Welcome to your own Smoky Mountain retreat! Hideaway on the Creek is a beautifully restored, cozy log cabin on 1.42 acres with a creek flowing in the front yard. Hideaway offers wooded privacy in every direction and an ideal location only 3/4 mile from Hwy 321, near the center of Townsend, 3.5 miles from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many of our guests comment about how quiet and secluded Hideaway's setting is.

Hideaway on the Creek is a comfortable, clean, well-appointed home…not another cookie-cutter, look-alike, strip-down vacation rental unit. One bedroom, spacious 30- x 12-foot living/dining room with wood-burning fireplace, well-equipped kitchen, and full bath are all on one level (the upper level; the lower level is for storage only). The beautifully remodeled kitchen features a custom-designed
stained glass backsplash, quartz countertops, new cabinets, and antique Hoosier hutch/cabinet. Hideaway has new solid hardwood floors throughout.

The cabin is newly decorated with antiques, comfortable furnishings, new memory foam mattress, and local works of art. Our unique décor reflects the natural beauty and serenity of the Smoky Mountain setting.

We focus on anticipating our guests' needs and providing the amenities you want and need. Spices, coffee/tea, cleaning supplies, ample paper products...organic, eco-friendly, spa-grade toiletries...area resource books, novels, games, puzzles. We have encased all boxsprings, mattresses, and pillows in bed bug, allergen protective covers. Our guests are surprised to find the many extras that make Hideaway on the Creek truly feel like a home away from home.

Relax in the hammock by the creek, grill out on the large deck, or listen to the creek from the covered front porch. One of the first vacation rental cabins in Townsend, Hideaway has been lovingly maintained and renovated over the years.

Hideaway sleeps up to 4 people in a queen size bed and sofa sleeper.

Pets welcome.

Hideaway on the Creek is pleased to support several deserving charities, including Great Smoky Mountains Assn., The Nature Conservancy, National Parks Conservation, The Audubon Society, World Wildlife Fund, Artistic Spectrum, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee, and The Angel Tree.

Hideaway on the Creek

July 17, 2016

Just returned from a great getaway vacation at Hideaway on the Creek. Great experience, good accommodations, and everything we wanted to see was within easy driving distance. Very secluded, felt like we were in a world of our own, with only the sounds of nature to listen to. Rob and Myra have thought of everything you might need, all amenities included (great gourmet coffee and bath lotions), and clean as a pin! Thanks for providing us with a little taste of home away from home! Definitely recommend, and will travel here again in the future.

Owner's reply:

Thanks so much for the kind, thoughtful review, Scott and Kathy. Thanks also for leaving the cabin in such good condition. You're certainly welcome back anytime! Enjoy the rest of your summer. ~Myra

Hi everyone reading this review. I want to be upfront and say that my wife is related by a relative's marriage to the owner. Regardless, I would not post this review unless I believed in it. The purpose of this review is to not describe the property. (The property is well and accurately described in the property's listing.) Rather, dear reader, it is to describe the experience of a stay at Hideaway. The cabin is situated on a narrow two way paved country lane into a hollow that dead-ends about 100 yards past the chalet. So, road traffic is minimal. It faces across the lane a large meadow that is kept mowed, and is an untrampled and lovely open green space. Across the meadow is a thick cove of trees that climb the hollow's side. The overall appearance of Hideaway's surroundings is very peaceful, verdant and bucolic. I have enjoyed staying at Hideaway several times, and on each occasion it remains a special happy place for me and my wife where we recharge, renew, and increase the family narrative of joy, love, connection and fellowship. It is a place where the sublime beauty of nature coupled with the convenience of a lovely and fully equipped cabin washes away the numbing stress and tumult of "the real world", restores the soul, and reorients the compass of the mind and heart toward what is important and needed. Blessings to all who share this unique and beautiful place.

Myra and Rob Southern-Wright

Owner's reply:

Thanks so much for your positive, honest, and eloquent review, Steve. You and your lovely wife are certainly welcome at any of our homes, and we look forward to seeing you later this year. ~Myra

This was our 3rd stay in less than a year. Perfect setting to relax and unwind. Very close to the park so we did not have to travel far to hike & photograph. Myra & Rob take care of every little detail. We could have just sat on the deck and listened to the creek and been perfectly content. Extremely clean and quite location. We will be returning for sure.

Thanks for your kind review, Darlene and Steve! We're so delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Hideaway on the Creek, and you're always welcome back. I hope you got some great photos again this visit!

ideal in many ways
Location provides solitude but is only minutes from restaurants, shops, and national park. Amenities impressed: kids had zero complaints with tv or internet speed. And, the shower remained hot despite the frigid temps outside. Owners were the kindest people to work with. And, the 5 acre meadow (a short walk down the road) had the dog and kids running outside; loved it and glad to have made the trip. Thanks!

Location excellent: great solitude but minutes from restaurants, shops, and national park. Amenities impressed: hot shower despite frigid temps and no complaints from my kids with the wifi speed (that is rare). Owners were the epitome of professional and so kind. Best feature is the 5 acre meadow down the road that had the kids and dog out of the house and running around. thanks much...

great location: fantastic solitude but 10 minutes away from shops and restaurants... also fantastic amenities: wifi surprised my kids with its speed and hot water heater impressed with warm showers despite the frigid weather outside.... for families and pet owners - the 5 acre meadow a short walk down the road is just what we needed to get everyone moving.... owners were so kind.... glad we booked....

An enjoyable home to stay at in an ice storm
My husband and I had originally booked another cabin in the area but the ice storm had that owner very worried about our safety driving that she cancelled any guests enroute. I was able to call up Myra after finding this cabin available. She was great even though it was extremely short notice. I really enjoyed the cabin, it was secluded, full of amenities, and a perfect cabin to make as our base for winter hiking. The ice storm while it shut down many businesses and the entire state was nothing compared to what we were used to in ohio so we ended up having the town and hikes to ourselves. Thanks again for helping us have our adventure!

I love Southern-Wright
I've stayed at Hideaway multiple times. I was scheduled to stay this month, but a family emergency changed my plans. I contacted Myra straightaway, and she was very kind and helpful. I was more than a month away from my stay, so she refunded my deposit - and did so very quickly. She also sent a very kind note expressing sympathy for my loss. Myra & Rob have always been very responsive when I call or email - from my very first visit on. And they think of little details that other cabins don't provide...like leaving treats for my dog. Hideaway is always beautifully maintained, too. I have stayed in many Townsend cabins; this one is far & away the best. Great amenities & the best owner-manager team around.

Outstanding getaway!!
We found this wonderful cabin through an internet search. We feel like we hit the jackpot. This is a wonderful place in a quiet secluded location that provided access to everything we wanted to do/see while in the Smoky Mtns. Close to hiking trails, restaurants and sights and scenery without end. We had everything we needed, which made this cabin one that we are sure to come back to in the future. We highly recommend you look into it.

Hideaway has everything you need whether you are looking for just a quick weekend getaway or an extended vacation. Plenty of attractions and restaurants at your fingertips. I will definitely be back again and again. Highly recommended!

Spring break with my daughter was so fun in this cabin...I loved the locks and knobs - it reminded me of my grandparents house. Very clean too! My favorite thing was drinking coffee on the porch listening to the brook. We will be back!

Home away from Home
We love staying at Hideaway on the Creek because it is so comfortable and well-supplied. It is very clean and cozy. There are many considerate touches with a kitchen ready for cooking (something I enjoy, even on vacation.) The owners have also provided information about the area and reading materials. We plan on renting it in the future because it really does feel like a home away from home.

Beautiful, clean, well maintained mountain retreat
This was the perfect couple's retreat. It feels secluded and quiet - the babbling brook that runs in front of the property is wonderful. It's also very close to the National Park. The house itself was great - the owners obviously care a great deal for this home and it shows. Some nice touches were the complimentary coffee, the toiletries, and all the information and guide books for the area. We were sad when our vacation came to an end and we had to say goodbye to the Hideaway on the Creek.

5 Stars: June 11, 2015
Great cabin and exactly what we needed!
Cabin was beautiful and we would love to stay again. Off the main road so it was very quieter and relaxing! Everything we needed was provided! Looking forward to coming back to the area and if we do we will rent Hideaway or possibly Owls Hoot if we bring friends or kids next time!

Surrounded by nature yet close to town
This was a wonderful location for my husband and I. It was near Townsend, so we got good cell service, and internet. It is located on a beautiful, wooded, dead-end road, so it was very quiet and peaceful. The home was well stocked with everything we needed. The owner kept bird feeders stocked, so it was nice to watch the birds from the covered porch. It rained every day while we were there, and so the deck did not get a chance to dry out in between rain showers, so it was super slick. It is the upper floor that it rented out, so if you are handicapped or can't climb stairs, then this is not the place for you. It was perfect for us though, and the upper floor gave us a good viewpoint to watch for birds. The nice owners take good care of this place and are easy to work with. I will be telling my friends about this wonderful place!

Perfection! A lovely quaint cabin.
Hideaway is a beautiful, clean, cozy cabin, in a perfect location, tucked away in a quiet, sweet town. Many options of great restaurants nearby. Well appointed amenities, fully equipped kitchen, and a very comfy bed!! No lumps or bumps here. Myra was a joy to work with. She promptly responded to all my questions and emails. We will definitely add Hideaway to our "favorites" list. Can't wait to come back!!

Great cabin, even better owners!
My wife and I spent our honeymoon here at the Hideaway and loved every second of it. It all began with joy when my wife opened up the kitchen drawers to find a fully stocked kitchen and shouted "I love amenities!" However, we experienced what I'm sure is every vacation homeowner's worst nightmare: something went wrong. The sink and bathtub didn't drain one morning. But all I did was send one quick email to the owners and within an hour they were there fixing the problem AND leaving my wife and me a bottle of local wine and a note that said "The drain should be all fixed, sorry for the inconvenience. Oh, and Congratulations!" Their friendliness, professionalism, and care for our experience was evident and made me very happy to have stayed in their lovely cabin. I highly recommend both Hideaway and Owls Hoot simply because Rob and Myra are so great and care so much.

Relaxing
The cabin was very well appointed. The kitchen was large enough for both my daughter and I to prep and cook together. We also loved all the historical books about the area and the binders with the local info. Vacation to us is all about nature, family, and very minimal technology and this place was great! We could use the internet if needed and watch a movie but we enjoyed sitting on the porch much more, listening to the creek, listening to the owls, and keeping watch in case the bears in the area walked by. Thank you so much for having a very clean and home and lovely vintage furnishings. I came home very relaxed and ready to teach in my classroom this fall.

The Best
The best location and absolutely the best owners. Myra & Rob made our stay the very best we have ever had. This is the most peaceful location we have stayed in. The attention to detail was awesome, from the local coffee to the dog treats for our dog. We've stayed in a lot of "corporate" cabins and they do not stand up to the care and service Myra & Rob provide. Close to great food and the park, exceptionally clean. My wife has had a very stressful 12 months and I promised her she would be able to wind down on this trip, Hideaway did not disappoint.

Found a little gem
We wanted to stay somewhere near Cades Cove because we planned to hike all weekend. This lovely cabin exceeded our expectations. The ride to Cade's Cove is short and we had a blast. The cabin itself is adorable. So well maintained with a great kitchen to cook in. Amenities??? Tons. Thought it was so nice upon arrival to see local coffee samples as I am a coffee lover. The fact that the bathroom has spa like samples to use in the shower was another nice touch. We loved playing cards and apples to apples located at the cabin - great family time after out long hikes. Loved the quite porch every morning. Our sweet lil dog Kita had a great time. She was so pleased to find The cutest doggie bowls and mat. Made us all feel at home. Will be recommending this cabin. It was a quick trip to Pigeon Forge is you wanted to go but I loved Townsend. Great bike/walking trail runs along the main road. Excellent for morning walks with our dog.

Truly a Hideaway
Although our stay started with a bit of a hiccup, Rob came as soon as possible and repaired the broken water line. After that, things flowed smoothly the entire time. The cabin was very well maintained, clean and inviting. The kitchen was stocked well and allowed us to have meals at the cabin. Unfortunately, the weather was chilly and prevented any outside cooking on the deck. It was easy to find and we were very pleased with our stay. There were amenities I've never seen before. We would recommend this cabin to family and friends. I found one of my favorite things in Townsend close to the end of our visit. It was The Chocolate Bar. Good thing it was close to the end or I would have gained 10 pounds eating their scrumptious goodies!!! Townsend is definitely the place to stay for those seeking quiet. Cades Cove is glorious and deserves more than one visit.

Quiet get away!
This was exactly as depicted/described: Quiet, rustic yet VERY clean and well maintained. The outdoor patio with lights was BEAUTIFUL at night! The small stream in front of the cabin was perfect to listen to while rocking on the front porch. The location was also nice: off the beaten/noisy path. but close to everything we love to do: hike, bike, etc. Wonderful owners who were very easy to rent from! Loved it! Thank you!

Perfect
We were totally impressed with the cabin. We were there for our anniversary, and took our chocolate lab along with us. We were blown away when we walked in and there was bowls and treats for our "fur baby". We have stayed in a few pet friendly cabins in the area and we felt like this was the best. The bed was VERY comfortable which is not usually the case with rentals. The cabin was also very clean. I hope to be able to go back when it is warmer to enjoy the outside, although we did thoroughly enjoy the fireplace. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this cabin to my family and friends! I forgot to mention the owners ( or maybe managers) were great to work with!

Relaxing
The property is exactly as advertised - and perfect for a quiet get-away. The property is easy to get to, particularly in comparison with some properties I've stayed at in the past. It was spotless and very well maintained. I had an excellent experience with Hideaway - from my initial contact with Myra to inquire about the property through the end of my stay. Myra & Rob are very accommodating. They even left charcoal for the grill, plenty of paper towels & TP - even dog bowls & treats for my furball! I highly recommend Hideaway on the Creek - I had a fantastic vacation.

Nature's beauty with a touch of home!
I recently stayed at the "Hideaway on the creek" cabin in Townsend, TN. My stay was just wonderful! It was like being amidst nature's beauty with a touch of home. The cabin was clean and had lovely furnishings. One of my favorite features was being able to sit on the porch and hear the water trickling in the nearby creek. Another incentive is the National Park, several restaurants and grocery shopping is only a few miles away. I really am looking forward to my next stay there!

Secluded and Convenient!
This is a great rental if you want to be close to the National Park (Townsend entrance), want a lovely setting, and convenience. I especially loved the front porch where I could relax, listen to the creek below, and look out on the woods across the street. Access is simple; flat, easy road off the main road - but far enough back to be away from any street noise. Inside the place is well appointment and very comfortable. Townsend is a really nice location with nice restaurants (especially Miss Lily's Café), Heritage Center, Visitor's Center, great hiking, Tremont Institute, and of course Cades Cove. I hope to stay here again and will recommend it to friends.

Home Away for Home!!
This weekend away was truly a pleasant and peaceful experience in many aspects. While staying in this cabin away from home it provided the luxuries of being at home with its convenient kitchen accommodations equipped with any appliance that you could possibly need to make a wonderful meal. Every room was immaculately clean and the bathroom was extremely cozy with even Soma towels provided. I have stayed in many big hotels and suites on vacations or for work and this cabin was more comfortable than many of those. Also, the extra touch of the wonderful mattress to sleep on only added to beautiful and refreshing experience I had at this location. I absolutely loved my weekend and look forward to another one just like it!

The PERFECT Hideaway
The cabin is immaculate, very comfortable and secluded- but yet just minutes away from local area attractions. I cannot remember the last time I felt completely relaxed on a quick getaway. This will definitely be my home away from home for future getaways.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How accessible is the cabin from Hwy 321 and Townsend attractions?
A: Hideaway is located only 3.5 miles from the National Park and within 5 miles of most Townsend attractions. The road, although narrow, is relatively level - not at all like the steep, windy roads that lead to many area cabins. The driveway has a gentle slope. All in all, Hideaway on the Creek is easy to get to and from.
Q: How secluded is Hideaway on the Creek?
A: Although it is near the road, it's a quiet, country lane with very little traffic, and it is near the end of the road. There is nothing but creek, trees, and vegetation behind and on the left side of the cabin. There are other cabins on the right side (vacant) and across the road and up a hill. Most of the year, you cannot even see these other cabins. Many of our guests have commented in reviews about how quiet, secluded, and peaceful the Hideaway setting is.
Q: Can I fish in the creek?
A: Hideaway's creek is a small one, about 3 to 6 ft wide, so fishing is better in the Little River, one mile away. But it's the perfect size for creating the peaceful babbling sound that soothes the mind and soul. Open the windows, sit on the covered front porch, dine on the side deck, or lie in the hammock...the serene sound will make you forget the bustling outside world.
