a small scenic village located near the resort towns of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. Featuring two deluxe air conditioned master bedroom suites, Casa de Oro is considered by many to be the most beautiful beachfront vacation villa in Troncones. Located 100 yards from the beach, this private, gated villa has panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Sierra Madre Mountains, endless beaches, and overlooks a lush natural lagoon which is home to many exotic birds and wildlife. Exquisite ocean views from every room of the villa, including the showers! This beautifully designed home comes complete with a custom tiled infinity pool and rooftop palapa lounge, perfect for enjoying the exquisite sunrises and sunsets.
The best rock-free swimming and body-surfing beaches in Troncones are located in front of Casa de Oro. Also enjoy world-class surfing, tide pools, and the rich marine life of Troncones, Mexico. Three bogie and skim boards are available on-site. After a day of enjoying the natural beauty and warm ocean waters, retreat to Casa De Oro Villa and relax on the spacious secluded patio perfect for private sunbathing, or swim in the inviting infinity pool. Spend romantic tropical evenings in the large palapa-covered living room/dining room area steps away from the beautifully lit pool, or have cocktails at the rooftop wet bar. With beachfront and mountain views, privacy, beautiful architectural details, and two expansive air conditioned master bedroom suites, Casa De Oro is the luxury rental villa that is truly as perfect as it looks. This is a perfect vacation environment for all ages, including teenagers! No problem for non-spanish speaking guests. It is easy to communicate your needs and desires in most situations.
The major surfing area is called Troncones Point, a steady left break, where Troncones Beach meets Manzanillo Bay just to the north. Waves tend to be smaller in the winter, as the Point needs a southern swell to break well, and it is recommended for confident surfers because it is a rock bottom with some coral. Many hotels offer surfing classes. There is only one surf shop, but several of the hotels have basic equipment for ding repair, waxing, fin replacement, and other emergencies. There is also a professional surfboard shaper in town who offers repair services. There are many breaks and few surfers, especially in the low season of June - October when the swell is from the south and the breaks at Troncones Point and El Rancho can hit 25 feet (7.6 m). Breaks in Troncones tend to be gentler in the "shoulder seasons" of spring and fall, and some spots are better suited to long boarders. Near the beach are two sea caves called Troncones and Majahua as well as a waterfall called Cascadas Artesianas. Sportsfishing trips to the open ocean are available as well.
In 2008, two surfers were attacked and killed by sharks in the waters off Troncones and nearby Zihuatanejo. They were the first fatal shark attacks in these waters in thirty years. Bull sharks gathered in large numbers for unknown reasons. Many have contended the reason were historically cold currents, drawing the sharks much nearer to the shore than usual. Two surfers were killed and a third was injured. The attacks occurred during a three-week period causing a “Jaws-like mania†and the construction of lifeguard towers and the establishment of a shark patrol for the beaches of Zihuatanejo and north. It was a rare phenomenon that subsided after the sharks dispersed.

"would be perfect ... IF ..."
January 20, 2009
Over-all, we (6 of us) had an excellent time. The main drawback is that Casa de Oro IS NOT "secluded". It's a shame that an increasingly-travelled "mini-highway" runs RIGHT ALONG the south wall of the place. People out noisily on the beach sometimes at midnight, many who don't know better tossing trash everywhere. Imagine the ladies trying to sunbathe on the patio by the pool with TWO DOZEN PLATOONS of Marines trying not to stare, camped within yards of the place. Other than that minor detail, the place is pretty much "as advertised" -- proximity to the beaches, and we enjoyed the rough roads heading south and 'inland' (the runners went 5 km - some south and said the road showed no signs of ending soon). 5 min. walk to "Bistro Roberto" -- not bad, the ambiance one would expect in a "laid-back" town like T-town; with other cafes/restaurants not much further. The two main suites are top-notch. The kitch/dining area is fine. we had an engineer in our bunch who got the sound going
Thank You Rosco. We appreciate your comments and thank you for staying at the villa. The Federalis do camp at the end of the road that leads to the beach certain times of the year to portect the endangered sea tortoise eggs as they are also a delicacy and can be sold for good money by thieves, it is a big deal as Troncones beach hosts many large nests every year. I haven't been down since the road was completed but I know the property is gated, safe and secure.
Thank you again for staying
“We live in Zihuatanejo but love to escape to Troncones . When two friends from California came to visit us my husband and I decided to rent Casa de Oro so that we could hang at the beach. The house is just perfect ! We hardly wanted to leave except for an early morning walk . The days were spent happily under the big open palapa and dipping in the pool. The place is very private with an empty lot to one side and an estuary on the other. You feel safe and secure within the walled compound and have the lovely Jose on hand at all times. We will return!†– Carol L.
“Casa De Oro is a mystical place to visit. The beauty and grand scale of the casa will take your breath away. Retreat, retreat, retreat!†– Molly D.
“Believe me, the photos on the site barely do Casa de Oro justice. Completely enclosed, the casa is a tropical paradise. The compound provided more than enough room for our party of seven to relax, play, swim, cook and dine at our leisure. The ocean is only a few steps away, just beyond a natural lagoon, and the views from the rooftop terrace (there was a daily race to occupy the hammock) are spectacular, the beach in one direction and the jungle in the other.
“But here’s the bonus, something we all enjoyed. We weren’t staying in a resort; we were in Mexico. Casa de Oro is on the edge of the village of Troncones. We were able to walk into town in only minutes, either along the road or along the beach, where you can stop (and we did) for lunch or a beer at one of the ocean side café-bars. The village has a small market, a handful of restaurants, a few small hotels, plus a small community of ex-pats. And if you don’t want to walk into town for supplies, you can have fresh produce and fish delivered to the casa.
It was the best of two worlds: a self-contained tropical paradise with an interesting and very friendly Mexican village right outside. We felt very safe. And we had a ball.†– Boyce Q.
“I spent a week at Casa de Oro and had the time of my life with friends. The view from the deck is gorgeous and the decor of the entire property is first class. A short walk right to the beach made it easy for all of us. The best surprise were the super comfy beds. Checking airfare to make next reservation.†- Jane F.
“We ended every day of our vacation on the beach just out our back door, beverage in hand, cameras at the ready, watching one glorious sunset after another. Up to our knees in warm surf, pelicans wheeling above in a burnt orange sky, then diving for their dinner put a lovely explanation point on another wonderful and oh so relaxing day. Can’t wait to go back.†– Jay S.
“There’s something about a Troncones dawn that makes rising before sunrise, tumbling out of bed, and taking a long stroll along the beach an exercise in tranquility. The beach side cafes are just coming to life to the sounds of surf meeting sand and roosters meeting hens. And it’s all steps beyond Casa de Oro’s back gate. What a treat.†– JK Kadoo
