Description of the Taos vacation home rental
This beautiful and luxurious Southwest style 4 BR home is perfectly sited 9 miles from Taos Plaza in one direction and 9 from Taos Ski Valley in the other. It's one mile outside the artists' enclave of Arroyo Seco (the second cutest town in New Mexico), and is a home you immediately feel comfortable in. (Read our great guest reviews on airbnb.)
We've furnished it with eclectic Southwest and Asian antiques, roomy leather couches and even a tiny table and chairs for kids' projects. There are 3 Kiva fireplaces, skylights everywhere, an indoor pool for residents and guests. In summer, a tennis court with a basketball hoop.
Because we don't have the city lights of Taos proper, our stars at night are astonishing. (And no, we're not talking about Julia Roberts!) There's a private hot tub for secluded stargazing year round, two patios for dining and lounging, the one in front has stunning views of El Monte Sagrado, and in back, views of the valley toward Taos and spectacular sunsets. There are also 2 barbeque grills, loads of firewood for cold winter nights, and DTV with Sunday ticket, so you can record up to 5 games and watch them when you get back from a hard day on the slopes.
There are two Master Bedrooms with King beds and their own double sink, en suite baths, and a Queen BR with it's own fireplace and a private door to the West Patio and hot tub. For kids, or young at heart adults, 4 comfortable bunk beds with down comforters. The kitchen is well equipped for the gourmet cook, and the area has wonderful restaurants for gourmet cooks who want a relaxing vacation.

Area Information
Start with the recent wonders: Taos Ski Valley, newly renovated and promising to enhance the old slogan ('Taos: a 4 Letter Word for "steep") with even more lifts. The Chili Line runs multiple trips, and it's 10 minutes from the house, which because it's in the valley has sunshine all day long. Skiing in shirt sleeves is one of our favorite things.
Taos Valley and environs has more working artists than almost any place we know of, and their work fills the many galleries in both Taos and Arroyo Seco. Many of them were drawn here beginning in the early 19th Centurey by the natural wonders of wind sculpted mesas stretching across the high desert, breath-taking sunsets, the phenomenon of 'Walking Rain,' and vast vistas of sage, juniper and pinion sweeping up to the beautiful Sangre de Cristo mountain range. All these phenomena contribute to an experience of beauty no other place in America can boast of - much of it protected from development by the many Native American Reservations still vibrant in the area.
The unique culture created by old Hispanic families, Native Americans, (some of whose festivals are open to the public), and 60's Hippies who stayed in Taos and thrived make the area completely unique.
There is much here for the lover of architecture: Hispanic churches and adobe homes from the 1700's, original and still inhabited Pueblo dwellings, Taos' unique 'Hippie' Earthship communities, dedicated to living 'off the grid.'
Nearby are the famous mud bath and Hot Mineral Springs of Ojo Caliente, now a luxury spa, White Sands National Monument, the Rio Grande Gorge, Earthships, painting, yoga and spiritual retreats at Georgia O'Keefe ranch in Abiquiu, known as Ghost Ranch. and The Kouse-Sharp Foundation in Taos are just a few.
