Want to sneak off a little further? You can be at Sea World, Disney World, or Universal Studios in about 2 hours. Watch in awe as Cirque du Soleil performs La Nouba at Disney World. Take a day to go down to Tarpon Springs to watch how the Greek villagers live. If you are an art lover, drive a little further south to the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. There is never a lack of things to do here in the county or close by. The difficult part is deciding which to do first. Don't forget to bring the binoculars.
Being part of the protected Nature Coast, there is no telling what you may be able to witness. Be sure to get a close look at our families of dolphins swimming close by in the morning and back home in the evening. Look around, see how many of nature's creatures fly, scurry, crawl, or swim past you.
Mermaids are waiting to welcome you to have fun while you are at your home away from home.
A playground awaits your children and little ones only a few hundred feet away from the cottage! Keep checking back to find something new! Things are being added so often!

Perfect Family Reunion
I had been looking for a private cottage on the gulf front in order to get our family together for a memorable last reunion before our first child gets married next month. When I came across your cottage, read the description and amenities, I knew I had found the perfect place. Thank you for taking all my phone calls as I worked out the details with family being all over. We had such a good time at your lovely home. It was exactly as described. Thank you, too, for your flexibility allowing us to stay a few hours later than regular check out time. Memories were made that will stay with us for a long time.
What a delight for us to be able to help make this special vacation memorable! As we often remind our guest, it is our hope and dream to be able to have everything you would like available to you to use. We want the Sandcastle in the Sun to be a special page in your heart's scrapbook of memories. We just received the two kayaks we had ordered to add to the amenities available to our guests. They should be ready for use within a week; just waiting on the last few safety requirements for boating and/or kayaking of any kind. We hope you will be able to come back in the future with some of your new extended family and enjoy the kayaks.

Coming Back for Sunsets
Coming from Belfast, Northern Ireland, just loved your dream home on the sand. We did not see very much of the sun (we were lucky enough to hit during Florida's unusual rain every day spell); but, even though, it rained every day, we are hardy souls from across the pond. We loved every minute of our time at the Sandcastle in the Sun. In fact, swimming in the gulf in the rain was one of our favorite things to do. As for your home, it was simply wonderful.... We want to come back to get a photo of a sunset. Love and best wishes from all of us.
Thank you for being any owner's dream guests. Even though the weather was not ideal, (I tried doing a sunshine dance for you) you found the positive things that were still available to enjoy while making rather drippy scrapbook memories of your stay. I was happy to see from the survey you did not run into any problems with using any of the electronics or appliances. We will extend you a special "rainy day" special for your next visit to thank you for making the best of the "Sunshine State's" unusual weather pattern while you were here. Not only will you be able to enjoy the sunsets; but, you will also be able to enjoy the two new kayaks with all safety equipment we just added to our extensive amenities' list.

The Sandcastle in the Sun house and supplies were WONDERFUL! Gary and Becky, you have done an excellent job making your home feel like it is ours. We are from Florida; but, we don't often get to the beach - so, our stay was awesome! Keep doing what you are doing!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings about our Sandcastle in the Sun. It has always been our dream that our guests feel right at home as soon as they walk through the door. We will definitely keep spoiling our guests with all the amenities and extra touches we add to make your vacation a lifelong memory. You will be thrilled to know that the kayaks arrived and will be ready for the next time your travels bring you to our home.
June 8 -15, 2013: LIKE BEING ON A FIELD TRIP!
Becki from Kentucky said:
Thank you so much for sharing your home! We have enjoyed the beach and all the wildlife. I has been like a field trip for the girls. They have loved it here and don't want to leave. We found a nest of turtle eggs on the beach; there were seven. As one of my girls was digging a hole, she found them and covered them back up, of course! It has been wonderful here. On a more personal note, as a mom of four girls, I really appreciate the organization and all the toiletries, cleaning supplies, and toys!! You thought of everything! The kitchen is very well appointed. I cook a lot and didn't want for anything! :)
What a delightful way to put it - like being on a field trip! As we mention, if you are watching, you never know what you will see or find. We are so happy that your family and you were able to relax and enjoy all the amenities the Sandcastle has to offer. I like to make sure that all cooking necessities are available, as well as, full bottles of shampoo, body wash, bar soaps, toothpaste and brushes, all the necessary first aid supplies, cleaning supplies, and other goodies. It is all part of our goal of making your stay easy, relaxing, and memorable, which includes not having to load down luggage with toiletries. Your daughter's note was really sweet. We look forward to having you back soon.
June 16 - 23, 2013...Beautiful Place...A True Retreat
Dawn and family from Nebraska said:
Thank You for a Beautiful stay in your warm and welcoming home! Your kind attention to the details of our needs/likes, gave it all such a personal touch. I enjoyed every unique sunset, walking the beach, watching the countless crabs, swimming with the manatees, enjoying the starry nights, relaxing on the deck...and love how local, private, and tucked away this island is in a true retreat! My favorite take away - the way everyone STOPS (even to pull their cars off the road and get out) to watch the sunsets :); such a beautiful Life Lesson. Slow down, appreciate, and take in all the Blessings God provides all around us! Our children also want us to thank you for allowing them to stay in your lovely home. They thought the gulf was fantastic, loved eating at Willy's in the park, swimming with the manatees, watching the sea animals, and the sunset. They did not want to leave. They loved the toys you had available for them to use while relaxing inside, as well.
Your comments left in our guest book by the children and you are the very reasoning we love to rent our cottage out. There are so many blessings everywhere you look; if you take the time to stop, look around, and take in all that the cottage and beach have to offer. It was so sweet of your children to each leave their own comments and feelings about the Sandcastle in the Sun. We have always been amazed how all of nature - human or animal seem to stop and watch in awe the beautiful creation the Painter will leave on the canvas of the sky to bring to close another day. We look forward to having all of you back again in the future.
Memorial Day Holiday: HEAVENLY VACATION AWAY FROM EVERYTHING
Trudy and Linda from Florida said:
We so needed this vacation away from everything. What a fabulous, well-appointed home. Linda got to ride her bike she brought and walk, walk, walk. I got to metal detect on the beach, in the water, and in the park next door. We enjoyed lunch with a friend from Spring Hill at the Bayport Inn. It was heaven getting to relax on the decks, fall asleep in the hammocks, and see the most incredible sunsets. It was so delightful; we did not want to go anywhere else. We were thrilled getting to see the dolphins swim by on our last morning as we were drinking our coffee on the deck. Thank you for sharing your lovely Sandcastle with us.
What a delight to hear that you were able to catch a view of our dolphin families that swim by. As I mention on the description of the cottage, because we are part of the protected Nature Coast, if you watch carefully, you will be filled with memories of so many different creatures. It is a perfect area for bike riding, walking the beach, metal detecting, and relaxing. Many times we have been in the hammocks reading and the next thing we knew a few hours had gone by because the gulf breeze had lulled us to sleep. It truly is a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate. We look forward to the next time you can visit the Sandcastle in the Sun.
Debbie Ross - North Carolina - May 11-18, 2013
Our stay was amazing. The hospitality was overwhelming. The home is bright, cheerful, clean and well organized. We wanted for nothing because everything was provided. Good food is close by, the park is next door and Willy's is awesome. We did a five mile kayak trip at the Kayak Shack which was lots of fun. To end each day you have the most wonderful view of the sunset......we will be back.

I am glad that you had such a wonderful stay and that our we were able to meet our aim to make your vacation as relaxing and memorable as possible. The Kayak Shack is a favorite of our guests. They treat everyone so special. From some of the photos I saw, you had a trip you will not soon forget. We look forward to having you back as soon as it fits in your schedule. Thank you for becoming part of the Sandcastle in the Sun family.

Date of Stay April 13 - 27, 2013 (14 nights) (New York)
We look back to a most wonderful time at the Sandcastle! Our children (4 & 1) like the beach best. With all the toys provided there was so much to do for them that every day brought something new. We will always remember a series of stunning sunsets that we saw nearly every evening. What a pleasure to observe wildlife from the deck of the house - dolphins, a few pairing pelicans, herons, horseshoe crabs, and one memory - we even discovered two sea turtle nests. On top of that, a short drive to Homosassa and we could see manatees very closely, even from under the water.
We are so delighted that not only did the little ones have a fantastic time; but, that the big kids got to enjoy the stay. As we mention in the description, you will see such rare, stunning sunsets over the gulf at the Sandcastle. We are thrilled that you were watchful enough to catch the vast amount of wildlife we have here. The pictures you emailed were wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to send them. We love to get pictures from our guests to see what they enjoyed and the views they are able to capture. The Sandcastle misses you as much as you miss it. We look forward to having you visit again.

Date of Stay March 21 - April 4, 2013 (14 nights) (Switzerland)
We loved to listen to the concert of all the birds during the early morning hours or in the evening. Also the "work" of the tide was surprising; sometimes up to 65 feet or more? (Depends on the moon!). If you really like to swim, the place is not so good, because the water is not really deep. The kids liked the hammock as much as letting the kite fly in the sky. Thank you for the 2 weeks in your nice "sand-castle."

Caroline, It is wonderful to know that everything you had hoped for at our home on the gulf-front with 100 foot of private beach was fulfilled - a cottage that was safe for your children because the water gets deep gradually during the spring time (unless, as we had talked about, you were staying during the summer months when the water gets deep quickly at high tide) and relaxing for your husband and you. I'm glad that they enjoyed the kites we had for them to play with, along with the all the other outdoor toys, (as well as inside toys and DVDs for rainy days or relaxing inside days), variety of sizes of new flip flops, beach toys, chairs, loungers, and coolers to enjoy the day on your private beach. I am sure you remembered to use plenty of the sunblock for children and sunscreen for adults I always make sure are on hand in the welcome basket along with all the juices, waters, sodas, snacks, cereal, and other goodies. We were so pleased reading what you had written about our Sandcastle in the Sun in our guest book and the various emails, "This cottage is on an exceptional spot...very nice and beautiful! For us, with two kids (4 & 5 years), it was perfect to relax. Everybody could find a quiet place somewhere, to relax, do something, or just eat. (My husband DID cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner!!!) For the first time in our lives, we saw manatees while canoeing on the Weeki Wachee River from (The Kayak Shack - thank you for calling them ahead of time for us; they were so helpful even though our English was not quite perfect being from Europe. They helped us to have the best time). We saw the manatees again at the Homosassa State Park, as you suggested on your site and in your books of things to do that you have available here at the cottage. To top off a great time, to have a playground just around the corner in the park, we felt completely safe letting the children go over by themselves since they just had to walk a little ways on the beach. It was such a positive experience for everybody! :)"

We made it safe & sound and just love your place! The kids were not satisfied until they had spent some time in the hammock ;-) We had another great day. Only this time it was at SeaWorld. The killer whales and dolphins were amazing! Would it be possible to rent the house for another two nights? That way we can relax a few more days on the beach. Many thanks! We are very happy we can finish our holiday over here. Even more given the nice weather of this weekend. We really enjoyed our stay. The weather could have been a tiny bit better, but in The Nederlands it froze 10 degrees in the night. So we are not complaining at all ;-) The kids had a great time. When we asked them yesterday what they liked best, (the oldest) answered the fact that the toilet is so soft to sit on... ;-) You just never know what to expect with kids! The youngest got upset, because he wants to stay here. And does not understand that - we cannot afford... ;-) Yesterday was the last day of our holiday and that is why the kids were allowed to be "boss for a day". They decided that they wanted to go to the Bayport Inn.

Thanks for being part of the Sandcastle in the Sun family. You have made us feel so good knowing the fun you have had, just as our children did.

Date of Stay February 21- 28, 2013 (7 nights) (Virginia)
We enjoyed our stay at the property. We did not realize the beach on Pine Island was as small as it is, but actually, we did enjoy the privacy and quiet it provided. The residents and visitors we met were all gracious and helpful. The water was so calm and clear that children can easily enjoy the gulf. The cottage owners provided extra amenities that were quite helpful (snacks, breakfast items and coffee, toothpaste, hairdryers, etc. The place was clean, wonderful linens, and the outdoor decking was wonderful. Our only difficulty was with the outdoor lighting which we couldn't quite figure out how to turn off and the lack of shades in the second bedroom that would block the light. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and hope to return at another time. We only wish we had had our granddaughter with us as she would have loved exploring the water. Oh, do not miss doing a kayak trip on the Weeki Wachee River; it was such fun, particularly as two manatees swam alongside our kayak part of the way. We would recommend the property for a relaxing and quiet vacation. We were sad to leave at the end of our stay and wished we had more time.

We are delighted to have been able to provide you with a quiet, peaceful, relaxing vacation. As we mention in our description, it is our aim to make your visit to the “Sandcastle in the Sun†a relaxing, memorable one. We encourage all our guests to rent a kayak and take a trip down the Weeki Wachee River where you will, usually, see some manatees just waiting for friendly kayakers. If we had kayaks here on the gulf water, you would miss that memorable experience of having these gentle giants travel down the river with you. We put in room darkening, thermal curtains along with the sheers which can be closed at night. Guests staying in the second bedroom can choose whether to wake to the gulf lapping up in the morning or sleep in later with the room being dark. We have added a label by the switch for the security lights. We look forward to you returning in the future and definitely bring your granddaughter. As we show in our amenities, we have many things available to make a vacation with infants, toddlers, children, and teens enjoyable. We just need to know ahead of time the ages of the children, so we know what to put into place. It is hard to leave the Sandcastle after being here a few days; it is hard to find a place where you can relax so completely and enjoy the peaceful way of life that our wildlife visitors experience daily. Thanks for sharing your “Sandcastle in the Sun†vacation with all of us.

We wanted something off the beaten path, private and on the beach. This home was perfect. Sunsets are amazing. Even a rainy day is beautiful. We were able to experience sunsets, moonsets and storms rolling across the ocean from the deck and from every room in the home. Living room, bedrooms, kitchen all have a great view. The cottage is very comfortable and clean. We felt right at home. Just a few highlights of our stay include walking our private beach, kayaking down the Weeki Wachee River at Weeki Wachee Springs, watching abundant wildlife and, of course, the food at Bayport Inn and Willie's. The card and flowers that greeted us as we walked in is a perfect example of the thoughtfulness of the owners, Becky and Gary. They even provided cereal, milk and snacks. Everything you could possibly need was provided, including sun screen. My husband and I loved our time at Sandcastle in the Sun.
