Description of the Staunton vacation home rental
1910 Clapboard farm house on 32 acres in Highland County, Virginia. Rural setting nestled between ridges on lush farm land where you'll find peace and tranquility. You'll love our mountain views! Renovated and clean. Dish T.V. with a substantial movie library. Two full baths.Three double beds. Huge porch with an overhang in case it rains.
Highland county offers many outdoor hiking trails offered through the George Washington National Forest. The county consists of a series of high narrow ridges complemented by relatively narrow river valleys. The James and the Potomac River's headwaters are both found in the county. Elevations range from 4,546 feet above sea level down to 2,894 feet in the county seat of Monterey. Our highest elevation at our house is 2600 ft.
Staunton Virginia is located about 40 minutes east of Monterey that offers a Wallmart and other modern necessities. If a resident of Highland County wanted to go shopping, it's 2 lanes all the way to the 'big' city!
In March, since 1958, the county stages the Highland Maple Festival. During this time, Maple Sugar camps throughout the county welcome visitors to view the process of syrup making. The Maple Festival is a great way to spend a spring weekend and sample offerings from local farms. Ginsing Mountain Store offers tastings of their locally grown lamb products. Tasty! There's hundreds of other vendors and opportunities for shopping or just people watching. (highlandcountymaplefestival)
Every August, the Mountain Mama Road Bike Challenge brings cyclists from all over the country to challenge themselves on the steep roads of the county. Also, the Highland County Fair, held on the last weekend of August or the first weekend of September, is the longest continuously running fair in Virginia. (highlandcountyfairva.)
If you are hankering for a taste of life that is the polar opposite from your hectic urban life, come on out, and stay a while.
