Heaven on Earth

My husband and I plan to stay at this wonderful home every May. Connie is a pleasure to work with and each year we find new updates to this beautiful home. This year we enjoyed Freeport for the first time and all the great restaurants close by the home. The pictures of the home are all updated and accurate. I would recommend this home in a heartbeat! Once you stay here you will be counting down to your next visit. I know we are.

Amazing Stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Water's Edge Retreat. When we arrived, the cottage was all prepared for our arrival. The cottage is in great shape, nicely decorated and stocked with the necessities. There are great views of the river from the cottage. The location was perfect, secluded (very serene and quiet) and convenient (close to restaurants and sights). There are several great places to eat nearby. Our favorites include, J.R. Maxwell, Beale St BBQ, Sea Dog Brewery, Frosty's Donuts, and Moody's Restaurant. As for sights, we went as far north to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park to down south to Portland. The floating dock was in the water, so we were able to launch our kayaks from the platform and paddle up and down the river. We tried our hand at fishing for stripers at the rivers edge, but were a couple of weeks to early. Damariscotta Lake is nearby and was a great place for freshwater fishing. We were able to meet the owners, Connie and Garth, who are friendly and gracious. They made every effort to make sure our stay met our expectations. In fact, our stay at Water's Edge exceeded our expectations. We certainly highly recommend Water's Edge Retreat. Our only disappointment is that our vacation had to end. We highly recommend.

Very nice place-perfect for three couples

This was our second year to stay here and again we were very impressed. The three bathrooms , four televisions and four fireplaces(which we used on several mornings) make it wonderful for multiple families. Everything that you would need for a weeks stay is included. We were in direct contact with the owner via email at any time if we had any questions or even problems-not to say that we had any problems. The cottage is easily accessible to Hwy 1 and the rest of midcoast Maine including Bath, Freeport, Boothbay, Damariscotta and Rockland/Camden. Hope to come back next year.

Serene Sheepscot Perfection!

My husband and I spent a long Memorial day weekend at Connie's Cottage with my cousin and her family of four. The Sheepscot River was surprisingly serene and quite (especially for a holiday weekend). The house is picture perfect and spotless. The layout is perfect for multiple families to all have their own space. Everything promised in this listing delivers! I've been coming to Maine for 30 years, this location does not disappoint!

Our Home Away from Home

This was our second stay at the cottage and we absolutely love it. It's so central to all the things we like to do in Maine. We'll go paddling in the river with our kayaks, go fishing, hiking, shopping, and of course eating out. Some new things we did this time was to go charter fishing for stripers in the Kennebec River, visit Sebago Lake, and go whale watching from Boothbay Harbor. New to the cottage this time was the addition of kayaks to rent. Connie and Garth have provided a wide selection of kayaks onsite to choose from, single to tandems, sit-in to sit-on, and angler to touring. We rented the angler kayak to go with the two we brought with us, and had just a fun time paddling up and down the river and fishing. Connie and Garth do an excellent job at maintaining the cottage. The house and property are well maintained. The cottage is also well stocked that we don't have to bring anything other than ourselves and food. We so thoroughly enjoy our time at the cottage that we now consider it our home away from home. We can't wait to to return again.

Wonderful spot to take in all that Maine has to offer!

Great location away from all of the activity on RT 1. The house was everything we could ask for. If you needed it, it was there. Beautiful setting overlooking the river, and especially quiet at night. We visited the lobster Co-OP at the end of the road 6 of our 7 nights. Having lived in Bath before, it was so nice to visit all of the places where we spent so much of our early lives. Boothbay Harbor, downtown Brunswick, Lands End (Orr's Island), Camden all within a short drive. The bed was very comfy, the internet was strong, and our dog loved roaming the spacious yard. My only complaint is that I miss the quaint outdoor outfitter that was the only store in Freeport (L.L.Bean). But I digress, there is nothing about this house to keep you from staying here.

Beautiful Retreat

This was my third year at Water's Edge and will be going back for a fourth! You will want for nothing at this beautiful home. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay perfect. We visited Southport Island and feasted on the wharf at Robinson's 4 times in 2 weeks! We had friends visit for a weekend and they had a ball! I love it!

Note from Owners: Above is a sampling of our many 5-star reviews on Travelocity and another Home Away rental site. If you can't locate them just ask and I will send you the link. We have many guests who return year after year. There is a journal at the cottage with comments from our guests over the years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes our vacation rental special and why do our guests return year after year?
A: We like to think (and our guests tell us) it's us! We know how special it is to take a vacation and we will do everything we can to make sure your time at the cottage is everything you want (and more). We have been renting this cottage since 2007 and many guests come back year after year. Want to see reviews- just ask!
Q: Why Westport Island?
A: Our island is in the perfect location in midcoast Maine. It is a quiet island away from the hustle and bustle of the popular tourist area but just a short drive to all the midcoast has to offer. Spend the day sightseeing, at the beach, coastal town, on a whale watch, fine or casual dining and come back to the island to relax in the quiet and serenity. We are proud to say our island has no fast food restaurants, gas stations, or pretty much anything... but you can get to it all just a 10 minute drive off island.
Q: Are linens provided?
A: Yes, we provide new high quality linens including 500 thread count cotton sheets, designer bath towels, beach towels, and more.
Q: What are the terms and conditions of rental (rental agreement)?

Length of Agreement: This term shall begin and end on the dates stated on the booking confirmation. Unless otherwise agreed, check in is after 4:00pm on check-in date and before 9:00am on check-out date.

Occupancy: This property is to be used solely as a private family dwelling by the Guests and is limited to the number of individuals identified in the booking confirmation.

Subletting or Transfer of Agreement: You agree that you will not sublet or transfer this Agreement to anyone else. You further agree that you will be the occupants of the property.

Use of Property: You agree to inspect the property upon arrival and notify Owners or their designated Agent of any problems within 24 hours. Otherwise, you shall be deemed to have accepted this Property as is. You agree that any damage other than normal wear and tear caused during the term of this Agreement shall be repaired at your own expense. You are not authorized to make any repairs or improvements without permission from the Owners or their designated Agent.

There are to be no tents, campers, or recreational vehicles parked on the Property for additional sleeping capacity.
Cancelation Policy: As it is with many vacation property Owners, we rely on the income generated by renting our vacation property and when a rental is canceled, we must contend with lost revenue and the possibility of the unexpected situation of the property not re-renting for the week we had intended for it to be rented by you. Therefore, we cannot refund any advance payment for a canceled reservation unless the property is re-rented for the entire period at the same rental rate and pre-payment has cleared. If the property is re-rented at a reduced rental rate, appropriate pro-rated rental fees will be refunded. We make every effort to rebook the property and are usually successful, however, if the property is not re-booked, you forfeit all monies paid (less damage deposit- this will be refunded in full). Once your reservation is confirmed any cancellations or changes of dates will invoke the cancellation policy. If a cancellation is successfully re-rented, the rental payment including damage deposit and taxes will be refunded. If the total rental fee is not received by the date stated above the Owners reserves the right to cancel the reservation without refund of any monies paid to date unless same rental period is re-rented. You are encouraged to consider purchasing trip/travel cancellation/interruption insurance to protect your vacation investment, as no refunds can be offered unless the period is rebooked or in the event of an event described in the loss of use section.

Damage Deposit: The Damage Deposit, if required, is due with payment. The damage deposit will be returned or an itemized list of expenses will be sent to you within 14 days of checkout/expiration of this Agreement. Should damages exceed the amount of the damage deposit, you are liable for and expected to forward additional funds to cover the excess. If damage deposit is not required, you agree to reimburse Owners for any and all damage to property caused by you or your party.

Late Check-Out: Check-outs past 9:00am will be charged a $35 per hour late check-out fee. The housekeeper may call you the evening prior to check-out to find out the approximate time you plan to vacate the premises, so that she may prepare it for the next Guest.

Cleaning: You are expected to leave the Property in basically the same condition in which you received it, however, a professional housekeeper will do a basic cleaning after you depart (vacuuming, dusting, linens, bathrooms, etc) to prepare for the next Guest. If extraordinary cleaning is required, monies may be deducted from your damage deposit at the Owners’ discretion.

Early Termination: The Owners have the legal right to terminate this Agreement and ask you to leave immediately if any of the terms of this Agreement are violated. In that event, you agree to leave immediately and understand that all monies collected are forfeited. The Owners may take any action necessary to remove Guest(s) if Guest(s) does not voluntarily vacate the premises when requested.

Although the Owners cannot guarantee the operation of appliances and/or equipment, they make every effort to keep the equipment and appliances in working order.
