Description from owner

The Hawks Nest Log Cabin was hand-built by our uncle and cousin from ceder trees on the lot about 35 years ago.The cabin is small, but cozy and comfortable. It's perfect for 2 or 3, but will accommodate up to 4. Both bedrooms and the bathroom are located upstairs. It is located on Tims Ford Lake in middle Tennessee, just outside the town of Winchester. It sits at the edge of the lake, surrounded by 4 wooded acres, with its own dock in a private and quiet residential area. There is an outdoor fire pit for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. There's a nice deck with a porch swing, and another swing down by the lake. You'll find picnic tables and both a gas and charcoal grill for your convenience. There is plenty of shade and it's very peaceful. There are games and rainy day activities for children, as well as an outdoor swing set and sandbox. Basic cable TV is available, as well as a DVD/VCR with a small library of movies. No smoking is allowed inside the cabin.

Beds: 1 Queen Bed, 1 Double Bed

We loved our stay at this log cabin. The owners thought of everything! It has pots, pans, plates, bowls, it was like a home away from home. The fishing there was great. We loved swimming in the lake. And it was very secluded feeling. Very quiet and peaceful.!! I would recomend this to anyone who wants a nice country retreat away from the city!!

Owner's reply: Thank you Brittany. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your weekend in Tennessee.

“Hawks Nest is the place to be”

Had a wonderful, relaxing and restful 3 days. Was able to pull up to the private dock with the pontoon boat. A bit of a incline but totally manageable with path in place. The cabin itself was rustic, charming and most comfortable. Safety and privacy were important factors for us gals and HN fit the bill perfectly.

Owner's reply: I'm so happy to hear that you sisters had a great weekend at the cabin! It is a great place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. I hope you will come back again when you need another weekend of R&R.

I think it has been 7 years that my wife and I have been coming to Hawks Nest to celebrate our anniversary. Hawks Nest has been our anniversary gift to each other as when we go we stay for at least 9 to 10 days at a time. Hawks Nest has been and is and always will be a destination for us! If you want to feel close to what life is truly meant to be then you must come to Hawks Nest! Just not when we plan to be there! The floating dock that the owners added makes easy docking for our boat. The bass club just down the road always has many fishermen up and down Elks river. The cove the dock is located in never has rough water. And yes Zoey has always been a part of our vacation. For those who don't know Zoey a dog, well she lives on the other side of the cove and will swim across to pay you a visit. Nothing to fear from her for sure, just another gift from our Lord who keeps you covered in shade until you decide to walk down to the dock and get in the sun. My thanks to the Dilsaver's! We will be back again!

Owner's reply: Thanks Jeff. You and Kim have become like old friends, even though we've never met in person! We're lucky to have such wonderful people come to the cabin, who love it as much as we do. We'll always keep your usual dates open for you! See you next year! :)

“Home away from home”

This is the perfect place to stay at if you will be visiting the Winchester area. It is a very peaceful area with a nice view of the lake. Staying here worked for us as well because it was not to far from the things we wanted to see while visiting such as the Jack Daniels distillery. Another added bonus is that everything you could need while on vacation was offered for us. They have a very nice set up here you almost forget you're not at home. The beds are very comfortable, and they have a great collection of movies to watch or find something on tv if the weather is bad. While there we got a visit from a neighbors dog named Zoey who is super friendly and we enjoyed her company. Most of our time there was spent enjoying the firepit at nighttime and just taking in the peaceful environment. When it was time for our trip to come to an end none of us wanted to leave. Highly recommend staying here since we cannot wait to return for another stay here.

Owner's reply: We're really glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. It's a great place to relax and rejuvenate, and we hope you will be able to come back again soon! Zoey loves to swim across the lake and keep our guests and us company. She's a sweet dog! It's nice to hear that other people consider it a home away from home, just as we do!

“A perfect weekend”

Tam and I loved your cabin and its quaint location. Being a carpenter, Tam spent a great deal of time looking at the construction of the tiny house and dreaming of building a tiny house for us to live in. We were amazed by how many small details were thought of by the owners to make life sweet while we were on vacation – labeled kitchen drawers, directions to local eateries and Walmart, charcoal and lighter and more. The view of the lake and the dock, plus all the outdoor seating (sliders, adirondack chairs, porch swing) were awesome! Many, many thanks for sharing Hawks Nest Cabin with us!

Owner's reply: We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your weekend! We hope you will return to spend another quiet weekend enjoying our little lakeside retreat.

“Amazing Cozy Cabin”

You will not go wrong choosing this cabin for your vacation or romantic getaway. This secluded cabin on a lake is perfect for a quiet retreat. The cabin was complete with every item that would be found in your home. We enjoyed the fire pit in the cool Tennessee night. You are close to Nashville and Chattanooga as well as local attractions like the Jack Daniels distillary. We can't wait to come back as soon as possible.

Owner's reply: I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We try to think of everything you might need. I remember what a pain it was the first time we rented a cabin, and there was nothing there! You shouldn't have to worry about bringing all those little everyday items on a vacation -- It's meant for you to just relax and enjoy! Happy holidays to you, and I hope you can return again soon.

“Hidden Treasure”

This property is a hidden treasure. My husband and I enjoyed the cabin and its grounds. There is a big difference in staying in a hotel and staying here. There was every family convenience imaginable. The property is well maintained and truly a work of art and love. Directions to the property and all that was available at the property was well documented. Very pleasing to stay here and will do it again!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words, Kim. We try to keep things in good condition, which isn't always easy when you live 550 miles away! We have a great caretaker, which really helps. I hope you will return again to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet at the cabin.

Oh how we enjoyed our short stay at this little gem. Only wished it had been available so we could have stayed longer. Has everything one could possibly need and more. The beds were comfortable and setting picturesque. Hope we can return another time.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the good words, Nancy! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in our little cabin. The trees are so pretty along the lake this time of year. I hope you will return next year!

“Cabin with character”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2015

We had an awesome stay in this little cabin. It has character and is exactly as pictured and we loved it. Mary goes above and beyond to make sure everything you need is there. It was so quiet and peaceful. We loved all the trees and the lake. We will definitely rent it again. So close to town and yet out in the country. The bed was very very comfortable. The best vacation we have ever had. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us Mary.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words, Fern. I'm so happy to hear you had a great vacation! I'm always glad to hear that others enjoy the cabin as much as we do. You're welcome to come back any time you need to relax and refresh yourself in our little cabin in the woods by the lake.

“Pleasant Stay in Winchester”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2015

I booked Hawk Nest cabin for a weekend getaway with my husband to visit the Jack Daniel's Distillery in nearby Lynchburg. The cabin was easy to find, and Mary communicated procedures efficiently and effectively. The cabin is on a beautiful lake, and very peaceful. Rooms were clean, and comfortable. Linens were provided, and the kitchen was filled with all cooking/baking supplies. The cabin also has a television with cable. As an avid college football fan, I was pleased to be able to watch "my game" after our visit to the distillery. Mary allowed us to bring our dog, Simon, who thoroughly enjoyed walking around the area while we were not visiting. The cabin is great for a couple, or a small family. There is plenty to do around the cabin, including toys and games for kids (and adults). While in a peaceful setting, the cabin is a short drive from town where there is a Walmart, and several restaurants and gas stations. I would most definitely book this cabin again if staying in the area. Mary was a pleasure to communicate with, and the accommodations were definitely worth visiting again.

Owner's reply: Thank you Morgan, for the great review. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay, and that everything worked out with Simon. It was great to have a fellow BGSU alumni as a guest in our cabin! I hope you will come back again for another stay!
