Description of the Todd vacation cabin rental
If you are looking for a riverfront cabin in the North Carolina High Country, this is it!

Riverhouse at Meadow Landing is a 3 bedroom, 2 full bath and 2 half-bath cabin located on the South Fork of the New River in Todd. It's very convenient to Boone and West Jefferson (20-minute drive) and has easy access year round. The location is on the east side of the High Country (10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway) so from Charlotte and Raleigh and points east you don't have to fight town traffic to get here once you get to the top of the mountain.

So, here's what you'll find when you walk in the door: foyer opens to the big open kitchen that is fully equipped and has lots of counter space and eat-in bar with two stools. You've got an open floor plan to the living area with pull-out couch, recliner and additional seating. Living room has a flatscreen satellite TV mounted above the gas-log fireplace and a big bank of windows looking out over the river and mountains beyond. There's also a dining area with table and seating for six. Off the living room area, there's a half-bath/laundry area combo. You also have a master bedroom (king bed) and second bedroom (two twin beds) which share a full bath that is located between them.
Stairs from the living area will take you to the lower level where you will find a second, smaller kitchen, sitting area with card table and futon, full bath, a second half-bath and an oversized third bedroom (2 full beds).

We have DSL Wi-Fi internet so you can surf or grab your emails and a collection of board games stowed in the second upstairs bedroom for rainy days or late evenings. Also we've put in a DVD player with a second TV in there.

Now, for the outside. There's a small covered porch at the main entrance and off the river side of the cabin you have two decks. Upper deck is large and open with a gas grill. Second deck beneath, accessible by steps or from lower level, is covered. Lots of lawn - almost an acre and it's almost all flat! Great for a cookout and a tossing around a football!

In the garage, you will find an assortment of bikes. The road that brings you to the cabin is one of the best known, flattest, and most scenic routes for bicycling in all of North Carolina. You will also find tubes in the garage for summer days when you want to float down the river. It's just a matter of walking down the lawn and stepping down the river bank to jump in! The owners have also built a fire pit down near the river and there's firewood in the garage if you want to build a campfire in the evening. Plenty of outdoor chairs, so there's no need to bring your own.

This is a really great cabin and we think you'll enjoy your stay here. If you have any questions about it, just let us know!

Cozy home on the New River

Great home with spacious rooms, awesome kitchen, and spectacular views. Was an ideal getaway for a summer trip in the mountains. We loved the Todd, NC area as it was low key and away from Boone but yet close enough to drive in if we needed to. The cafe about 1.5 miles away was fantastic for breakfast we went there every morning! I would definitely recommend this rental home.

We highly recommend this wonderful mountain cabin for the perfect get-away for a weekend,or better yet, for a week or two. When we walked in the door, the beauty of the house and its surroundings had an instant impact, helping us relax and enjoy our incredible vacation. The cabin is extremely clean and well equipped with all appliances in working order. The layout of the cabin is wonderful, especially for families with children, or for two families to share. It also works very well for teenagers and their friends to enjoy their own space downstairs, while adults have some quiet time upstairs. Having a kitchen downstairs and one upstairs was terrific. The upstairs kitchen is large and incredibly well equipped so cooking meals at the cabin is a great option, especially for those on a budget. The large lawn is wonderful for all kinds of sports. We have enjoyed playing soccer, softball, and Bocce ball. The fire pit is great for a camp fire and making s'mores and our teenagers even spent a night camping in a tent near the river. The upper deck is perfect for sitting and relaxing and enjoying the sound of the river. There is a large gas grill on the deck and we enjoyed fresh grilled salmon and vegetables while we were there. Tubing and kayaking can begin right in front of the cabin. There are rock steps going down from the bank into the river. Railroad Grade Road, which parallels the river and is in front of the house, is perfect for biking for all ages, as the road is flat making it easy to pedal. Our family also enjoys visits to nearby Todd where there is a great general store with delicious lunches, a park, and a place to rent tubes, kayaks, and bicycles. The excellent location of the house allows for easy day trips to West Jefferson, Boone, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, the ski areas, and many more. After a busy day out, coming home to the beautiful and peaceful cabin is the perfect way to end the day! We will definitely be staying in this cabin again.

We stayed the weekend and had a wonderful time. The house is spacious and relaxing. It is new construction with new fixtures and appliances gas fireplace. Very clean and has everything you will need. Only a short drive to Boone and all the ski slopes. River is literally right out the back door for tubing and fishing. This is a comfortable place for a family getaway. We would definitely love to stay here again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will my cell phone work here?
A: Depends on your carrier. Verizon has a couple of bars, especially outside on the deck. AT&T doesn't work. Cell phone companies are working on it, but still not full coverage in the mountains. We do have phones in the house with local service and we'll give you the local number before you arrive so friends and family can stay in touch.
Q: Do I need 4WD?
A: No, not normally. The only exception would be severe winter weather and snow storms which are known to come through the mountains on occasion.
