Because we book almost a year in advance, we end up with some great weeks that get cancelled and my wife and I pass the lower booked rate on to you. The discounts can be as much as $1200.00 OFF per week.
We realize that a few cancelled weeks are late season in October, but the Cape is quite comfortable with day temps in the upper 60s to upper 70s and nights in the low 50s to mid 60s. If you brave the bay water, it is actually reasonably warm and quite a bit warmer than the Maine ocean in the dog days of summer and because it stays warm from all the summer heating, it is comfortable to swim...you only get a chill when you get out of the water. As owners, we take the 3rd week in October for our vacation and we chose that week because it is a wonderful time of year to go on holiday and enjoy the area without people, traffic, and congestion.

Please Note: Our rates for a 3 Bedroom on Lt. Islands second island, the island that is the most remote and surrounded by white sand private beaches is low compared to other properties on the island. So when you can combine the lower than average rent with a cancellation discount, the rent is a wonderful bargain to take advantage of. Please read our description, our home is our second home and not some Cape Cod cash cottage making us money. In fact, in the past five years we have only increased our rent $100 (in 2010) that is less than the increase we realized from insurance and taxes. We really try to keep our home affordable for a family to enjoy.

We welcome you to our family home we call the "Island Escape" on Lt. Island, Wellfleet. This home was fully decorated and renovated with new appliances, furniture, linens, during 2009. We hope that you can see from the recent photos taken what a special property this is to enjoy your vacation.
Our Island Escape is a modern 3 bedroom year-round home built in the 1976. It is meticulously clean, with complete quality linens, household items, 52'' HDTV with 250 satellite channels plus free movie channels, DVD, CD AM/FM Stereo, telephone with unlimited long distance, gas BBQ and even an outdoor shower when you come home from a swim. We want your stay with us to be comfortable and relaxing so with that in mind, we equipped our home with all the modern conveniences you would have in your own home. We purchased our home on several smaller lots so when combined we have an exceptional amount of privacy and plenty of shade from the island's numerous pine trees and oak.
First floor living, including master bedroom, full bath, living room, dining room, and kitchen with open level floor plan and easy access rear deck complete with gas bbq grill.
We deliver the property spotless and all we ask is that at the end of your vacation, you return the house in the same condition, spotless. We ask that you respect the other vacationers that arrive following your stay. We do not operate a hotel with maid service. From our experience, we have found that most cleaning services do a slip shod job that does not meet our expectations. That is why we simply make sure at the start of your vacation everything is spotless and clean. My wife does the inventory and any necessary cleaning. You rent a home that does not feel like a rental cottage, but a private residence.
For even more privacy, our home is located on the second island, which is much more private, secluded and further out than homes located on the first island. Lt. Island is very special in that it is a giant wildlife sanctuary with lots of wildlife, walking trails, and is surrounded by uncrowded private beaches. Lt. Island has approximately 60 private homes, 1800 + acres of undeveloped marsh with the remaining land owned by Massachusetts Audubon and Wellfleet Conservation Trust. Should you vacation here, this will become one of those memorable vacations that stand out from the year after year typical house rentals. This is an adventure, yet close and convenient for family access.
Our Island Escape is readily accessible during non high tide via the Lt. Island access bridge. Each day high tide visits twice at different times that one can look up on a tide chart. Approximately 1 hour before and after high tide, Lt. Island Road becomes covered with water that prevents access to the islands. It is most unusual that high tide would interfere with access on and off the island. To us islanders, it is more of an inconvenience with some easy planning. In other words, if the road is covered, go down the street grab an ice cream and when you get back, the road will be as clear as if there was never any water at all.
The tidal access together with the vast unpaved roads, serve to keep Lt. Island very secluded and free from traffic, preserving its tranquil setting. With that said, it is very convenient and you are never more than a quick 15 minute drive to the village with shops, restaurants, art galleries and even a drive-in theater that plays first run new releases!
Of course, the Island Escape can be your jumping off point to many well known beaches of the Cape Cod National Seashore including Nauset, Marconi, and Race Point. Within just 30 minutes you can be in Provincetown (P-Town) and enjoy great shopping, food, and drink. There are numerous bike and walking trails and at the house we have provided several local guide books for your use in planning day trips.

Stayed this summer still have not received deposit even though it was due early September. Owner contacted us telling us it would be in the mail ...it's been another 2 months. Warning! Please check out Trip Advisor thread "Avoid property rented by Robert and Linda Carye " aka. Cayre or Chancler. There 131 postings!!!! Please do the due diligence we did not before renting!

The cottage was fine except there is no closet in the master bedroom as the closet has been replaced with a washer/dryer. There were little things that needed fixing and we left a list of those for the owner. The cottage has no view, so if you want a view, this is not the place. Island was interesting for walking. The main problem is that we have not yet received our $500 security deposit back after we upheld our end of the bargain and cleaned the place thoroughly before we left. After the 60 days for the deposit return expired, we inquired from the owner about the deposit, and were promised the refund within two to four weeks but have still not received it. This week I emailed the owners again and received no reply. It is now over three months and we are still waiting for our security deposit refund.

My husband, two kids, our two dogs and I left for our vacation week. I wasn't sure what to expect, the owners had told us that the location was very private and the beach was just a few minutes walk from the house. Our last Cape vacation turned out to be somewhat of a nightmare. The "short walk" to the beach had to be done in a car. After packing the kids and the dogs in the car and driving to the beach, I had to turn around and bring the dogs back to the house, ( Dogs aren't allowed at the beaches as I found out). Upon our arrival, we were more than delighted ! Everyday we had a beautiful bay all to ourselves, oh yeah, one couple showed up for about an hour on Tuesday. It truly is just a few minutes walk from the house and I even took my dogs. They had a vacation, too! The house is really clean and well stocked. It had everything we could possibly use, those little forks you use when eating lobsters, even dryer sheets and a backup propane tank for the grill. Besides the beautiful beaches on the island, there are numerous walking trails for a good workout. Private beaches verses a parking lot. It's a no brainer. I definately reccommend the house and we plan on returning!

The location of this house was just perfect. Everyday we enjoyed a beautiful private warm bay beach at high tide just a short walk away, and also a Cape Cod National Seashore public beach (Marconi) with great waves just a 10 minute drive away. There were also great places to kayak and fish. The house was small, but clean, well-equipped and comfortable with great beds, showers and a nice big gas grill. We really felt like we rented not just the house, but an island. It would be perfect for young children and dogs; there's plenty of exploring to do. The owners were very accommodating and accessible; we would definitely rent again.

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is....In this case we should have known when we received the Rules List! We were told everything would be provided ie soap, papergoods. Had to purchase our own detergent and then we were informed that we used too much of their detergent. Ants in bathroom, kitchen, inside dishwasher, cabinets. Had to purchase plastic to keep our food. House was dirty, cobwebs had to be removed from the light fixture over kitchen table prior to eating, TV had dust caked on top of it, floor under TV was filthy. Owner kept telling us his wife was a clean freak. Don't think he knows the meaning of the word as we left the house in immaculate condition. Much better than when we arrived. Then, we were accused of damaging coffee table and owner refused to return our $500 deposit. Beware. Owner is neurotic. Table was never used as we covered it to protect our crawling grandchild. We were also accused of using too much toilet paper?? The exhaust fan in bathroom had never been cleaned and was a fire hazzard.The outside grill could not be used as it was rusted and filthy.House more than a few steps from the beach.Expected to remove linens and wash everything prior to leaving as well as cleaning entire home.which included wash/mopfloors,and will be charged $90/hr if owner has to clean. They should have paid me for cleaning. Still have not received refund of deposit even though home was left in immaculate condition. It is now June. Owner is a lawyer and must feel that he can take advantage of people who want to vacation with their families.Instructed to take out trash on Tuesdays. Trash was not picked up.Tile on floors by sliding doors was cracked and a danger to our grand daughter. Curtains in bedroom were horrible as rods were broken and curtains had to be pinned closed for privacy. We were told that cleaning of the house would also take a full day or more at the end of our vacation. Owner has not answered our calls as of this date.We did get to enjoy the beautiful area on Cape Cod with our children. However, had we known the condition of this house prior to signing the lease, we would have picked another home in which to spend our vacation.

The house and location is wonderful for a couple but tis a bit small for a family given that there is only one bathroom which is quite small. The main living/dining/kitchen area is well laid out. An easy 2-3 minute walk to Cape Cod Bay with wonderful views. The only glitch is that there is a concern that the landlord has not returned security deposits in the past and thus my review is only written about the premises. A security deposit of $500 seems to be very high and can be held by the landlord for sixty days. The contract reads Calypso Ventures, LLC so beware the LLC's have certain legal protection that Bill and Linda does not. Write the security deposit and change the landlord name to Bill and Linda Cayre when sending them a copy and keep the original for yourself. They demand the security deposit before they send you the lease. Should the security deposit refund prove not to be a problem, the house and its amenities are OK. Watch out though for the poison ivy to the right side of the drive way. The owners of other properties on the island are friendly, making it an enjoyable place to vacation.
