Description from owner

The Bluewater Star is a lovely 2-story beachfront home located on a 1/2 acre lot in Surfside, a small coastal community 35 miles south of Galveston. Over the years, our home has become a preferred destination for many families who return to our home year after year to spend quality time with their loved ones.

Nestled in the dunes on a large private lot that extends from Bluewater Highway all the way to the beach, this gives you unrestricted views of both the beach and the bay. Mere footsteps away from the beach, our home features wrap-around decks and a private walkway that extends off the back deck taking you straight over the dunes and to the beach. At the end of the walkway, a lovely gazebo offers shade and a place to relax away from the house. Outside speakers have been installed to allow you to listen to your favorite music. This is a wonderful place to relax with morning coffee while you watch the sunrise and a glass of wine as you watch the sunset.

The living room, with its soaring two-story ceiling provides an unobstructed view of the ocean from anywhere in the house.

Our kitchen is gorgeous and so organized, you'll love it! Lighting in and under the glass cabinets provide a lovely soft glow and our lower cabinets are all drawers stocked with all sizes of pots and pans and lovely platters and bowls, truly we have everything you need to prepare a gourmet meal. And, best of all the kitchen opens to the living room so you have the million-dollar view of the ocean as you prepare your meals. The living room has a wood-burning fireplace and over the mantle is a large flat-screen tv with cable, and netflix.

There are 4 bedrooms, two of which are masters with private baths. One master bedroom is downstairs, the other three bedrooms are upstairs. An added bonus is that all 4 bedrooms open out to a deck providing each guest with awesome bay or beach views. And each bedroom has a tv.

Adults love our home but kids are a priority too; the owners have two small children so there's lots of attention to detail for the little ones including two toddler beds, two cribs, a high-chair, small dining table, tons of games and books inside for all ages and sand pails and beach toys located under the house. In the bunkbed room we have a wii and a playstation 2, along with several remotes. The space under the stairs on the main floor has also been converted to a tiny Harry Potter bedroom, complete with bed and tv that is a hit with the 6 and under crowd.

Outside the house are two large picnic tables for eating under the stars and lots of plastic chairs are available for outside lounging or to take down to the beach. Under the house is a barbecue grill as well as a two-seater kayak. We keep life jackets for both adults and children inside the house. Lots of sand pails, shovels and molds are kept under the house for litte ones to take down to the beach to make sandcastles. We also have a 17-ft boat that can be rented during your stay, please contact us for details.

Inside, we keep lots of games and books for all ages for those rare rainy days.

Summer is not the only season to visit the coast. Offseason offers empty beaches and cheaper lodging and an opportunity to enjoy the tranquil surroundings and slower pace without the crowds. We offer minimum stays of three-nights during the Fall, Winter and Spring. During the summer we only offer week-long rentals. If you are interested in a specific date, please book quickly, they go fast.

About the area

Surfside Village is a small beach town on the Texas Gulf Coast. Galveston is a scenic half hour drive up the coast. Our house is in the perfect location - close enough to enjoy the tourism of Galveston and all its attractions and far enough away to enjoy the unspoiled beaches and charm of a small beach community. Lake Jackson, population of about 50,000, is nearby and has a lot to offer the entire family. Be sure to check out the Brazosport Arts and Science Center, visit the planetarium, theatre, fish hatchery. A museum there houses the largest seashell exhibit in North America. Bring your shells in for identification. There is also a public golf course. Summer is not the only time to visit the beach. Offseason has advantages too, especially for those who crave a break from their hectic lives. Offseason, the lodging is cheaper and the beaches in Surfside are empty and forgotten - you can take a walk without seeing another soul. There are no city streets so the only sounds you hear are those found in nature and at night you'll be absolutely amazed and delighted by the number of stars you are able to see. Inside our beautiful home you are surrounded by the comforts of civilized life including high-speed internet so you can stay connected to the outside world. In the winter, curl up next to a cozy fire, with a soft blanket and a good book and watch the waves from the comfort of the couch. Or sharpen your culinary skills in our well-appointed kitchen. Peruse our cookbooks and try your hand at hearty dishes - recipes like cioppino, paella, stews, chowders, chilis - that take more time and patience than you usually have.

Getting around

You'll need a car. A lot of folks also rent golf carts. We have a 17-foot boat that can be rented for an additional cost.

Getting here

From Houston take 288 South all the way through Lake Jackson, exit 332 Surfside, stay on that until you run into Bluewater Highway. Make a left, go exactly 1.8 miles and we are on the right side, directly across from Perry's food store.

Interaction with guest

We live in Houston, which is only an hour away from Surfside. My husband and I are on call for you during your stay and will answer calls, emails and texts.

“What a fantastic find!”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2016

Our family of five stayed at the Bluewater Star in the fall of 2016. The house is very comfortable and nicely decorated. The view from the house is amazing. My wife loved the kitchen which was well stocked with everything one would need to provide meals. The house is kid friendly with beach toys, games and a reading nook. The beach was clean and we had the beach pretty much to ourselves which was great. Barbara, the owner was truly accommodating. We enjoyed our stay and plan to return.

“Wonderful family holiday”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2016

Our family of 10 spent the Memorial Weekend (3 nights) at this wonderfully appointed home which is just a pleasant walk on a private walkway with pergola along the way. The kitchen is very well stocked, a clean refrig and freezer awaited us--all the things that are listed as being there, are! The beds were comfortable. Our four grandchildren are older, so we took some inflatable mattresses for two of them to use (too big for bunk beds) which we placed in the family room and then stored in the master bedroom for the day. The living area was spacious and there was ample seating for eating meals for the 10 of us. I especially liked the view! I would highly recommend this beach rental home.

“Such a wonderfully relaxing vacation”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2016

As always, Barbra has everything we need and such a clean a beautiful home. We walked the beach, looked for shells, watched the waves from indoors. And enjoyed the beautiful, spacious home together, as a family. Or there's enough space to be on your own if you want. The kitchen is so well stocked with cooking items, we always try out a new dish from the fresh fish found in Freeport, just a few minutes away. We usually have no want to go anywhere else. We have everything we need and it is so much more relaxing than busier places like Galveston. We will continue coming back year after year! Thank you Barbra!!

“Wonderful Thanksgiving Retreat”

Reviewed 20 Dec 2015

This was the most wonderful home to spend our Thanksgiving week! This beach house was well set up for our family of 9 and had such beautiful views of the beach and ocean. I cannot stress how comfortable we felt in the home and how well stocked the kitchen was. Barbara (owner) was so friendly and easy to work with. She made sure that we had everything we needed and was very accommodating throughout the process and never hesitated to answer any of our questions. Thank you so much, Barbara, for being so warm, friendly and taking care of us! We look forward to staying in your inviting home as soon as we can!

WE had a wonderful anniversary staying at the house in Galveston. It's right on the beach as promised. We'd stay there again.

“A great week!!!”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2015

What a great spot on the beach----the owners are very responsive and accommodating. Barbara just makes sure you have everything. The kitchen was perfect with everything you need to cook for a large group. The new Suoer HEB in Lake Jackson has everything you need to make the visit work better. The GrapeTaste Wine Bar and Restaurant is a good spot for dinner in Lake Jackson. We WILL be back here as Barb will grease the skids for our next landing here. A +++

“Absolutely Wonderful”

We had a wonderful stay. The home and property are beautiful and the accomodations are great. The owners were fantastic to work with from our first inquiry on the property and at every point through our stay. I expect that we will return in the future!

“Great place -- highly recommended”

Reviewed 3 Feb 2015

I have taken my family to this property for week-long stays each winter for 2012 through 2014, and have now booked for Feb 2015. The house is very nice, and the location is pleasantly quiet (not in the fray with a lot of hotels or other rental beach properties like you might get in Galveston). The kitchen is large and has everything you might need for preparing large, complicated meals. Especially great if you have a large group -- lots of beds, and a very nice master suite so mom & dad can have some privacy. Large windows afford a great view. The hosts have always provided excellent, friendly service.

“We love the Bluewater Star!”

Reviewed 20 Dec 2014

This was our second stay at the Bluewater Star. We love it! The house and location are spectacular and there are games, books, toys, children's furniture - almost anything you could ask for to enhance your stay. The kitchen is large and well equipped, making cooking with the family a real pleasure. The house is well maintained and was very clean and welcoming when we arrived. Barbara had even set up a Christmas tree and other decorations! Also very helpful is the information Barbara sends to you ahead of time with great directions and suggestions for shopping, eating out, activities in the area, etc. We're already looking forward to our next visit and plan to make it a family tradition.

“Thanksgiving Holiday”

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home. Well appointed and cared for. Everything was there that we needed and the kitchen was to die for. Did not plan to cook much but could not pass up the opportunity to use the kitchen. Owner was available as needed and very cordial. Loved it.
