Climate

Thanks to its location in Texas Hill Country, Canyon Lake stays relatively warm year-round. With its lakefront setting, it’s easy to catch some breeze in just about any kind of weather. Summer temperatures typically top out around 95 degrees, while winter highs are usually in the 60s. June is generally the rainiest month each year, so if you would rather leave your umbrella at home, plan your visit in January or February.

Transit

Canyon Lake is located in Central Texas and is an easy drive from San Antonio or Austin. If you’re traveling from across the country, fly into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, about 70 miles northeast of the lake, or San Antonio International Airport, about 35 miles southwest of Canyon Lake. For quick access to your choice of Canyon Lake vacation rentals and all of the attractions in Hill Country, be sure to rent a car to get around.

Things to Do

The biggest attraction in the Canyon Lake area is the lake itself, which offers numerous watersports, along with swimming and fishing. Explore the lake by kayak or boat, or go diving for a unique underwater perspective. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even go parasailing hundreds of feet above the lake or explore the Canyon Lake Gorge for a guided walking tour that’s both educational and beautiful. For a relaxing day with friends or family skip the lake and head to the river instead. Grab some inner tubes and float down the Guadalupe River under the warm Texas sun. This river helped Canyon Lake earn its nickname as the “Water Recreational Capital of Texas.”

The Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country is another location that kids and adults will find interesting. The museum features outdoor exhibits, dinosaur tracks, and Native American artifacts.
