank you so much for sharing your experience at Lighthouse Cottage. In May, when I arrived this year, we removed the bunk bed. I'm sorry I didn't notify you of the change. The trundle makes the room feel larger and easier to move around. We are so pleased that you found our cottage to your liking and I hope all of you return to Lighthouse some day, soon. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your summer. Patty and Paul

“Columbus Weekend Getaway”

Reviewed 14 Oct 2013

There was no better place to be spending the Columbus Day weekend than at The Lighthouse in Thomaston. The air was brisk, but the cottage was warm and cozy when we arrived, thanks to a wonderful (and romantic) gas fireplace. We knew the cottage was supposed to be near the water, but it was only when the sun rose the next morning that we discovered we were only a couple of feet from the ocean. We drank our coffee in bed while watching the osprey, ducks and gulls play right outside our window. Once up, we moved to the deck and continued to take in the nonstop show of bird life, lobstermen, and the occasional seal. And right below our deck were the steps down to our very own private sandy beach! The cottage had everything we needed: a well supplied kitchen, hot shower, comfortable bed, and amazing view. The many extras, such as flat screen tv, games, and books made the place feel very homey. The owners were incredibly nice, and even though they were much older than we are, they were very cool to talk to, and they had lots of great ideas about what to do in the area. My only complaint was that we didn't have enough time at the Lighthouse! We definitely will be back!

Owner's reply: Kim, Wow, thank you for the wonderful review...I only have one issue of concern.... The owners .... much older? UMMMMMMMMmmmmm! :) Love to have you back any time. It was a great visit and wonderful weather! We all lucked out! Mayber Happy Hour should be on the deck next time! We will be watching for your return... Patty Lou and Paul

“Relaxing, comfortable, homey”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2013

We had a most wonderful experience with our stay at Island View Light House Cottage. We were fortunate in that the weather was perfect but the accomodations would have made the stay great anyway. The innkeepers were so friendly and lived in a cottage nearby which made any requests answered very quickly. Paul and Patty were so helpful with restaurant and other recommendations. The location is near Rockland and Camden both of which have good restaurants and activities. Great for 2 couples or a family with kids. We would definitely recommend and come back ourselves. This location makes a great homebase for visiting all of the mid coast area. We woke to beautiful sunrises off the deck and lovely afternoons watching the lobster fishermen checking traps and an eagle circling nearby. Locations is only a few steps down to the ocean. The pictures accurately depict property.

Owner's reply: Lorraine, We are so glad you enjoyed your time in Maine. It was a pleasure to finally meet you. I hope our paths will cross in GA, Too! Sorry about the Gov. Shut down...really makes us think when it will change our vacation plans! Take care and I hope we see you in GA and ME! Thank you. Patty and Paul

Chris and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lighthouse Cottage. The cottage was fully stocked with everything we needed in terms of cooking and kitchen utensils. Chris and I had a couple of lobster and steamer feasts sitting out on the deck overlooking the water. The location of the cottage was great as well. We were able to quickly get to Rockland and Port Clyde for some adventures. Waterman's Lobster Shack is also only a 1/2 mile away and was super yummy! We also brought our dog Gracie and the cottage was set up perfectly for her as well. We did not need to worry about her messing anything up as the cottage is set up to be very user friendly and easy to sweep up the sand. She, as well as us, really enjoyed the beach. Gracie was brave enough to swim while we watched! I highly recommend the cottage. We had a great stay, Patty is great, and we look forward to coming back.

Owner's reply: Debra, I'm glad it all worked out well with the cottage and Gracie enjoyed herself. You seemed to have hit all of the highlights for a week visit. Sounds like you were able to make some great memories. We look forward to your return. Thank you. Patty
