About the area

There is so much to enjoy here, from a lobster roll at a stop on your way to or from the beach or elsewhere, to very fine dining at Joshua's or Bintliff's. Or go for fun to Billy's for the sports bar with all the windows looking out onto the marshes near the beach. It's a favorite with the locals. Great lobster and an amazing hamburger! There's a lot going on all summer and fall. And if you like decorations and a white Christmas, come on up for that! I love to decorate the place. At that time, it's a share situation: one BR with a queen and twin in it and one BR with just a queen in it. I keep to my room most of the time when I have guests after high season, but am available when not working. Garden will be finished with its harvest Oct.

Getting around

Try the trolley if you want to go to Ogunquit and not fight traffic or parking. If you want a day trip to Boston, take the Downeaster from the Wells Amtrak station. I will show you the back ways to York and Ogunquit and Kennebunk to avoid Highway 1 congestion. I teach an online class so I'm on my computer in the caretaker's unit, but I'd be happy to take a group to the beach and pick you up if you'd like or anywhere else you'd like to go and feel unsure about driving.

Getting here

Most GPSs and Google Maps give you the correct way to go and it avoids the congestion on Route 1. I will leave you a map for back ways and getting to the best beaches, etc.

Interaction with guest

As much or as little as you wish or need. You'll get the pass code to the front door lock when it's arrival time if you text me you're on your way, and my number will be available after your payment has been made. The remote for your parking space in the garage will be inside on the kitchen counter. If you have not returned or I haven't received a rental agreement, there will be one on the counter for you to complete and sign for me. I'm available to fix small things if you wish me to do it and what I can't fix, my handyman lives close by and gets here as soon as he can. Again, I am on the property behind and to the side, way back so that I can't see anything going on unless I'm tending the thing I love: the organic garden, for you also.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

From Ginger in New Jersey: Spent 10 days in early July as a "guest" of Anna in her beautiful vacation house and property. She took me to an outside by the sea dance and sat on the porch in the morning while I had my coffee. We made dinner together in the kitchen one night and ate outside while a fire kept the bugs away. It's a beautiful area from Kennebunk to Portsmouth and this is right in between. The beaches there are mixed. The best with soft sand and good waves is Drakes Island just at the northeast end of Wells. I would recommend this as a GREAT deal and the onsite owner/caretaker as a wonderful helpful person.

From Carli, the traveling nurse from Kentucky: Anna is a kind, thoughtful, helpful hardworking Swedish woman who guarded my rest and sleep as I filled in for nurses on vacation at nearby York Hospital. She took me to have my very first lobsters at Billy's and took me to listen to a fantastic band. We also made one dinner in the kitchen and sat on the breezeway porch to chat and laugh and enjoy. The price for such a large lovely quiet home was so reasonable. I needed the quiet for me to get enough sleep as my shifts had to change according to what the hospital needed. Oh, I almost forgot, Anna taught me how to boogie board!

From Steve: I stayed for two weeks at this place and wanted to help Anna work in her garden and mow and take care of the it all. She really makes sure it looks beautiful and peaceful and is very protective of guests. She also taught me the back ways to navigate south as it gets very crowded from the end of June through Labor Day. You couldn't find a better place at a better rate with a better host than here.
