“Great Place to Gather with Family.”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2014

We had family coming and going during our week stay, and it felt like home as we welcomed them into our "second" home. All the amenities we needed were there. The location was private compared to others nearby. We were centrally located to everything. While the rooms were not as spacious as newer, more expensive homes, they were roomy and very comfortable for our large crew. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean and nicely decorated. The dock was a hike to get to but who cares when you're enjoying a vacation in the mountains. It was very relaxing, we would go back again.

Owner's reply: David: Thank you for your kind review. We hope that you will return soon. John

“Home Away From Home”

We were a group of eleven (11) family members celebrating a 50th birthday for a weekend. Our ages ranged from 21-75. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we never left the comforts of our homes, especially with the completely equipped kitchen. With the well designed layout of the house, at no time did any of our family members feel like they were on top of one another. The weekend we were there was unseasonably hot. The wooded lot enabled us to open the windows for a cool breeze throughout the house. We were so comfortable in our surrounding that some items were left behind. Mr. Johns, the owner, was kind enough to locate those items, pack them up and ship them back to us at cost. He goes out of his way for his clients and makes himself very accessible to communicate with. We look forward to renting again in the spring or summer months, when we can take advantage of the water activities in the area. The Meyer Family

“Great Place to Stay”

We spent our Thanksgiving here with family which included small children. There was plenty of space. The house and kitchen were well equipped. There were movies, internet, TV and games for all to use. Working with the owner was very easy and he was very prompt in answering our e-mail questions.

Nice at the price. Not on water, but not a far walk to its private dock. Close to the state park with its beach, launch ramp & discovery center. Good for having the grandkids around, quiet area, off the main road, good size yard for play and well wooded back lot. Great 2 level covered deck with views of deer, hawks, chipmunks walking nearby that thrilled kids; has hot tub on lower level; picnic tables for large outdoor bbq, nice gas grill. Rustic feel with log exterior, knotty pine interior and homey furnishing. The beds are good sleepers. Kitchen well supplied with utensils. It is a nice place, not pretentious or upscale, but definitely comfortable. Only shortcoming is the small washer/dryer unit but we were able to work around that. The owner is great to work with.

Owner's reply: We are so glad that you found the house so suitable for your group. One of the nice features is that it is so roomy to spread out a group of 12. I am sure the kids enjoyed playing the Wii. Deer frequently graze the lawn, and chipmunks are everywhere. We also enjoy the homey atmosphere of the house.

We stayed at 72 White Oak dr for 3 nights and really liked it. The house is nice and, what's most important, very clean which is not always the case. It has all necessities to make the stay comfortable. The area around is really nice and the lake is right at the doorstep. Large nice park is just a few minutes away as well - hiking, boating and more..overall - great experience, will definitely come back!

We stayed over a weekend with our friends at this place. It was a very nice, clean and cozy cabin. The reason that I am not giving a 5 star rating to this place is because of a minor issue that we had with the hot tub. On our second day, we needed to refill the hot tub and there was no hose in the cabin. We were instructed to fill out the hot tub using a big trash can (a fairy clean one ...). We eventually were able to make it but a hose for such circumstances is really needed at the cabin. Everything else was fine, we will definitely consider staying at this cabin for our next vacation.

Cross Country Ski Trip

Six of us stayed at the White Oak Lodge for a couple of nights (2 adults and 4 scouts) so that we could go cross country skiing nearby. The place was very clean and roomy, and we certainly could have fit at least another 4 boys. The boys loved the wii and the wifi, and we also made use of the hot tub and fire pit. There was also plenty of room to play outside at night in the snow.

We traveled to Deep Creek in May 2016 with 9 adults and 2 children. This rental was very nice. We really appreciated the 3 bathrooms and multiple bedrooms. It had lots of space and even room at the dinner table for everyone. It was a short drive to McHenry where all the commercialized things are. They do have dock access although we did not use it. We wish it had more shrubs to increase privacy but we didn't have any issues with neighbors. Our overall opinion of the lake was mediocre mainly due to the fact that we had small children who couldn't participate in what the lake had to offer. We would stay again, maybe when the kids are older. Very impressed by the condition of the home and the cookware. Most times, rental have poor quality kitchen gadgets but not this one.
