Reviews for this vacation home rental in Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii
Bonney Lake Wa
July 12, 2015
The house does have the best view, after watching the first sunset there we found ourselves gathering there for every sunset of our vacation. The house had a couple of quirks (washer dial, floor by the refrigerator, but nothing to deter us from renting there again. We loved our vacation there .Lots of room and privacy. The owner is great and accommodating!
Perfection on the North Shore
May 15, 2015
This house and it's location on the North Shore were the highlight of our trip. The house itself was set up perfect for our party of 10. My sister and I had our families with our children and our parents and all were very comfortable. My parents stayed in the downstairs room and were more than happy with their own space to retreat to, complete with laundry and kitchenette. The balcony upstairs in the main unit was picture perfect and it is where time was spent while at the house or on the front lawn taking in the view or whale watching. The location, I can't say enough how convenient it was, from the nearby Shark's Cove for snorkeling (one of the best spots on the island) to the food and shaved ice trucks to the grocery store and coffee shop, to the shopping all within a short walking distance. Just a short drive to Kale'iwa for even more shopping, restaurants and historical sights were also a plus. When we did venture to the other side of the island, it was this house and the slow down pace of North Shore that we wanted to return to. Steve was very kind and easy to work with on scheduling our stay. We were planning our next trip before we even left. Absolutely amazing trip and a thank you to Steve and those who made our stay so comfortable! If you're planning a trip to Oahu with your family and want the slow down pace the North Shore provides with the adventure of Hawaii, this house is your best bet. I can't wait to return.
Beautiful home - great location!
August 21, 2014
We enjoyed 8 days in this beautiful home on the North Shore. The house was clean and everything was as advertised. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and then some. Plenty of towels - beach and bath. The location is ideal. There is a public beach access right across the street, Ted's Bakery and Food Land just minutes down the road. Be aware that you are directly on the Kam Highway so there is some amount of road noise but the trees all around the property give great privacy and some noise reduction. The bedrooms are roomy with comfortable beds and the view out the bedroom windows up into the mountains was breath taking. We had plenty of room to gather with friends for dinner and games. High quality grill on the front deck made for some delicious cookouts. Boogie boards and beach mats were available as well as fresh coconuts from the back yard. The owners were wonderful to work with - very friendly and responsive. Overall we had a wonderful stay and look forward to visiting again.

First of all, the house. Better than advertised. Pictures do it no justice. Secondly, the owner. Pete was extremely accommodating. I would rent from him anytime. Lastly, the location. If you are looking for a crowd this is not the place. The North Shore is all that it is cracked up to be. Laid back and totally relaxing. We ventured to other parts of the island just to say that we did it, but all the while we were missing the relaxed atmosphere of the North Shore. Can't wait to go back!

A great place to stay for a Family Reunion
July 27, 2013
The property location is perfect, and as described in the property listing. We could see the turtles swim sitting on the deck. The sunsets were as described, amazing. The beach was close, we walked there over the lava rock with proper footwear. It just took a minute or two to get to the beach. One can also take the back road it takes a little bit longer but is easier for younger children or the elderly. The waves there were great, even for our eight year old. We also walked over the lava rock to the edge of the property right to the ocean and just jumped in the water to snorkel. Also the above ground swimming pool was great, it was used every day after our stay at the beach. All of the water toys such as boards, flippers etc. were used on a daily basis. The house was sufficient for our party of thirteen. We used the upstairs as well as the studio on the main floor. The kitchen was stocked well with utensils, cups, glasses, cutlery etc. However there was no microwave although it was listed with the rental listing. The living area was great we were able to sit there all thirteen of us at night after our busy day. The bedrooms were just right for our family clean and well kept. It was great to have a washer and dryer although a bit dated they did the job. The bathrooms were OK but the bath by the master bedroom was a bit harder to use, also the bath surround could do with a good cleaning. The bathroom itself was clean. There were lots of towels for swimming and bathing. We had a few questions for the owner, he was prompt in emailing me back with the answers. The grounds were clean and well maintained. All in all we had fun and enjoyed our stay very much. We would certainly stay at this property again.

Eleven of us stayed for a week and it was fabulous! The accomodations were very nice, roomy, and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our large family. There was water gear that we could make use of and the beach was so close and beautiful. It was all that we hoped it would be, The. Walkup Family

if location to the ocean and beautiful waves are important this is the place to be. Great neighborhood for biking, running and enjoying the outdoors. You will not be disappointed.
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
We just got back from our trip to the North Shore. There were two families, eight people total. Four adults, four teens. Perfect sized house for us. The kids had their own private entrance studio downstairs. The house is typical of what you expect of a Hawaiian Beach house. It was comfortable, "mostly" clean, albeit for a few buggies and some ants (expected at the beach), comfortable beds and bedding. LOVED the outdoor shower. Small pool was perfect for cooling off and the kids loved it too. It wasn't the newest, sleekest property, but it certainly isn't falling apart. THE LOCATION AND THE VIEW IS TO DIE FOR! Cant beat it anywhere. I don't even care that the garbage disposal didn't work, and that none of the plumbers could get off their surfboards long enough to come fix it. REALLY, I didn't care! That says a lot right there. Great week, super relaxing, great fun! We watched the beautiful sunset every night while sipping sangria on our deck. Actually, we spent a lot of time on the deck. No A/C, but with the doors open and the fans going, it was like indoor/outdoor living.
Walk to food trucks (the Elephant Truck has amazing Thia food and a wonderful setting), Walk or a quick drive to Foodland and Coffee Bean. Great view of Sharks Cove, also a quick walk there and to Three Tables Beach. Great snorkeling also right off the shelf in front of the house.
Plane got delayed and Steve was so chill about letting us hang out a couple of extra hours after check out time. Mahalo for that!

Great Location and Fantastic home away from home
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Cool Breeze, Great Snorkeling, Yummy Barbecue, Beautiful Sunset, Great beach nearby. Fish taco, Shrimp truck, Foodland, Coffee shop, Wonderful sightseeing and what else can I think of. Oh, even the Green Gecko who greeted us all the time on the deck. Overall, just great home for family to gather. Group of 11 people and we loved all the minute we stayed. Steve was great dealing with necessary details and Elliot, who keeps place running was great as well. It has been almost a week and we miss the place already. Thank you Steve. We will certainly go back to the home away from home.

Slice of Paradise
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
This slice of paradise was the perfect place for our party of 11. Every morning was spent on the deck enjoying the morning breeze and sounds of the ocean and every night was spent admiring the beautiful hawaii sunset. We've been to hawaii several times and always stayed in Hotels in waikiki. We realized that although we stayed in waikiki we always spent most of our trips in the North Shore. So we decided this time to get a group together to live like the locals do and rent a house. This was probably the best decision we could've made. The house isn't huge or modern but it was still the perfect amount of room for all 11 of us. Complete with a kitchen and laundry, the cozy feel made it more like home.
There is no central a/c which is expected of most rentals we found. Fortunately there was an option of a/c units that were being put in when we arrived. The week we spent there was unusually hot and humid due to the tropical storms and we were thankful for a little relief from the portable a/c and many ceiling fans in the house. We did have a problem with the kitchen sink but one quick email to Steve and by the time we got out of the pool that morning it was up and running again.
Yes, there is a pool. It came in handy when it was so hot that we couldn't bring ourselves to walk to the beach. There's a beautiful and quiet beach with access half a block from the house or you could be adventurous and walk over the rocky yard.
Make sure you bring reef shoes if you stay here. You'll want to explore the tide pools that are right in your front yard. Lots of fun snorkeling on the property or at sharks cove right next door.
We spent almost every morning taking a stroll to Foodland and Coffee Bean a block away for a coffee run. The house is also just a 10 min car ride to Haleiwa where there is plenty of shopping and eating to do. 10 minutes in the other direction from the house are the shrimp trucks.
This house was pretty much perfect for our anniversary trip with our friends. Gated for privacy, great views, close to the beach, close to good food and shopping... what more could we ask for???... We eventually got used to the bugs that is common on beach property. Being city people, it was pretty entertaining to watch everyone's reaction when a bug came crawling across the floor. We didn't even mind the little geckos that hung out around the house.
We can't wait to come back here... Thank you, Steve, for sharing this slice of paradise with us!
