“Quiet, peaceful location & close to many attaction”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2015

This house is in a very quiet location and very clean and cozy. It is close to a lot of attractions and nothing more than 20- 25 minutes away. The loudest noise outside were the birds singing. We even were able to watch a squirrel or two as we ate our breakfast. The only draw back about this vacation was we did not allow enough time to see and do everything. Robyn was very helpful answering all our questions and also letting a lot of information on the kitchen table for us to look through. Hence the reason we did not allow enough time. We will be coming back to Southwest Harbor and staying here. Must see: Views from Loop road, Bar harbor, Seawall, Cadillac mountain, Ravenwood, and the Down East Lobster pound on route 3 west/south from the house.

Owner's reply: Thanks Teresa for your kind words. So glad you and your family got to come enjoy Acadia. It is really beautiful here; with so much to see and do. We look forward to your next visit. Thanks for choosing to stay with us and taking time to write this review.

“Fantastic vacation!”

We had a great trip to Acadia. We travelled from Toronto, Canada. The house worked very well for us. There was enough room for the five of us and it afforded us the opportunity to prepare many of our own meals. The owners are great communicators and provided a lot of helpful information, both before we travelled and while we were in Maine. The house is about a half hour drive from Bar Harbor and about 15 minutes away from the Echo Lake entrance to Acadia Park. We didn't try the restaurants right in Southwest Harbor, but did use the bike rental store, which had better prices and great service.

Owner's reply: Thanks Nicole for your kind words. Acadia is beautiful with lots to do for all and we want all our guests to have a fantastic time. We tried hard to provide you with not only a comfortable, well stocked home away from home, but also information on everything so that you could make the most of your vacation while you were there. Glad to hear you had a wonderful time. Please come back soon.

Spacious, clean house was comfortable and provided everything we needed. A bit far away from destinations that we were interested in - east coast of Acadia National Park - about half hour drive to welcome center point. We did a lot of things, including fishing (we were quite successful at Eagle lake, Echo lake, Long pond and Lower Hadlock Pond), visiting oceanarium, nature explorations (walking some trails and hiking Beech, Gorham and Champlain mountains), enjoying the ocean scenery along the Park Loop road (Ocean path was very entertaining as well as Sandy beach), collecting the mussels at the Pretty Marsh and grilling them right there in the picnic area, having dinner with popovers at Jordan's house, playing badminton in the yard. Oceanarium is really great - a must see for exquisite children 6-10 years old. Not sure what wether is typically like in June, this year was very rainy so were told that we missed a lot of scenery because of fog. July-August might be a better time to go.

A delightful stay! We spent a happy week exploring and admiring the scenery. House very well equipped and in a very peaceful location. -Hampshire, England

Your home was wonderfully located to do all the hiking, kayaking, dining, and exploring (we did) all week long. We loved MDI and all that it offers. We had a memorable vacation. Hard to believe places like this exist! Your house is spacious and well equipped! -Fairfield, CT

What a beautiful and private Maine Island Getaway. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in providing so many pleasant details; night lights, flashlights, menus, kitchen tools, island info, etc... We love the rock-bordered garden you have created in the front. -Williamsport, PA

We recently spent a week in Robyn and Jim's lovely Hillcrest Cottage in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Their home is situated on a secluded, peaceful property. All the linens, towels, dishes, pots and pans that you could possibly need are provided. There is even a lobster pot for those adventurous enough to cook their own. Don't let the unfinished second floor scare you away. There were six of us, and we had PLENTY of room to spread out and relax!
Mount Desert Island is the home to Acadia National Park, a nature wonderland. Everywhere you look is a 'Kodack moment'! There is SO much to do - hiking biking and swimming. And, after a day of satisfying exercise, you can relax at night by strolling in Bar Harbor, eating a delicious homemade ice cream cone and looking at all of the interesting shops.
A trip to Mount Desert Island is a must for everyone, and what better place to stay than Hillcrest Cottage!- Upper Darby, PA

A few friends and I stayed in this house during the first week in July, and we loved it! The Simon's were so thorough and accommodating in the days before our trip -- they provided a plethora of tips and information for our stay, on topics from dining, hiking, biking, fishing -- you name it! Nothing was left unaddressed. Throughout our stay, we found the house very comfortable and clean -- it really felt like home. The kitchen was impressively well stocked with everything you might need for cooking, grilling, baking, etc. We will definitely try to stay here the next time we visit Southwest Harbor.-New York, NY
