Description of the Stowe vacation home rental
This Stowe vacation rental is the perfect mix of rustic and luxury. If "roughing it" is not for you, Goldilocks cabin offers all the comfort of a fine hotel along with the rustic charm of a Vermont cabin. Goldilocks is on four wooded acres, yet just a mile to Main street in Stowe, and 8 miles to Mt. Mansfield and skiing. There are hundreds of miles of hiking, mountain biking, and cross country skiing trails just minutes away, and Stowe village has an eclectic mix of restaurant and shops, and galleries to explore.

Goldilocks cabin is 980 square feet, with open plan living. Snuggle in by the wood stove after a day of hiking or skiing, or relax on one of the two decks to enjoy the foliage with your morning coffee, or while grilling your evening meal and then relax in the back yard around the fire pit as you watch the sunset. The cabin is decorated with vintage and antique pieces from local antique stores, and Paris flea market finds. The master bedroom is equipped with queen sized bed, sitting area, TV and private deck. The sleeping loft with full-sized bed is accessed by a ladder in the living area, and is a big favorite of older kids. There are also pull out sofas in the living room, and in the master sitting area to accommodate additional guests. The kitchen is fully equipped for a cook, the cupboards filled with games and travel information, the cabin outfitted with cozy robes, wifi, cable and smart TV to stream your favorite movies and television shows, and in the winter a fire awaits you in the wood stove - all that is required is a match. Goldilocks is also pet friendly. Well behaved approved pets are always welcome. Guests have often mentioned our attention to detail as one of the reasons their stay at Goldilocks cabin exceeded their expectations.
Area Information
Goldilocks is in "The Hollow" on Stowe Hollow Road, a residential neighborhood of widely spaced lots just outside of Stowe. There is hiking and cross-country skiing just minutes away, including The Pinnacle, a challenging hike with a panoramic view of Mt. Mansfield. For sledding, just go around the corner to the elementary school. We supply the sled, which is in the shed on the property. In the summer, relax on the Adirondack chairs or the deck, or grab the zero-gravity chair in the shed to relax with a book in the yard. Their are four restaurants within two miles, and the cabin is just over a mile to Main Street with two markets nearby. Parking is available for two cars, and the driveway is plowed regularly.

Wonderful Stay at Goldilocks Cabin

September 12, 2016

My wife and I had a great time in Stowe (5 nights) and enjoyed our Goldilocks cabin immensely. To paraphrase my wife it was the nicest cabin she had ever stayed in, and I agree. Very roomy and a comfortable feeling. Jill has provided many thoughtful amenities such as flashlights, guidebooks and kitchen staples. The location is great as you're minutes away from the Stowe village but able to avoid the dense traffic there. Her instructions were very clear and Jill was readily available for any questions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cabin to others

I spent memorial day weekend at Goldilocks with my girlfriend and dog. The pet-friendly nature of the rental was what originally enticed us, but it's far from the only aspect of my rental experience that will motivate me to rent this property in the future. Saying the location is ideal would be an understatement as it's convenient, about a minute drive, from Main Street but also provides a sense of rustic privacy. It's well appointed with all the amenities we could have asked for, and lavish decor gives it a real sense of character. Considering the price and all the positives of the experience overall, we're sure to frequent this property again in the future.

This April my husband decided to take me for a getaway trip up to Stowe. We both looked at properties and when we saw Goldilocks, our minds were made up. So true to the pictures it was incredibly beautifully decorated yet cozy, had all the amenities we could every want and was private too. We grabbed our favorite books, poured a glass of wine and never wanted to leave this charming oasis. We even cooked a lovely meal in the well stocked kitchen after some long on some trails. Stowe is a charming town and truly lives up to its wonderful press coverage. Jill was an absolute delight to work with and provided us with real inside scoop information about the area. We truly did not want to leave but plan on coming back this summer. In fact, we have decided to book a trip for everyone of the four seasons. We had a wonderful and restful time.

Wonderful Stowe Cabin

Wonderful Cabin in Stowe! Just a quick moment and you are down town for breakfast or dinner... and the mountain biking is some of the best- you haven’t lived till you ride Flo at the Cady’s Fall’s bike trail. Goldilock’s Cabin is beautifully decorated, cosy and quiet. Jill pointed us in the direction of great restaurants in the area and suggested a terrific swimming hole! We have stayed in summer and in the off season (everything is open the only difference is off season is QUIET- which we love)! We are two mountain bikers and have stayed at the cabin over the years- sometimes with other couples- plenty of room.

This was just "what the doctor ordered" for a weekend getaway. It was cozy and charming, spotless and well maintained. Jill was easily accessible via email. I would recommend this cabin without reservation to anyone and everyone. My only complaint was that our schedule didn't allow us to stay longer. The weekend just went too fast. I would definately hope to return there again in the future.

I just returned from a wonderful 3-stay stay at Goldilocks at Stowe. The cabin was perfect for my visit. My group consisted of 4 adults and we all had our own bed. The cabin has three decks, with the deck off the master being my favorite for viewing nature. It has a fully equipped kitchen, cozy living room and two tables for dining. The owner Jill responses very quickly to any questions. I look forward to a return visit.

Very Clean and Homey Property
(Listing 312906)
Date of Stay

This is a nice cabin about 1.5 miles East of downtown Stowe area. Things we liked: Clean, comfortable, WiFi (worked after I rebooted the router), washer/dryer, lots of kitchen items incl. coffee! It is a little less remote than the picture portrays - about 100 ft from the road and a house on adjoining lot (but still quiet and somewhat secluded). Owner is great with commutations - but would be nice to have a detailed map for the 1-2 mile surrounding area. Minor improvements: Better toiletries, newer TV in living room, remove a few knickknacks for more shelf and top of dresser space (especially in bathroom).

My Response:
So Glad you enjoyed your stay. I just wanted to let you know that I am updating the cabin with a smart TV in November, so guests can stream their favorite movies and TV shows. So, Goldiocks is working its way to the 21st century! Hope you'll come back and give it a try.

Fabulous Fall Holiday at Goldilocks Cabin, Stowe
(Lsiting 312906)
Date of Stay
October 18, 2014

My Mum, sister and I booked this gorgeous cabin for our two week holiday to Stowe. It was perfect! Very pretty and beautifully decorated. It was cosy and welcoming, with a huge vase of flowers. We spent a lot of time just hanging out there...reading, sketching and painting, so we can definitely recomend it to everyone. We spent our two weeks exploring the village, which we loved, and many of the wonderful places up alongside the ski road/mountain road. Places that we kept going back to include: McCarthy's (breakfast is amazing!!!), Cold Hollow Cider Mill (hot apple cider and cinnamon donuts are gorgeous), Harrisons (for our 'posh' meals out!!), Spruce Peak hotel + the gondola ride, Von Trapp Resort's bakery/deli, and definitely the spa at Stoweflake!!! My husband and I have been going to Stowe for 15 years together and we have stayed in most of the nice resorts/hotels as well as a couple private homes. Goldilocks ranks at the very top! It was super comfortable, fully loaded kitchen with nice pans to cook in, which is a treat since most rentals don't offer much. Additionally you are so close to the center of Stowe but you still get the feeling of being out in the woods, so its the perfect combination. Don't hesitate staying in this home, we will definitely be back. Have fun, Michael

The Goldilocks Cabin is both rustic and sophisticated-country-style, very relaxing and ideal for a couple. The property description is accurate and the cabin's kitchen is well equipped if you choose to dine in. Also, it is an easy drive to Stowe Resort for skiing and activities plus a variety of restaurants can be found just down the road. Owner Jill is easy to communicate with and provided specific details along the way making the rental transaction a success.

Goldilock's Cabin Surpassed Expectations

If you are looking for a comfortable cabin with all amenities; in a very quiet location (not isolated though) and with loads of activities for the more adventurous; then you couldn't do any better than Goldilocks Cabin. The road directions were perfect and we found the cabin very easily. The first sighting of Goldilocks Cabin lived up to all anticipated expectations; lights on and welcoming; very warm and cosy when we got in. Wifi was good; mobile phone connection not so good - you have to find the right spot in the cabin to get reception! (A wonderful reason for no one being able to contact you!) The kitchen was very well equipped with everything most people on vacation would need. Always loads of hot water for showers. Plenty of towels for guests to use. However, maybe a couple more robes would be useful as the cabin sleeps four/five? The washhouse with the washing machine and tumble dryer was always warm for drying and keeping ski boots warm. The first morning we woke up to a huge dump of snow overnight and we were very impressed with the contractor arriving to clear the snow off the drive :-) So no worries about being snowbound if you stay here. The only improvement could possibly be slightly brighter lighting for those who like to read at night? Stowe is a wonderful village with some good stores to explore. Plenty of excellent restaurants to choose from eg Gracie's. Peace Pups for dog sledding.Cross country skiing at the Trapp Family Lodge; Skiing at Mt Mansfield; Snowmobile with Umiak. We would definitely visit again and also at a time of year when there is no snow and experience the wonderful countryside hiking or doing water activities. Thank you Jill for allowing us to make use of your wonderful cabin.

Goldilocks was so charming and beautifully decorated. It is conveniently close to downtown Stowe and many activities. We were able to both jog and hike directly from the cabin on the local roads and trails...very convenient! The inside of the cabin is as advertised...all the needed amenities tastefully decorated in local antique flavor. We highly recommend a visit to this area during the Summer season. An idyllic cottage close to many attractions
(Listing 312906)

Goldilocks Cottage is the idyllic cottage in the woods, so aptly named you expect three steaming bowls of porridge awaiting arrival, there may not be the three bears...but what you do have is a perfect lodge with a wood burning stove you wish for snow. We arrived however, for summer walking and adventure making the cottage a great retreat and base. When we wanted, Stowe with its village charm, provided superb food in a choice of restaurants and delicious ice cream. The surrounding area is of great beauty. We took the cable car up to Mansfield Mountain and ate a great lunch while looking upon the valley below. . If you are brave enough you can take the zip wire back down. Ice Skated in the indoor arena. Visited the Von Trapp Hotel resisted the urge to sing. Saw the amazing balloon show. Took the breathtaking toll road and walked the mountain ridge. Took a horse ride at the local ranch. Visited the waterfalls and swam in ice blue rivers where the rocks were formed thousands on years ago and took what almost seemed a pilgrimage to Sterling Pond. The journey is so worth it and you must take a dip. The whole area is teeming with natural wonder...Smugglers notch is a must. You can be as strenuous as you wish. The cottage is beautifully designed and decorated and must be a wonder in the winter. It has a great entrance where you can leave all your boots and ski gear. Its great for families as there is bed settee in the large bedroom which can enable everyone to sleep together of you so wish. You may not see a bear but if you're lucky enough deer will come into the garden. A special treat, just like Goldilocks.

After having to drive from Newark, NJ all night because of United Airlines' inability to properly staff their plane, resulting in a cancelled flight, we finally arrived at Goldilocks in desperate need of rest. The cabin was our sanctuary for a week as our family of four explored much of Vermont. The cabin is very well decorated and is larger than the photos appear, with little corners and alcoves where people can get away to read or have quiet time while still being in the presence of the rest of the family. The location is ideal as it is close enough to Stowe and the surrounding attractions to give quick access, yet you have the felling of a simpler, rural lifestyle to settle you after a hectic day. The owner was readily available via email and responsive at all times which was especially important for us as our plans evolved due to the canceled flight matter. though a great place to stay any time of the year, I would love to visit again during the fall colors or winter sports seasons...the wood stove just beckons to be fired up! Overall, the place was clean, inviting, and worth the money...I would stay again, should my travels take me back to Stowe.

This is the first time we have stayed at the Goldilocks Cabin! What a beautiful place. Starting with the cabin which took our breath away, to the town of Stowe. Lot of hiking opportunities, amazing restaurants, friendly people, there was always something to do and we enjoyed every minute of it. And, pets welcome!! My dog loved her stay as well, and I enjoyed the tired dog :-). We will definitely be back for more, three nights stay definitely was not enough! The owner is very friendly and is always in touch if any questions and such arise. Thank you, what a wonderful place!

Hi Jill, thank you so much for everything. Beth and I absolutely loved our stay. She kept commenting how stocked with everything we needed your cottage was. Perfect, in a word. It was hard to leave, but we had to get to her daughter's field hockey game at New England College in NH before heading home to New Jersey. I've been coming to the Stowe area every year since my first stay back in '93, when I got a tiny room at Nicholls lodge. I just love the area in general, but to compliment it with such a cozy and comfortable place to stay was even better. Thank you again and hopefully we can have a longer stay next time around.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where do we eat?
A: Plate is a mile from the cabin and yummy. Happening spot in Stowe now. A little loud though for the hard of hearing.
Sauce is on the Mountain Road and is sauce and Italian plates, and wine to go. I can't tell you how often I eat here. After a long day, when you're not up for cooking get some sauce or chicken parm and a salad an throw some pasta in a pot and voila! gourmet meal at home.
Green Goddess for lunch. Sandwich, salads, smoothies. Very healthy fast and good.
Gracie's: Great burgers
Harvest Market: Lots of gourmet goodies to go. Pricey, but treat yourself :)
Harrison's: At Harrison's it's all about the atmosphere. Cozy fire and fun bar. Eclectic food mid range price.
Hen of the Wood: Special occasion? Go to Hen of the Wood in Waterbury (fifteen minute drive). In a restored grist mill. All the food creative and locally sourced. A real treat.
McCarthy's: Breakfast reasonably priced and yummo, as Rachael Ray would say, huevos rancheros my favorite.
Q: What is the nearest coolest activity?
A: Hiking the Pinnacle. Five minutes from your door, and a challenging 3 mile hike that offers a panoramic view of Mt. Mansfield, and if you are lucky the two Golden Retrievers who live next door will be waiting at the trailhead for some fun and go on the hike with you!
Q: What's Not to be Missed?
A: Aside from the Pinnacle: If you are a cook. Stowe Kitchens and Baths. I never go to Stowe without a stop in. The Farmer's Market on the Mountain Road during the warmer months. A brew pub crawl. Vermont has more craft breweries per capita than anywhere in the US. Contact the owner for the name of a group that gives tours. (He also gives mountain biking lessons and tours in the summer months.) In the winter a snow shoe at Trapp Family Lodge. Stop midway for cocoa and snack.
