Description of the Wickford vacation home rental
Walk everywhere. The best of both worlds. Cove Cottage is right in a picturesque Historic New England seaport village, yet in an idyllic waterfront setting. Winner Dazzling Decor award in well-known vacation Traveler Magazine.

Historic Cove Cottage (completely renovated) is literally steps away from Wickford Harbor, cafes, bakeries, restaurants, grocery, gourmet and fish markets, pharmacy, boutiques, art galleries, library, wine merchant. 54 shops! Only 3 1/2 blocks from the beach. At the same time, you are in a tranquil private, nearly one-acre compound surrounded on two sides by salt water, and 'away from it all'.

This Historic Cape started out in the early 1800s as the workshop of generations of the McKenzie family, Boatwrights and merchants. Later, it was used as a carriage house.

In the 1950's it became the studio and gallery of artist Robert Mac Meehan. It was here that the Wickford Art Festival was conceived in 1961.

The home has been newly transformed into a luxurious, charming residence, providing such amenities as central air conditioning and upscale appliances. The residence offers both comfort and charm in a picture-perfect setting, melding modern-day convenience with its historical roots.

Setting: The home is located on a large, landscaped compound, surrounded on two sides by Academy Cove. Just to the East of the property, passing under a small bridge, the cove joins Wickford harbor.

Truly a vacation spot

I'll just list the features that made this a comfortable and satisfying place to be. 1. Location - 3 minute walk to village and harbor; yard is on a small estuary of some charm 2. Amenities - Everything I wanted, including a well-furnished kitchen 3. Very nicely decorated, and clean 4. Quiet, at least at this time of year

I stayed at the Cove Cottage for 4 days in the winter to get away from the city and relax. I found the newly refurbished house charming, decorated in warm colors and all sorts of items from all over the world it felt very comfortable and homey. Linda, the owner went out of her way to make it comfortable and had fruits and snacks for me available even special foods from my country, Germany. Everything is in walking distance from the house, Great vacation spot and easy to get to any place in Rhode Island

Stayed for four heavenly nights in Cove Cottage over Easter of 2008. Were amazed by the beauty and attention to detail in the very fine renovation of this historic cottage. Anything and everything we could need was supplied had we decided to stay for months. The house was immaculate. The antiques and decor detail stunning. The grounds lovely, including the swans that graced the "cove".
Within walking distance of everything in the cute village of Wickford. We walked to Easter services at St.James, founded hundreds of years ago.
Linda and Dave were so gracious, even had snacks, and flowers in the cottage to welcome us. Fresh coffed beans, cereal and fruit for the morning. Guests should be able to climb stairs as both bedrooms are on the second story. A washer and dryer are in the down stairs bath, a nice extra for guest, such as we, from faraway in Texas. The warm fluffy robes provided were spa quality. Shopping in
Wickford can fill hours if you wish. The harbor water front is a block away.
Do stop at the book store,it will take you back to the time before Barnes and Nobel.
We hope to return here soon and recommend it highly. Much prefer the privacy and beauty of this to a B&B. There was a desk with computer connections for your lap top. Were we novelists ,we could picture settling in and writing for weeks.
Enough cannot be said of Linda as a hostess. She was so gracious and charming and tended swiftly to any request or question.

We stayed in Cove Cottage for a week and enjoyed it very much. The owners, who are very nice and accommodating, live next door. The cottage is small but immaculate and very well appointed, with top-of-the line appliances, linens, towels. etc. It is one block off the main drag and the shops and restaurants are all nearby. And the back yard on Academy Cove is peaceful and serene, especially when the swams visit.

We enjoyed a weeks vacation in the charming village of Wickford at beautiful Cove Cottage. The owner, Linda, who lives right next door is a pleasure to know and she will do whatever she can to be sure that your stay is the most enjoyable ever. Most of our weather while there was quite hot and humid. The cottages central air conditioner kept the temperature cool and comfortable inside.

Cove cottage is impeccable, extremely comfortable, attractively decorated and well-appointed with superior appliances, and kitchen necessities. We purchased fresh shrimp, lobsters, steamers, and tuna at the village harbor fish market. Just couldnt get enough! We ate at the table on the stone patio most evenings and enjoyed watching the swans and ducks on Academy Cove. Linda has a vegetable garden and shared her bounty of squash with us which made a nice addition to our dinners. We were also invited to pick the blueberries along her garden fence.

We would recommend this cottage to anyone who appreciates fine things in a rental cottage. This cottage is truly delightful and is exceptionally different from the regular run of the mill rental cottage.

Cant say enough about our vacation and how much we enjoyed Wickford and Cove Cottage. Wonderful memories have been planted in our minds!

We spent one week for our honeymoon at Cove Cottage and could not have asked for a more idyllic setting! The cottage is absolutely gorgeous both on the inside and out. The furnishings are impeccable, yet the cottage has the coziest feel you could ever imagine. And the master bed is comfortable beyond words! The yard is charming, and the perfect place to kick back on a lazy afternoon. We fished in the cove, fed the ducks and geese, and launched kayaks (which Linda and David generously lend guests) just yards from the cottage.
The village of Wickford is reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting, with cute shops and cafes, and great places to grab a bite and watch boats in the harbor. It's serene and peaceful, yet only a short drive from Newport.
Best of all, the hosts Linda and David are so hospitable and accomodating. You will truly feel like guests in their home rather than renters.
We would highly recommend Cove Cottage to anyone! And we plan to be back!

A charming coveside cottage within walking distance to all of Wickford's delightful attractions; antique shops, waterside restaurants, bookstore...and so much more! Beautifully decorated, immaculately kept cottage with a cozy porch, lovely patio, hammock for lazing, kayaks, and even a pair of swans to watch from the adirondacks. Our hosts, Linda & David, live right next door and are delightful, helpful, and accommodating. David even introduced us to his new private billiards' club. We can't wait to return for a lesson!

Cove Cottage is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and outfitted with all modern amenities making for comfortable, easy living. We spent our mornings strolling through Wickford with its historic homes and numerous harbor views and the evenings reclining on Adirondack chairs on the expansive lawn which slopes down to the cove, replete with ducks, swans and geese. The location of Cove Cottage allowed us easy access to other areas of interest in Rhode Island including Newport, Watch Hill, Naragansett, Bristol, Providence---all of which we visited returning each night to our own perfect "cottage." Beginning with the welcome basket of snacks, fruit, coffee and teas to the availability of fresh herbs and vegetables from the garden, Linda, the owner, provided everything we needed to enjoy our stay and we're already planning our return.

We enjoyed every minute we spent in the Cove Cottage. It was a perfect little place that was beautifully restored and cared for by the owner. Linda had every thing you might possibly need handy and ready for our use. There was a comfy bed and even an extra one if necessary. The view and setting were just amazing and the town of Wickford was absolutely charming. We have enjoyed many accommodations provided by individual owners across the USA but I can't think of any place we've stayed that topped this great cottage.

Location, Location and Perfection is what Cove Cottage is all about.
The integrity of this 200 year old cottage has been lovingly restored & maintained down to the Dutch door, the Barn door and amazingly the old wavy window panes. The inside is Immaculate cozy by the new pellet stove, yet so tastefully mixing the modern in.
One house from Main Street and all the shops, restaurants, the pier. The courtyard and backyard breathtaking - everything could not have been any more of what we were looking for.
We were lucky for perfect weather and being 20 minutes from Newport was ideal. All this with the perfect hosts -including Tyler. Thank You so much for the wonderful time & memories. We look forward to returning.

What a memorable stay in such a gorgeous setting! This was our first vacation in a long time and the accommodations were so luxurious and comfortable. We loved all of the personal touches and the location was to die for! We will definitely be coming back.

This getaway was one of the best I've ever experienced. The cottage was exquisitely furnished with antiques and had every amenity imaginable. Wickford is not to be missed on the list of the most quaint seaside small towns in New England.

In a few short days, I went sailing 3 times, enjoyed tennis at Newport, dined on exceptional seafood, shopped for local art and crafts, and walked for hours in one of the most quaint and historic US towns I've ever visited.

Linda's historic cottage is the place to decompress and unwind with a glass of wine by your private cove.

As a hard to please New Yorker who demands the most from every vacation getaway, this one was absolute perfection! I've already booked my next visit.

I stayed in this extraordinary cottage over an extra-long (2007) Labor Day weekend -- and I do not use the word "extraordinary" lightly.

From the outside, the cottage could have been plucked out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The backwater cove that the cottage sits on is rarely without a blue heron or snowy egret. Every morning, I slid a kayak (the house comes with them!) into the still waters, paddled under the town bridge into the harbor, and explored other cattail-lined creeks and coves.

Inside, the cottage has been lovingly restored - and the owner, Linda, has spared nary a detail. The tile work and the subtle shadings of paint on walls and moldings is enough to prompt a sigh of admiration from even the most accomplished home decorator . . . but, beyond that, the cottage is furnished with beloved pieces from Linda's years of international living and travel.

For me, Wickford Village was like a glimpse back into the pages of a favorite childhood storybook - and staying in this cottage was like being inside a page of that storybook.

The house is charming and the decor is just right - lovely, but comfortable. Linda and Dave, the owners, were very helpful. The mattress in the master bedroom was so comfortable that we are thinking of getting one for home. It was refreshing stay in a house where you could walk to everything!

Our favorite was the yard. Although the house is right in the village and on the street, the fence, with the proverbial garden gate, gave us complete privacy. Due to the unseasonably warm weather, we were able to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on the stone patio with the seven foot cranes watching over us. We also launched the kayaks from the backyard and had some great paddles in the harbor and Wickford Cove. It was also wonderful to just sit in the Adirondack chairs and read or day dream.

We recommend:
- walking all around the village and to the beach The people are very friendly.
- steamed lobsters from the only seafood store in town All the seafood was wonderful.
-chocolate bombs from Wickford Gourmet Foods
-lunch at the cafe in the Newport Shipyard
-rocky beaches at Beavertail State Park
-Dave's Fresh Market on RT. 1, lots of prepared foods

In two weeks, we saw most of the state of Rhode Island at a very leisurely pace. Wickford is centrally located and no place was more than 30 minutes away.

It was a great place to visit and we thinking that it may be a great place to live!

My family of 4 stayed in Cove Cottage over Thanksgiving. What a magical place! The cottage was immaculate, tastefully decorated and had EVERYTHING we needed to prepare our holiday meal. Wickford is such a walkable villiage that we parked our car the day we arrived and never got back in it until we were packed to leave four days later. All that you could want and more is within steps of your door. The owners are friendly and helpful. They thought of everything and made us feel at home. They even promised us a sail on the bay so we will definitely return. We would recommend Cove Cottage to our friends and family with total confidence.

4 Splendid days in Wickford

John & Chris near London, UK. Review Submitted: December 10, 2007 Date of Stay: October 2007

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The cottage was charming, and just steps away from Wickfords main street.

We came from old England, UK to New England but found a life style we haven't had at home for a long time: a quaint, picturesque and quiet town, courteous driving, a leisurely pace of life, friendly locals, and lots of community events.

The cottage was well equipped, especially the kitchen and we found so much good food from Lobsters (from the hut by the harbour, they will cook them for you if you want) to food from round the world from Dave's supermarket. Opportunities for eating out in the evening were limited to one restaurant and one take-away.

We walked and used the cycles provided for local exploration,
The owners were very helpful, Linda had lots of useful local information.
