Description of the Taos vacation home rental
Casa de Cuentos - House of Stories -3400-square feet COZY and LUXURIOUS home- a picture-perfect place to BE to find your 'story.' Tranquil and mystical, your daydreams and nightdreams here will delight you. Located halfway between the town of Taos and the Taos Ski Valley, our adobe 'home-away-from-home' is private YET close to everything you may want to do while in the Taos area... IF you feel like leaving. (15 minutes to town and 20 minutes to ski.)

We are convinced you will love our home as much as we do and not care to leave the premises often, yet you could choose to do so with ease. Our hot tub, den-bar area, art studio, and game/movie and book library will provide lots of entertainment. Sit by one of the four Kiva fireplaces and Firepit Courtyard area to dream stories, tell stories or write stories.

Wood-beamed ceilings, wood and saltillo tiles throughout add to the warmth and tenderness of Casa de Cuentos. There is a separate recreation room area with additional living room and Kiva if one needs space from others while visiting. A beautifully, talavera-tiled breakfast bar sits in-between open kitchen/dining area.

CASA de Cuentos: The main house has 4 bedrooms (a KING bed in master and QUEEN beds in the other two bedrooms-.the 4th being a art/studio- living area-mini-kitchen with sleeping-built in XL Twin beds) and 2 bathrooms (one with a large shower and the master bathroom has a deep, soaking tub) and a HUGE den with a BAR and BEER COOLER-with extra sleeping space. (There are three living areas where extra aero beds supplied if needed-up to 12.) You have fabulous views of the mountains out the north-side: large windows frame the mountains perfectly and let them into the living/dining area. To the south - you have expansive views of the valley and hot air balloons can be viewed floating eye-level or below in the distance. Daytime: Taos-turquoise blue skies during the day and STARS in the night-sky are so close you can touch them while sitting in the hot tub in the courtyard. (I just got out of the hot tub and I need to report there are more stars here than I ever knew existed...it is 'plum' full of stars--as my Grandma used to say.)

The views from the second-story NEW art-studio-living-mini-kitchen area are THEE best in Taos--360 degrees of turquoise skies and mountains and sunrises and sunsets. Watch the moon rise, watch the sun rise and sun set..from the art studio-heaven!

Pinons and sagebrush are the native plants that blanket the grounds of Casa de Cuentos and their sweet smells are all of the aromatherapy you will need while at this tranquil adobe. Two outdoor living areas: a deck with a hot tub in N.E. courtyard with new flagstone patio with a built-in firepit facing the mountains and a new patio on the South-side facing the valley. The NorthEast courtyard has a huge fenced in area (fence is 6-ft. tall) for dogs' pleasure and well-being.

Beginning supplies of: basic spices, laundry soap, shower/bath gel, paper products and firewood all provided.

Casa de Cuentos - the perfect place for a few people to have solitude and/or for a family or two to come together to share and create more life stories.

(Can you tell Dave loves to design and build?)

Guest comment : My husband and I, our two grown daughters, son-in-law and grandson had the best vacation ever at Casa de Cuentos! The home is cozy and warm -- very relaxing and peaceful, comfortably furnished and well maintained. Our family could not have been made to feel more at home. The views from the living room and dining room windows are spectacular. The location is secluded but also convenient to both town and the ski valley. We will absolutely stay here again.

Guest Comment: A magical place! The photos do not do it justice -- it is serene, romantic, beautiful, peaceful, idyllic... My boyfriend and I were so inspired we decided to get married while we were there! My Mom and brother were so inspired at what we did, they mended relations after years! The magic continuesThanks to Tammi and Dave!

Area Information
Taos, New Mexico, was one of the first art colonies in the United States, and for good reason. The technicolor landscape surrounding this city, located on a mesa at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, inspired the likes of Georgia O'Keeffe, Robert Henri, Ernest Blumenschein and Bert Phillips. Taos is quite small, with a population of 5,700, but it packs a huge artistic and cultural punch.

Many of the buildings are adobe structures, conferring on the city a true southwestern style. In fact, one of the favorite tourist spots in the area is the adobe Taos Pueblo. This National Historic Landmark, located 10 minutes northeast of the city center, is actually an inhabited community. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Seeing this 1,000-year-old village is one of the great things to do with kids in Taos, especially since children under 10 are admitted free of charge.

Taos visitors also enjoy skiing in Carson National Forest, about an hour and a half drive away from downtown. Taos Ski Valley, Red River and Sipapu Ski all offer opportunities to participate in a variety of winter sports, including cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and snowshoeing. Skiing on the beginner or intermediate slopes at the Angel Fire Resort is one of the best things to do with kids.

Tourists in Taos interested in its rich arts history should plan a visit to the Blumenschein Home and Museum on Ledoux Street. This museum, named for artist Earnest Blumenschein, features not only his works, but also the works of his wife, Mary Blumenschein, and other members of the Taos Society of artists, the art colony he helped form. The home is another National Historic Landmark in this little city. One other historic home no one visiting Taos should miss is the Hacienda de los Martinez, a 21-room adobe fortress-style house built in 1804.

Visitors who drive 10 minutes south of downtown discover the San Francisco de Asis Mission Church. This church, constructed in the late 1700s in the Spanish Colonial adobe style, is another National Historic Landmark and one of the top tourist spots around Taos.

Around the block and north of the church is the Ranchos Plaza Grill. The restaurant, occupying an old adobe hacienda, serves authentic New Mexican food. One key ingredient is chili caribe, a specially ground chili. Favorite plates here include the Plato de Chile Rellenos and the Enchilades de Carne Adovada. Locals recommend the sopapillas.

The Adobe Bar is the place to see and be seen in Taos. Live music, a friendly staff and a range of cocktails draw visitors as well as locals to this drinking hole, located within the Historic Taos Inn. Patrons may sip on a "Baby Buddha" or "Fire on the Mountain" margarita while listening to the likes of Susan Gibson, The Monkey Feeders and The Old Way. Embracing genres from flamenco to jazz, and from gospel to native folk music, the "Living Room of Taos" places no limits on fun.
