Description of the Walhalla vacation cabin rental
Sportsman's Paradise! Wonderful Log cabin located on 25 acres, in Walhalla, MI, 15 miles east of Ludington, in the heart of the Manistee National Forest, offers thousands of acres of public land for hunting, dirt biking, ATV, hiking, and snowmobiling. The Big 'O' Cycle and Cross Country Cycle trail is 1/4 mile from cabin and can be accessed from the cabin. The Pere Marquette River, one of Michigan's top producers of rainbow, brown, brook, and steelhead trout, Chinook and Coho salmon is only a mile away. The beautiful Ludington beaches, on the shores of Lake Michigan, are a mere 20 minutes away. Many public boat launches located on Round lake, Long Lake, Big Star Lake and many other local inland lakes for great fishing.
Along with Little River Casino just 30 minutes away. Relax on the peaceful wraparound deck including a covered porch, overlooking Casin Lake. Casin Lake is a very shallow non-swimming lake, with lots of wildlife to watch. On those cold nights, snuggle in with the crackling of the wood stove and enjoy everything this log cabin offers.
We have large bundles of firewood available for $3.00 each at the cabin. Or feel free to bring your own for the woodburner or firepit.

Area Information
Walhalla was originally an Indian Village, located near Long Lake in the heart of the Manistee National Forest, approximately 17 miles east of the town of Ludington. This area is a nature lover's dream. The National Forest, Pere Marquette River and nearby beaches of Lake Michigan combine to offer unlimited recreational possibilities. The Manistee National Forest offers thousands of acres of land for hiking, snowmobiling, hunting, dirt biking and ATV trails. It is the only national forest with an ATV trail system in western Lower Michigan, and connects with an additional 180 miles of "off road vehicle" trails east of Highway 37. Over thirty lakes and three rivers in the area offer salmon, steelhead, rainbow and brown trout fishing. Ludington State Park is located just a short drive from Walhalla and is called "Queen of Michigan's Parks." It features sand dunes and virgin forests, miles of sandy beach, 14 miles of hiking and biking trails and three campgrounds. Fishing charters are also available in Ludington, as well as canoe and kayak rentals, watercraft and boat rentals - even dune buggy rides. Other points of interest include the Big Sable Point Lighthouse and Historic White Pine Village, which is a collection of 21 buildings that depict small-town life in Michigan during the late 1800s and beyond. Walhalla Village is a great place to escape city life and "get away from it all."

The cabin and property were amazing! Everything was clean, in excellent condition and beautifully decorated. The owners have thought of everything down to the paper product and laundry detergent. What a beautiful and peaceful place to relax! Well worth the money if you're looking to get away from the "rat race".

This cabin is a beautiful log construction, decorated with so much attention to detail. Cozy, private and set back from the road, this was exactly what we were looking for. The cabin is clean, and also well stocked. It absolutely exceeded our expectations and we look forward to returning. Jeff was a pleasure to deal with and everything was handled very professionally.

A+ property! This amazing log cabin provided a perfect weekend for a group of friends looking to get away. Located on 25 private acres, it proved to be the perfect place to unwind for outdoor games, hiking, and fireside chats. The cabin was comfortable, clean and well laid out; it had everything one could need. This is our first choice for all future cabin rentals. Thank you for a great stay.

Truly an amazing setting, so tranquil and quiet. We had a great time, will be back next fall.

Jeff has a beautiful cabin in the woods for a very peaceful retreat. We didn't see another person the whole time. The grounds are great to walk and the cabin is wonderfully comfortable. A welcoming fire in the wood burner awaited our arrival along with the snowy forest. We had a very relaxing time. The dogs enjoyed walking the property. We will definitely return. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

The cabin was absolutely perfect for what me and my four friends were looking for. When we arrived the driveway was freshly plowed, there was a fire already burning in the wood burning stove, and everything was so clean and neat. We were looking to have a couple days just to hang out, play cards, watch a movie, and do a little sledding. It was great for all of that. We can't wait to make another trip up there!

Thank you Jeff for a wonderful, relaxing stay in your beautiful cabin! We needed to get away and this was a great place to just relax and kick back. Had everything we needed right there ---all was clean and well maintained. I enjoyed having a dishwasher ---don't have one at home! Jeff had a fire started to welcome us to the cabin. The only "surprise " was having to take our trash with us. -Not a problem for us, but it maybe something nice to know ahead of time. We did go into Ludington to eat at PM Steamers. We like it there but hadn't been there in many years. Good Michigan cherry salad and excellent mushroom ravioli. House Flavors was disappointing (just had ice cream) ---Slooow service and small portions. The Taylor's cabin would be a beautiful place to stay at any time of year! Would definitely like to come back--maybe with our snowshoes!! Thanks again Jeff! Dan, Dawn Bailey & Hershey

Even though the weather wasn't the best, it didn't matter! I can't begin to tell you how much we all look forward to our stay every year. Again, we met so many nice people in the surrounding area and had lots of laughs and made great memories! We will surely be back! We love this place! The girls~~~~~~~

Very clean, and comfortable. A wonderful spot to get away from it all for a few days. We will for sure be back! Thanks!

We were looking for a get away that was away from it all! This certainly offered that and more. A great log cabin that is comfortable and has the comforts of home tucked in the woods with beautiful vistas out onto a wetland and lake. Deer visited every day, flocks of geese rested in the lake every night and saw a heron. Wonderful covered front porch that make even a rainy day perfect. Cozy wood burning stove and fire pit for warming the soul. Our golden retrievers were reluctant to leave! Caught bass in the lake and let the dogs swim a bit. Very easy to get to. Recommend it to anyone that needs to get away from the hustle and bustle. We will make this a regular get away! Great fishing in nearby lakes and Lake michigan.

This cabin is absolutely beautiful and the location is perfect. We had such a great time! The satellite dish had been knocked out by a storm the day of our arrival, but to tell you the truth, we didn't miss t.v. at all. There was so much to look at and just enjoy! We saw deer (even a baby that still had it's spots), all sorts of birds, a porcupine, and just sitting outside on the deck and around the campfire was so relaxing. What a perfect getaway! Plus, if you wanted nightlife, you don't have to go too far for that. We were there during the Blessing of the Bikes, and even got to watch the port-a-potty races! What a riot they were. We had a hard time leaving and plan on going back. This is just about as close to Heaven as it gets! Would highly recommend.

My family just stayed at this wonderful log cabin, and while this was our first time renting a cottage, it by far exceeded our expectations! The cabin was just great. The location, and setting was just what we were looking for. We were able to bring our family dog along, and that was a huge plus for us. THe cabin was very clean and neat, had all the comforts of home, and most of all was very private and quiet. The log cottage atmosphere, with the antique decorating, was a nice change from the hotel/motel places we normally stay at in Ludington. They even had a fire going for us when we arrived. It just set the tone for a great stay. Saw alot of deer, turkeys, eagles, and woodpeckers. I want to thank you for opening up your cottage to us, we are already planning another weekend up in the woods! Thanks again!

I was searching for a "cabin in the woods" for several weeks before I finally came upon this cabin. I am so incredibly thankful to have found such an amazing place for my retreat. When I drove up the driveway I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty and quietness of my surroundings. Then as I drove a little more and arrived at the cabin, I stepped out of the car to look around and literally wept. Your breathe will be taken away at the seclusion, beauty and peace you will feel during your entire stay. I am artist/photographer and writer and needed a place where there wouldn't be any noise except nature, no neighbors, no car noises, I didn't want to see a row of "cabin motels" and be in the middle of a noisy camp like atmosphere. I wanted and needed complete isolation for some therapy work I am doing, and I got exactly what I needed...an overwhelming feeling of peace, calm and joy even amongst the difficult work I was doing. And the art/photo opportunities are ENDLESS!!! I spent a lot of time just exploring in the woods, walking down to the lake, found a wonderful and peaceful spot on the River , loved watching the sunset over the lake Michigan and sitting on the enclosed deck writing and enjoying the view. My 10 days here were life changing. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this cabin, its' surroundings and the very professional way the owner answered my many questions all up until my day of arrival. The owners provided amazing customer service, gave cell numbers in case of emergency, left the cabin in beautiful clean condition (along with a cozy fire which just added to the already peaceful atmosphere as I walked in), and had the cabin stocked with all the necessities. The property is accurately described along with detailed photos, but really if you think the photos are beautiful wait until you are actually there, it will take your breathe away too! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this cabin to anyone, any age, and especially for those art/writers that need peace and quiet to just think and recharge their soul. You will not be disappointed!

Four of us rented this cabin for the first time last May, and could hardly wait to go again this year, even though the weather forecast did not look promising. They were wrong! For most of our stay, the weather was perfect (it was in the 80's for 2 days), and even when it did rain, it was mostly just a drizzle. The cabin is so wonderful we wouldn't have cared if it did rain the whole time! There is so much wildlife to see and it is so serene and peaceful there, that we have a hard time leaving. Thank you to the Taylor's for letting others experience their cabin, it is perfect! The cabin is clean, and has all the amenities of home. We went to several bar/restaurants and found most to be very good, and the people are so friendly! Would highly recommend to family and friends!

We thoroughly enjoyed last weekend at the cabin. The snowy January landscape was beautiful, and exactly what we had hoped for. Inside the cabin was warm and cozy, thanks to the wood burning stove. When we didn’t have a fire going, there were plenty of blankets to wrap ourselves in. The cabin is isolated, but very well equipped. We had everything we needed. Although there is no internet connection, we were pleasantly surprised to find a good cell phone signal there. Basic groceries can be found just a few miles away, along with inexpensive firewood. We felt relaxed and recharged at the end of our stay!

Moved to the east coast from MI 5 years ago and was dying to get away from it all for a few days, get away from people and spend some time enjoying the beauty of winter. Things I miss the most are snow that isn't dirty and occasional multi-day spans where I am not disturbed and able to enjoy nature to its fullest. Our trip to the Taylor's cabin did not disappoint. Stayed for a few days in mid January during quite a snow storm. While it was very cold and 3 feet of snow piled up during the stay, it was warm inside and we had everything we needed. The space was very well-appointed and the kitchen had everything I needed to prepare a pretty elaborate meal one of the days. The access to the property and the parking was kept plowed. There was a major blizzard the night of arrival, and was glad to have rented a 4x4 or would have had a bit of trouble getting in, but it was plowed by the next morning and kept clean throughout the stay. The property is next to a very nice looking lake. Although frozen over, I found myself on the porch even in 0 degree weather for quite some time staring out at the scenery at dawn. Not too far from Ludington if stuff is needed from a Meijer. Also, some local grocers and bars. There is also a really amazing custom woodworking shop called the Wolf's Den off of US-10. Definitely worth a visit. In all, this cabin is HIGHLY recommended for anyone who needs a getaway or a place to stay that's relatively close to the winter sports that are available in the area. I'd love to see the place in the summer.

What a beautiful cabin! The setting is so peaceful, you can't see any other cabins from the yard. The Taylor's have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. Nothing like "roughing" it in style! It was so nice not to have to haul in paper goods. The kitchen is well stocked with essentials as well as some surprises from former guests (we left a half gallon of ice cream in the freezer!). The kids had more than enough to do between all the games and toys available, both inside and out. I don't know who had more fun me, the kids or the grandparents. It was the perfect getaway that accommodated all of our needs and then some! We can't wait to come back!

This is a gorgeous log cabin in the woods, a great place for a weekend getaway. We arrived in a sudden snowstorm and got stuck in the long driveway, Jeff worked hard to get someone out to help us get unstuck, he's a good guy who made it work. After that, it was a beautiful time! Nice kitchen, great wood-burning stove, nicely set-up cabin with everything you need, we definitely recommend it. It was so warm and inviting! The owner has thought of everything! I felt very at home at this cabin. The road to the cabin was plowed, and considering how much snow we got this year, Im sure it was a constant battle to keep the road clear! We had zero problems and no complaints at all! We had a lovely time at the Taylor's cabin. It was clean and comfortable. With the forest setting, I don't like bugs but I didn't see even one inside. I did wish the king bed was a little less firm. The privacy was just what we needed. We were able to walk our dogs off the leash without distrubing any neighbors. We enjoyed the extras like horse shoes, fire pit, hammock and especially the air hockey (I kept beating my husband,he he). We cannot wait to rent again next year!

We really enjoyed our stay! The cabin has absolutely everything you need. We talked about returning for a second visit and we will only have to bring our personal items and food! We want to make coming to this cabin a tradition so we will be back! The property is secluded, full of trees and an open yard. The cabin is very clean and comfortable. Better than the pictures can show! The dock is shared and when we wanted to fish it was being used so we will try that next time. Our dog loved it. She ran everywhere. Ended up with some burs though! She even went in the water! Didn't see much wildlife except for some geese flying over and the sound of the squirrels. No bugs! Can't wait to visit again. Jeff gave great directions so it was very easy to find!

This cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It is set back in the woods with no view of other cabins or homes. It has a view of a lake to the rear of the property and land to walk around a bit. Trails are close by. The cabin is beautiful work of art. The loft has five beds and the first floor bedroom has a large king size bed. The bath and a half is nice too. It is well kept, stocked with everything you need in the kitchen, plus games, music, and puzzles too. There is even a TV for DVD's and we did turn on the Lions game for a bit. Ludington is close by if you need to get to the city. Skating, movies, Meijers, coffee shops and of course Lake Michigan are all a short drive away

Our stay was absolutely perfect. We had a great time walking by the lake and in the woods. We sat around the fire pit on the nice evenings and got cozy near the wood stove during the snowy time. The place had everything we needed. I highly recommend it.

We were pleasantly surprised with all of the amenities at this lovely cabin in the woods. We had a great bonfire, enjoyed cooking out, and played some of the fun games provided inside. Sleeping accommodations were comfortable; and the day-trip into Ludington was an easy drive. Morning coffee on the porch, with the birds singing, was one of my highlights

Everything I imagined. Quiet, warm cozy interior atmosphere. Great home layout and plenty of storage. Everything we forgot to bring was stocked. Jeff helped us out of a couple snags with flying colors. The party store was very handy and other than going there, we chose to hang out at the cabin and property. Washed our little car one afternoon. Just played around the home. We found the TV persnickety but have to admit, we grew up with black and white TV and you didn't POINT to the set to change stations...you got off your butt and turned the knob on the TV itself. (worked a lot better). Ugh. Had a great time and love to go again.

Nice cabin in the woods. Jeff was great to work with. The craftsmanship of the cabin was beautiful. If you are looking for a place to spend quality time with friends/family and unplug from life's daily chaos, this is a great place to visit.

Debbie & I have rented many cabins throughout all parts of Michigan & both of us agree that this one was one of the best. Jeff has this set up to where you never want to leave & the surroundings are as beautiful as the cabin. The cabin is just what we were looking for & we will definately be returning for another visit! Only problem I had was stepping on a yellowjacket with barefeet in the laundry room as you 1st enter the cabin. There was a 1st aid kit that helped & we continued on our way to Ludington for a night out as I limped around. Our little yorkie Tiffy loved running around & we only saw 1 huge hawk/eagle flying around, some deer & a few squirrels. We hope to return in the winter time & just stay @ the cabin the whole time with a roaring fire. Thanks again Jeff for sharing your beautiful property with us!!!!

Our trip was amazing! It was our first time staying in a cabin, and we were so glad we picked this one. We felt so welcomed as soon as we walked in! Everything was perfect! Very clean and cozy. We can not wait to plan our next stay there. The kids talk about going back all the time. We will be making staying at the Taylors cabin a new family tradition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there a security deposit that needs to be paid for our reservation?
A: No. We do not require a security deposit. We do things a little different. We trust our guests to respect the cabin as if it were there own. We expect it to be in as clean or cleaner condition when they check out as when they checked in. Cleaning supplies are all provided. This allows us to not require any additional fees, and allows the guests to be welcomed back at any time!
Q: Is my pet allowed to come with us?
A: Absolutely! Your pet is part of your family, and with the 25 acres, there is a lot of room to walk them. Just ask that you clean up after them and be respectful to the cabin.
